Marvel’s Spider-Man: Across the Multiverse

Chapter 67: Chapter 66: Into the Trap

Wanda eagerly voiced her request: to have Wakanda help remove the Mind Stone from Vision's forehead.

Black Panther led them to the research department and introduced them to his sister, Princess Shuri of Wakanda (another translation might call her Suri, but that feels a bit odd).

Princess Shuri not only held a noble title but also possessed a brilliant mind. Despite her young age, her genuine skills and expertise had earned her the leadership of Wakanda's research division.

The Quinjet that Peter and his companions traveled in was designed under her direction.

Peter also knew that, according to the original storyline, in a few years, Black Panther would pass away, and it would be Shuri who would inherit his role as the new protector of Wakanda.

She would be known as the Female Black Panther!

However, compared to the slim figure portrayed in the movie, this version of Princess Shuri appeared far more appealing.

Her figure was slender but not frail—just not overly voluptuous—and her facial features were much more refined. After all, with a brother as handsome as T'Challa, it was clear the royal family's genes were exceptional.

If this version of Princess Shuri had taken up the mantle in Black Panther 2, perhaps the movie wouldn't have faced so much criticism.

At this moment, Vision and the others were already conversing with Princess Shuri.

Vision lay down on a medical bed.

Shuri scanned Vision's body from head to toe with the Kimoyo Beads on her wrist, focusing on the Mind Stone embedded in his forehead.

With a flick of her hand, a holographic diagram appeared, centered on the Mind Stone and radiating outward, resembling a complex neural network system.

"This is a polycrystalline polymorphic structure!" she remarked with a hint of amazement. "Your approach is commendable. I can indeed reprogram and simulate this structure, but it will mean losing the mysterious energy contained within the stone."

"We don't need the stone, nor its energy!" Wanda said firmly. To her, Vision's powers were irrelevant; what mattered was Vision himself.

Vision turned to Shuri and said, "Please proceed. I wish to have this stone removed."

Shuri nodded. "Understood. However, I will need to simulate and reprogram the two trillion neural connections within this structure. It will take considerable time."

"How long will it take?" Wanda asked anxiously.

Captain America gently patted her shoulder, signaling her to remain calm.

Wanda took a deep breath, steadying herself. "Sorry, I overreacted."

"It's alright," Shuri reassured her with a smile. "I can't say for sure how long it will take. The precision required for this operation is incredibly high—any slight error could cause a complete breakdown of Vision's neural system."

Wanda nodded and looked at Vision.

Vision gave her a reassuring glance.

He then turned back to Shuri. "Princess, I entrust this task to you."

Shuri replied, "I'll make the necessary preparations. Let's begin immediately."

After arranging Vision's procedure, the group left the medical wing of the research center.

They discussed their next steps and preparations.

Black Panther had already issued a summoning order to all the tribes of Wakanda. This meant that, in addition to Wakanda's standing army and royal guards, they could muster nearly ten thousand warriors from the tribes.

While the numbers might seem small, considering that each warrior was equipped with Vibranium weaponry, this army could easily outmatch the entirety of Earth's civilizations.

Each warrior's standard gear included a Vibranium cloak that generated an energy shield for protection and a Vibranium spear that could fire energy blasts while being nearly indestructible.

Even Captain America couldn't help but tear up at the sheer disparity of wealth.

However, everyone present was polite and mindful of Wakandan customs. Knowing that Vibranium was forbidden from leaving Wakanda, no one dared to ask for a purchase or even a small token.

Aside from Iron Man and Nick Fury.

Iron Man had been tirelessly upgrading his armor but was constrained by the lack of better materials.

When he encountered Vibranium, it was like a hunter finding prey.

If he could create a Vibranium suit, his power would undergo a transformative leap.

Nick Fury, being the seasoned spy he was, had only one thought upon seeing such an extraordinary material—how to get his hands on it.

However, given the current dire situation, even he dared not entertain any inappropriate ideas.

The second suggestion came from Captain America.

He proposed a bold strategy: since Thanos would inevitably send his Black Order to seize the Infinity Stones in their possession, could they turn the tables and set a trap using the Stones?

Vision was out of the question, as he couldn't move, and with Wakanda hosting a plethora of skilled fighters and advanced technology capable of shielding them from external detection, Thanos would think twice before making a direct move here.

Therefore, the plan required one or more individuals to take the Time Stone and act as bait outside of Wakanda.

When the enemy showed up, the rest of the group would quickly deploy to support them.

By focusing their forces to outnumber the enemy, they could first eliminate a few of Thanos's key generals, weakening his strength.

Even if Thanos remained formidable, losing some of his strongest subordinates would be like a fist without fingers—significantly less effective.

This strategy received unanimous approval.

Earth, after all, was their home turf. With the added advantage of Wakandan technology and the coalition of forces they had gathered, the plan seemed feasible.

However, the question of who would serve as bait sparked differing opinions.

Captain America volunteered to be the bait.

Doctor Strange argued that, with his mastery of the Time Stone's power, he was the most suitable candidate.

Iron Man, confident in his abilities, also believed he could take on the role. Although he joked that playing the bait felt beneath his status as a billionaire—like a rich kid willingly walking into a kidnapper's trap—his pride as a renowned superhero wouldn't let him back down.

Black Panther and Wanda, on the other hand, remained silent.

As Wakanda's king, Black Panther needed to stay in Wakanda. It was likely that even if reinforcements were sent out later, he wouldn't join them.

The same applied to Wanda.

Even though Wakanda had an energy barrier and its people were confident in their defenses, no one could guarantee that Thanos wouldn't have some method to breach it.

With Vision in surgery and utterly defenseless, Wanda felt compelled to stay behind and protect him.

At least this way, even if everyone else was deployed, Wakanda would still have Black Panther and Wanda as a final line of defense, ensuring absolute security.

When the group couldn't reach a consensus, they decided to consult Peter for his opinion.

This left Peter feeling both flattered and a bit nervous.

After a round of discussions, a final decision was made: Captain America, Peter, and Iron Man would form a combat team to act as the bait.

In this group, Captain America would serve as the main tank, Peter would provide support, and Iron Man would focus on dealing damage.

Although Captain America's strength was average compared to non-human combatants, his knack for holding his ground and his talent for turning the odds into even fights made him suitable for stalling the incoming attackers.

Peter, as Spider-Man—and an adult version at that—was far more reliable than the "kid" version of Spider-Man Tony remembered (the one played by Holland). He was clearly up to the task.

Iron Man's capability as a damage dealer needed no explanation. With his versatility in offense, defense, and support, he was almost an all-rounder.

This plan was set to commence officially the next day!
