Chapter 17: Chapter 17 : S.W.O.R.D Agents
The sea of stars enveloped the living room, with the doors and windows closed. The stars shone all over the place, giving off a faint gleam.
All afternoon, Finn was immersed in the magic of creation. Sometimes, the process felt deeply miraculous, as if he could sense the waves of elements around him, making it seem like everything in the universe was under his control.
But as the afternoon passed, Finn failed to complete the creation of the Art of Spiritualization.
The technique of spiritualization was different from that of the Shadow Corps. The former was conceptually more complex than the latter. Not to mention that in the Marvel universe, any spirit technique he created would naturally be stronger than the original version.
In other words, he had only borrowed the concept of the Spiritualization Technique.
In reality, the creation was an entirely different technique.
As a result, the time required to create the Art of Spiritualization had increased.
Besides, he had to deal with Agatha Harkness, the most powerful witch on Earth, who had lived for centuries. Her strength was not to be underestimated.
"It looks like it will take at least twenty days to complete," Finn murmured.
That night, after dinner, Finn returned home and took out the light orb containing the Spiritualization Technique.
After perceiving it, he found that there were still many flaws that needed to be improved. He let go of the light orb, deciding to continue tomorrow.
After all, the problem couldn't be solved in one go.
As a self-proclaimed slacker, Finn knew he couldn't spend all his time on it—sometimes, he just needed to lie down and relax.
Humans are born to live, not just survive.
Sitting on the sofa, drinking a beverage, and watching a favorite movie before bed was undoubtedly one of the best ways to enjoy life.
Cinema, one of the eight great arts, was the greatest invention of the 20th century. A good film could guide an audience's thoughts and stir their emotions, much like literature.
Besides, the aesthetics of films were pleasing to the eye.
But...
Finn preferred using movies to fall asleep. Lying on the sofa, his eyelids grew heavy. His vision blurred, and finally, he dozed off.
Boom!!!
The clock on the wall showed six o'clock the next morning.
A knock on the door pulled Finn out of his sleep. Checking the time, he saw that it was still half an hour before his alarm was set to ring.
"Who the hell is knocking this early?"
Click...
"Excuse me, is there any room available for rent?"
When he opened the door, a man and a woman stood outside, suitcases in hand, smiling.
Finn's expression turned displeased. "The reason you're knocking so early is just to rent a place?"
The most annoying thing in the morning was being woken up before the alarm rang.
"Sorry, Mr. Finn. I'm Jimmy Woo. We just arrived in town today and urgently need a room. Apologies for disturbing you so early," the man replied sincerely.
"Jimmy Woo?"
Finn was slightly taken aback upon hearing the name, instantly becoming more awake.
He recognized the man in front of him. He was a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. After S.H.I.E.L.D.'s collapse, he had joined S.W.O.R.D., becoming part of its investigative team.
The dark-skinned woman with curly hair beside him was Monica Rambeau, also an agent of S.W.O.R.D.
Both had appeared in WandaVision.
Good grief... First, Scarlet Witch, then Agatha, now S.W.O.R.D. agents? Does this building have some sort of gravitational pull for major Marvel figures?
But since they had come, Finn saw no reason to refuse them. He grabbed a key from a cabinet near the door and tossed it over. "There's a room available. Go put your things down first, then come back later to pay the rent."
He wasn't hurting for money, but since the house was sitting empty, he figured it was better to rent it out.
It was highly likely that S.W.O.R.D. was here because of the supernatural events happening lately.
Not that Finn cared.
After all, they were just regular humans—not a threat to him in the slightest.
"Thanks," Jimmy Woo said, taking the key in a daze. This landlord was... surprisingly easygoing.
After sending off the two S.W.O.R.D. agents, Finn was no longer sleepy. After a quick wash, he headed to a café for breakfast.
He didn't call Wanda—the witch was still asleep.
After breakfast, he returned home and resumed working on his magic.
The process wasn't too boring.
After all, everything depends on the meaning a person assigns to it. Some people get excited watching football, while others find video games thrilling.
It all comes down to personal interest.
When someone enjoys what they're doing, no matter how tedious it may seem, they can still find joy in it.
Finn was the same way.
The morning flew by.
In the afternoon, instead of continuing his work, he chose to relax with some video games.
During this time, Jimmy Woo returned to pay the rent. As expected, he asked a lot of questions—most of them related to Wanda.
Clearly, S.W.O.R.D. believed the supernatural incidents were connected to her.
No one suspected Finn.
And Finn was more than happy to keep it that way.
Over the next month, life in Westview was uneventful.
Finn stuck to his usual routine: spending mornings refining his magical version of the Spiritualization Technique and indulging in entertainment in the afternoons.
Or, sometimes, Wanda would drag him out for a walk or conversation.
After more than ten days of spending time together, she started seeking him out more and more. To outsiders, the two seemed almost inseparable.
For Finn, this was good news.
Wanda's depressive mood had gradually faded. His previous approach had clearly worked—his optimism was rubbing off on her.
In time, he wouldn't have to worry about her losing control.
As for Agatha Harkness, the old witch still dropped by—always when he was with Wanda.
She had yet to find any concrete evidence or clues, and she hadn't confronted him directly.
As long as Finn's identity remained unconfirmed, his system wouldn't register a failure in hiding.
However, it was obvious that Agatha already saw him as a competitor, fearing that he might take Wanda's Chaos Magic for himself.
Whenever she saw them together, she looked like she wanted to tear Finn apart.
Time passed quickly.
A month flew by in the blink of an eye.
One evening, Finn had just finished playing a game when a notification sounded in his head.
[Ding! The host has successfully remained hidden for nine months. Please continue to work hard!]
