Marvel’s Spider-Man: Across the Multiverse

Chapter 46: Chapter 44: The Ultimate Green Goblin

Taking advantage of the fact that the gunmen behind them had yet to catch up, the group exchanged a few quick words before leaving the area and advancing deeper into the complex.

From Penny's earlier description, they had already imagined that this particle collider would be immense.

However, standing here in person, they finally felt its overwhelming grandeur.

One of the racks near the collider alone stretched hundreds of meters—wide enough for a person to walk along it.

Similar pathways sprawled in all directions, visible as far as the eye could see.

Clearly, these were corridors designed for construction, routine maintenance, and other operational tasks.

And the particle collider itself was even more massive.

Just the exposed nozzle of the collider measured over ten meters in diameter. Further along, the diameter grew larger and larger, until at the far end, it reached a staggering width of over a hundred meters.

This was also the width of the entire underground space!

One could hardly imagine that the people living their daily lives above, in Brooklyn, would ever suspect that beneath their feet lay such a colossal hollowed-out chamber housing a machine powerful enough to destroy the world!

As they approached the collider, they discovered the situation was far worse than they had anticipated.

A torrent of colossal particle beams surged forth, tearing through the surrounding space. Strange phenomena continuously manifested around them.

"All of that is from other parallel worlds!" Penny shouted. "We need to shut this down immediately, or the tears created by the particle streams will cause these parallel worlds to collide, eventually leading to their total annihilation!"

"Dimensional rejection?" Peter yelled, his voice barely carrying over the deafening hum of the collider.

The roaring sounds of the collider reverberated around them.

Due to the spatial distortions, magnetic interference had rendered their communication devices completely useless.

They had no choice but to rely on the most primitive form of communication—shouting.

"No! Quantum collapse!" Penny shouted back.

"Where are Mr. Shadow and Mr. Ham?!" Gwen Spider hollered.

Middle-aged Peter, who had been carefully observing the surroundings, shouted, "There's fighting over there—it must be them! Let's go!"

With that, he launched a webline and swung in the direction of the commotion.

"Alright!"

Peter and the others quickly followed.

However, before they could get far, their spider-sense began blaring warnings.

Buzz, buzz, buzz—

The group immediately scattered mid-air.

The next moment, a hail of bullets rained down on the spot they had just passed.

Gunmen began emerging from pathways and corners below, blocking their way.

"Damn that Kingpin! How many men has he sent after us?" Middle-aged Peter shouted.

"Three hundred? Five hundred? Maybe even a thousand," Gwen Spider replied.

"What do we do? Fight?" Peter asked.

"No, there's no need. All we need to do is find Mr. Shadow and Mr. Ham, cover you while you plant that gadget, and then we're out of here!" Middle-aged Peter said.

"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go. I doubt they're planning to invite us to dinner," Peter said, gesturing to the gunmen closing in from all directions.

"Yeah, more likely they're inviting us to a bullet buffet," Gwen Spider quipped.

The group spread out slightly, keeping about four to five meters apart, and moved in the direction middle-aged Peter had indicated earlier.

The complex environment worked to their advantage, blocking many of their pursuers.

After all, these gunmen didn't have the ability to swing through the air like the spiders did. To chase them, they had no choice but to follow the corridors on foot.

But Kingpin, ever the cunning strategist, clearly had more tricks up his sleeve.

As they rounded a corner, Spider-Mech was suddenly ambushed!

The attacker had been lying in wait, and Spider-Mech was a split second too late to dodge. The glass canopy of the cockpit was melted away in a large section.

Then, a gleaming green mechanical scorpion tail lunged toward the mech with deadly precision.

Whoosh!

Peter darted forward in a blur of motion.

He shot webs from both hands, yanking the mechanical scorpion tail off course with sheer force.

With his intervention, the attacker's figure was finally revealed.

It was Scorpion!

Clearly, using Kingpin's equipment, he had reattached the mechanical scorpion tail that Spider-Ham had ripped off earlier in the afternoon.

"You again, you sneaky bastard!" Middle-aged Peter growled, charging forward and landing a punch.

This treacherous scumbag had ambushed him earlier that afternoon, nearly causing his old injuries to flare up again.

"Do you have any idea how important a back and waist are for a middle-aged man?" Middle-aged Peter yelled, grabbing Scorpion and landing two more punches with a resounding bang, bang.

Scorpion was dumbfounded!

He had only planned to find the right opportunity for a sneak attack and then make a quick escape.

While his ambush was initially somewhat successful, he didn't even have a chance to capitalize on it before being grabbed and pounded by two burly Spider-Men.

"Sp—spider~" Penny's nervous, teary voice reached their ears, prompting Peter and middle-aged Peter to hit Scorpion even harder.

"Think you can bully our genius young lady?!" Peter grabbed one of Scorpion's mechanical legs, snapped it brutally at the joint, and tore it off.

"Hitting a little girl? You're pathetic!" Middle-aged Peter ripped off another mechanical leg and used it to smack Scorpion a few times.

"Alright, alright, he's about to die from the beating," Gwen Spider said, barely able to watch.

In just about 20 seconds, Scorpion's four legs were reduced to one. His newly repaired mechanical scorpion tail was ripped off again by middle-aged Peter. His face was bruised and swollen, his eyes rolled back, and it was clear he was beyond saving.

"Mr. Parker, Brother Peter, let's go. Spider-Mech is fine now," Penny tugged at their sleeves.

Peter panted heavily. "Fine, let's let him off for now. But first, I'll tie him up. Once I get you all out of here, I'll hand him over to the police."

"Okay!" Penny nodded earnestly.

Peter and middle-aged Peter used webbing to tie Scorpion up tightly and stuck him upside-down on a pipe to keep him out of sight from the pursuing gunmen.

After finishing this, they resumed their journey.

When they rounded another corner, they finally spotted Shadow Spider and Spider-Ham.

"It's Mr. Ham! Oh my gosh, who is he fighting? Is that Godzilla?" Penny exclaimed in shock.

Perched atop one of the particle collider's exhaust ports, Spider-Ham was battling a massive creature.

The monster stood about 13 or 14 meters tall, making the already small Spider-Ham look even tinier by comparison. Its body was covered in muscles like granite, and its skin was a dark, murky green.

Most shocking of all, the creature had wings!

"Wait a second, could that be the Green Goblin?!" Peter shouted in surprise.

Although the creature's appearance had changed dramatically, Peter could still make out a faint resemblance to the Green Goblin he remembered.

Plus, Shadow Spider had previously mentioned that this world's Green Goblin was a hulking monster.

But hadn't Shadow Spider also said that Green Goblin had been killed in a fight with Ultimate Spider-Man, caused by the particle collider?

How could he still be alive?!
