Marvel’s Spider-Man: Across the Multiverse

Chapter 66: Chapter 65: Welcome to Wakanda

Standing before Peter and the others was a group led by a strikingly handsome Black man.

Dressed in a tailored suit, he exuded an air of politeness without losing his commanding presence.

This was T'Challa, the current King of Wakanda and the Black Panther of his generation.

The title of Black Panther is passed down through generations, serving as both the guardian deity of Wakanda and a mantle taken on by its reigning monarchs.

Each Black Panther gains their abilities by consuming a potion made from Wakanda's native Heart-Shaped Herb, granting them superhuman speed, strength, stamina, reflexes, and senses. In essence, they become genetically enhanced super-soldiers.

In addition to their innate powers, they don a suit made entirely of Vibranium. This rare metal has molecular properties that are nearly immovable, rendering it almost indestructible on a molecular level. Vibranium can absorb heat, energy, and kinetic force.

Captain America's iconic shield, which he treasures dearly and even secretly trained to combo with Mjölnir, is made of Vibranium. Meanwhile, the Black Panther has an entire suit made of the same material—clearly a testament to Wakanda's wealth and resources.

Wakanda holds a massive Vibranium mine, making it not only the technological leader of Earth with its advanced "Vibranium technology" but also an economic powerhouse with unmatched riches.

While Tony Stark is wealthy, even he pales in comparison to T'Challa. For context, a single gram of Vibranium is valued at around $10,000, and Wakanda possesses an entire mountain of it!

Behind T'Challa stood a group of formidable women, all emanating strength and precision. Two of them particularly caught the eye.

The first, a woman with flowing hair, was Nakia. With her striking beauty and fiery physique, she was both T'Challa's lover and bodyguard. Most likely, she would become the future Queen of Wakanda—after all, in this universe, there are no X-Men, and thus no Storm.

On his other side stood a bald woman holding a sleek metallic spear. This was Okoye, the leader of the Dora Milaje, Wakanda's elite all-female royal guard.

Peter couldn't help but feel a strange sense of déjà vu as he looked at her face—it reminded him of Michonne from The Walking Dead (played by the same actress), with her fierce and competent demeanor, though without the hair.

The Dora Milaje serve as both the royal guard and an extension of the king's household. Comprised of elite women sent by Wakanda's various tribes, they represent a blend of wisdom and combat prowess. Their primary allegiance is to the king, but they also serve as political tools, ensuring tribal unity through strategic marriages.

This explains why, in Black Panther, when T'Challa was defeated by Killmonger, the Dora Milaje temporarily switched their loyalty. To them, the king's identity didn't matter as much as their role in maintaining tribal equilibrium.

Okoye, however, stood out among the elite, rising to the rank of captain. Clearly, her skills and methods were unparalleled.

"This is no ordinary woman," Peter concluded internally before quickly shifting his gaze.

Meanwhile, T'Challa had already begun conversing with Iron Man, Captain America, and the others.

"Iron Man, Tony Stark. Captain Steve Rogers. May I ask why nearly all the Avengers have gathered in Wakanda?" T'Challa asked, his tone calm yet layered with subtle sharpness.

His words hinted at his knowledge of the Avengers, carrying an implicit warning for them not to try anything underhanded.

Wakanda's intelligence agency, PRIDE, kept the nation well-informed about global events, giving them unparalleled insight into the world.

"T'Challa, we've come to seek your help," Captain America stepped forward, taking the lead.

Years of collaboration had forged a decent rapport between him and T'Challa.

"Seek my help? Then why have you brought them?" T'Challa asked bluntly, cutting straight to the point.

Two years ago, he fought in a civil war to capture the Winter Soldier. In the time since, he had secretly assisted the underground Avengers on multiple occasions. Now, his outward demeanor appeared indifferent, but in reality, it was merely a way to distance himself publicly.

After all, the situation they were in now was entirely different from before.

As the King of Wakanda, T'Challa had a responsibility to prioritize his nation above all else.

"Here's the situation." Captain America gave a brief explanation of what was happening.

"Thanos? The Infinity War? An interstellar fleet?" T'Challa looked stunned, pausing as though weighing the credibility of the information.

After a moment, he spoke, "Since it's coming from you, I trust it's not baseless. Tell me, what can Wakanda do to help?"

As he spoke, he gestured with his hand.

Behind him, the seemingly endless forest began to shimmer and shift, revealing a massive energy barrier.

This was the shield surrounding Wakanda—a powerful field that not only could withstand the main cannons of interstellar warships but also concealed the nation from the outside world, allowing the illusion that Wakanda was merely a Third World country reliant on agriculture and livestock.

At that moment, a section of the barrier opened. From this vantage point, it became clear the shield did not obstruct their view of what lay within.

The dense jungle beyond the barrier transformed into expansive grasslands, and not far away, a large hovering pickup-truck-like aircraft rested on the ground.

Peter and the others boarded the aircraft, while Falcon piloted the Quinjet into Wakanda. Once inside, the energy shield closed seamlessly behind them.

Looking back, Peter noticed that from inside the barrier, visibility remained unaffected. All that could be seen was a faint glow marking the separation—much like a one-way mirror.

Perhaps T'Challa and his people had already been observing them from behind the barrier before revealing themselves.

Still, it wasn't a big deal.

After all, they were about to use Wakanda as the primary battlefield. As hosts, the Wakandans had every right to be cautious.

In fact, this restraint was a testament to T'Challa's good character. If someone with a more uncooperative disposition had been in his place, they might not have cared whether the Avengers lived or died.

Notably, Captain America and the others hadn't mentioned the critical detail that refusing to participate in this war would spell disaster for Wakanda as well.

The "pickup aircraft" they were aboard looked unconventional, but its speed was impressive. As it flew, a faint glow enveloped the craft, completely shielding the passengers from wind resistance.

This was yet another example of Wakanda's advanced Vibranium-based technology.

From a bird's-eye view, however, something peculiar became apparent. Despite Wakanda's cutting-edge technology—advanced enough to resemble an alien civilization living on Earth—the architecture of its residential areas seemed surprisingly "traditional." The homes didn't match the standards one would expect from a society this advanced, not even comparable to the cities outside the barrier.

Could there be significant wealth disparity within Wakanda?

Of course, this wasn't Peter's concern.

Before long, they flew over the outer regions, crossed a river, and entered Wakanda's capital, Birnin Zana—a city that truly reflected its status as a high-tech civilization.

Dome-shaped structures dotted the skyline, while high-speed magnetic levitation trains zipped past, all showcasing technology far beyond ordinary comprehension.

They didn't have much time to marvel, as the aircraft soon descended gracefully in front of an imposing and magnificent building.

T'Challa was the first to disembark, gesturing invitingly toward his guests.

"Welcome to Wakanda," he said.
