Chapter 45: Chapter 45: The Final Battle
"Green Goblin? Norman Osborn?" With Peter's reminder, the middle-aged Spider-Man also recognized the massive Green Goblin in front of them. "That's right, it's him. That long, sharp, shoehorn-shaped face... Oh! And those goblin-like ears! It's definitely the Green Goblin!"
"The Ultimate Universe's Ultimate Green Goblin? Does his physique have to be this ultimate too? No need to be this ridiculously meticulous, right?" Peter quipped.
"Looks pretty ultimate to me," Spider-Gwen agreed wholeheartedly.
"I think we should go help Spider-Ham," Peni suggested.
"No, Spider-Ham's more than capable of handling this. We should focus on figuring out where to put the gizmo," the middle-aged Spider-Man shook his head. "Given the situation, the particle collider is becoming increasingly unstable. Shutting it down should be our top priority!"
Spider-Ham indeed had no trouble dealing with the Ultimate Green Goblin.
Although he appeared small—barely a twentieth the size of the Ultimate Green Goblin—when you reach a certain level of power, being smaller can actually be an advantage.
In a flash, Spider-Ham darted to the Goblin's feet, whistled, and tripped him with a quick leg sweep.
The Ultimate Green Goblin staggered and lost balance.
At that moment, Spider-Ham reached into his pocket and pulled out a small wooden hammer.
Just as the others were wondering what he planned to do, the hammer suddenly transformed into a massive one!
Yes, in the blink of an eye, it grew from a few inches to over ten meters—larger than the Ultimate Green Goblin himself!
Thwack!
The Ultimate Green Goblin was smashed to the ground with a single blow.
Spider-Ham then put away the hammer, whistled, snorted with his pig-like nose, and leaped high into the air, landing butt-first on the Goblin's chest.
"Argh!" The Ultimate Green Goblin let out a howl of pain.
Spider-Ham's carefree, laid-back demeanor made it seem like he was on vacation, not in the middle of a battle.
"By the way, where's Shadow-Spider?" Peter glanced around.
Spider-Ham and Shadow-Spider had infiltrated the area to locate the particle collider's control panel. The gizmo they carried needed to be installed there to work.
However, while they spotted Spider-Ham, Shadow-Spider was nowhere to be seen.
Unbeknownst to them, Shadow-Spider was just across from them, less than a hundred meters away in a straight line.
But the bursts of particle streams obscured their senses.
With Shadow-Spider was another Spider-Man clad in a similar all-black suit—Miles Morales, also known as Little Black Spider.
Their opponent? Doctor Octopus... but this time, Lady Octopus.
"I didn't expect you to show up," Shadow-Spider said as he grabbed one of Lady Octopus's tentacles and hurled her fiercely to the side.
From under his mask came Miles' laughter. "Of course! We're a team, aren't we?"
As he spoke, Miles dashed to where Lady Octopus had landed and swung a punch at her.
But Lady Octopus, recovering quickly, caught him mid-swing and slammed him to the ground.
"How's your uncle doing?" Shadow-Spider asked as he freed Miles from Lady Octopus's mechanical tentacles.
"The surgery ended two hours ago, and an hour ago, he was officially out of danger," Miles replied.
"Wow, that's great news. My Uncle Benjamin... well, he didn't make it back then," Shadow-Spider said while dodging Lady Octopus's relentless attacks.
"I'm sorry, Shadow," Miles said apologetically.
"It's not your fault."
"Where are Peter and Mr. Parker? I want to thank Peter properly. The doctor said if the bullet had been just one centimeter off, my uncle might not have made it," Miles asked.
"They came in from the other side," Shadow-Spider replied. "How about this—you leave this to me, go find them, and deal with that thing in the back first. All those colors are making my eyes hurt. Not that I can tell many apart, but it's still more than I'm used to."
"Alright, be careful," Miles said, leaving the fight.
Lady Octopus, however, wasn't ready to let him go so easily.
But Shadow-Spider went all out, launching lethal attack after attack, forcing Lady Octopus to focus entirely on their fight, leaving her no room to pursue Miles.
Her mind raced with frustration and confusion.
The situation was developing far beyond her expectations.
For tonight's "game," her boss, Kingpin, had mobilized three hundred men from all over New York. Each of them was armed and stationed at key points.
And that was only because time was tight; otherwise, the numbers could've easily been multiplied.
With the absence of Tombstone and the Prowler, Kingpin had even spent a fortune to revive the critically injured Ultimate Green Goblin to add more firepower.
With her, Scorpion, and Ultimate Green Goblin as the heavy hitters, supported by three hundred armed men, everything should have been foolproof.
But against all expectations...
Just minutes ago, reports had come in that both the front and rear defenses had been breached. The central line, which Scorpion was supposed to be guarding, had gone completely silent, with no updates at all.
And on top of that...
Their supposed powerhouse, the Ultimate Green Goblin, was being held at bay by an absurd cartoon pig.
Now she was left to face the intruders alone—just a "weak woman" fighting solo!
Lady Octopus even entertained the thought of giving up.
Fighting to the death wasn't an option.
Her relationship with Kingpin was merely a temporary collaboration, not a strict boss-subordinate dynamic.
Kingpin provided the funding, and she led the research. It was a mutually beneficial arrangement—nothing more, nothing less.
After all, through these experiments, Lady Octopus had already gathered plenty of data from the particle collider, achieving preliminary results. There was no need for her to stubbornly risk everything here.
Once this thought crossed her mind, her attacks noticeably lost their intensity.
On the other side.
Miles Morales leaped into the air, grabbing onto the nozzle of the rotating particle collider with one hand. Using the momentum of the spinning nozzle, he swung upward. Just as he reached the highest point, he propelled himself off and landed on the ceiling.
Now, there was nothing between him and Peter's group.
"Hey! Mr. Parker, Peter, Gwen, Peni!" Miles waved enthusiastically.
"Miles?" Gwen exclaimed in surprise. "What's he doing here?"
The middle-aged Peter Parker let out a small, pleased chuckle. "He's finally here. I knew he wouldn't let us down."
Peter called out loudly, "Did you see Shadow-Spider?"
Miles pointed back behind him. "Shadow-Spider is over there fighting Lady Octopus! He told me to bring you all to deal with this thing!"
As he spoke, he gestured to the particle stream below.
"Looks like everything's going according to plan," the middle-aged Peter said. "Let's split up and handle this."
"Peter, you and Miles will insert the gizmo and reboot the collider."
"Gwen, go help Shadow-Spider take down Lady Octopus. Don't let her block our way home."
"Peni, you and I will go assist Spider-Ham and deal with that big green brute."
"Got it!" x3
The group immediately dispersed.
Peter shot out a web and swung toward Miles.
"Miles, I'm really glad you made it," Peter said as he reached Miles' side.
Miles grinned brightly. "I should be thanking you, Peter. You saved my uncle's life!"
"It was nothing. We're teammates, aren't we?"
"That's right! Let's end this together, teammate!"
