Chapter 118: King T'Chaka
Okoye spoke to the other Dora Milaje guards, after which all of them moved closer to Liam. They surrounded him, forming a formation with him in the middle. While the Dora Milaje guards didn't point their spears directly at him, he was kept a spear-length away from all of them.
Okoye raised her hand in the air and made a hand gesture before slowly lowering her arm again. The moment she did, all the guards started walking at once.
'Very organized and loyal,' Liam thought, paying close attention to their movements.
"Walk, outsider," one of the guards said coldly from behind him, breaking him out of his thoughts.
Liam took a glance behind him before he started walking.
The Dora Milaje guards all maintained the exact same pace, not one of them placing their foot on the ground earlier than another. It didn't take long before everyone except Okoye came to a stop in an open area.
Okoye continued walking a few more feet, reaching into her pocket. From it, she pulled out another metal bead. She raised the bead diagonally to the sky, and a medium-sized airship slowly revealed itself to Liam and the other guards.
'Damn,' Liam thought, looking in amazement at the airship. 'Sure, I've already seen this in the movies, but in real life, it's a lot more awesome.'
Paying attention to the guards in front of him again, he noticed they had made a path for Okoye.
Okoye slowly walked over to Liam, holding a gray circular object and what appeared to be two rather large black rings, which Liam recognized as handcuffs. He held his arms in front of him, knowing things like this would be useless against him anyway.
'Alas, I will at least give them a false sense of security,' Liam thought, bored and slightly annoyed. Although this was expected—he would have done the same in their position—it still felt irritating.
Okoye's expression didn't change as she put the two black rings around Liam's wrists. Once they were secured, the rings started humming slightly before an energy field pulled them together, restricting his arms.
Seeing no reaction from Liam, Okoye held the final object in her hand. She stepped closer and pressed it against his forehead. Liam prepared himself, just in case they tried to do anything he absolutely couldn't accept.
But once it attached to his forehead, it slowly expanded over his eyes, making him realize what it was.
'Nanotech blindfolds,' Liam thought as his vision slowly turned dark. 'That's fine by me. I can still tell where they are anyway, and I can just portal in later.'
It was obvious that they didn't want to reveal how people could enter their real country. Wakanda wouldn't have remained a secret land for this long if they had let just anyone in without precautions.
"We will start walking again," Liam felt one of the guards approaching. "I will guide you into the ship."
Liam nodded, feeling a hand on his shoulder.
He and the guard walked into the airship, followed by the four other members of Okoye's squad. While walking inside, Liam passed through multiple scans checking for electronic devices, weapons, and other items. Finally, inside, they remained standing while one of Okoye's squad members operated the ship.
A few minutes passed before the airship landed again. Liam turned around, hearing the latch open behind him. The guards started walking and guided Liam outside with them. Once he was outside, they stopped.
"We will remove your blindfold now," one of the guards said.
"Alright," Liam responded, already sensing multiple new groups of people approaching.
These new arrivals surrounded him once again, just like the Dora Milaje members had done before, but this time, there were a lot more of them.
Upon removal of his blindfold, Liam looked in amazement at the massive, technologically advanced city around him.
'Definitely made the right choice in coming here,' Liam thought, amazed.
"Walk. The king is waiting," Okoye said, breaking Liam out of his thoughts.
The large group of guards and Liam started walking toward a giant, majestic building. Large open gates welcomed them, leading to a massive platform. Once they all stood on the platform, it slowly started rising.
After a minute, they reached the top floor.
Okoye and the other Dora Milaje members moved through a large corridor in front of Liam, while normal members of the Border Tribe ensured he followed behind them but always kept a certain distance.
The Dora Milaje members opened another, much smaller, set of doors leading into a massive room. They lined up in front of a brown throne, slamming the ends of their spears into the ground.
Once Liam walked through the smaller set of doors, he could get a good glimpse of who was inside the room. On the throne sat an older man whom he recognized as King T'Chaka. Beside him stood his wife, his son, T'Challa, and his daughter, Shuri.
On either side of the room stood about four other people, both in hologram form and in person. Some he recognized from the movies, others not. The two in person he recognized were Zuri, the spiritual advisor, and W'Kabi, the head of security. The only person in hologram form he recognized was the top-notch spy, Nakia.
He continued walking until the guard guiding him stopped him and returned to the other twenty or so Dora Milaje members guarding the king.
The massive throne room fell into silence, all eyes focused on Liam. King T'Chaka raised his hand, shifting most of the attention from Liam to himself.
"Who are you, and why have you come to Wakanda?" King T'Chaka asked.
After a moment of silence, Liam introduced himself.
"Let me formally introduce myself," he started. "I am Liam Hawthorne, a master-level sorcerer."
Liam paused for a few seconds, making sure to let that sink in while he looked around the room with a smile.
He had mentioned being a sorcerer on purpose for multiple reasons, such as adding mystery and gaining their interest. But the most important one was to make his story more believable later on.
"I came here as the leader of the organization Aegis to inform you and potentially cooperate with you."
(Comment another organization name if you don't like it, I genuinely have no idea what a good name is.)1
