Chapter 12: Chapter 12 : Wanda's Suspicion
The efficiency of the Westview Town Police Station was very fast. It didn't take long for the sheriff to bring people to the scene, get Gordon off the scene, and start collecting evidence.
"Finn, what happened?"
Upstairs, Wanda heard the commotion and went downstairs, where she saw the police taking notes from Finn and Agatha.
"Someone was lurking in Agatha's room."
Finn's expression revealed fear, as if what had just happened had nothing to do with him.
"My God, that's too dangerous! Luckily, you're not hurt."
Wanda's eyes widened slightly when she heard this, and she walked over, visibly worried.
Although she is not an Avenger, she is still a girl at heart, and hearing such things naturally surprised and worried her.
After all, someone had managed to sneak into the house without their knowledge!
"Don't worry, those guys seemed to be only after money," Finn said with an easy smile.
"But it does mean that the security measures in the apartment are too poor. It seems we need to improve the security facilities."
"Agreed."
Agatha, standing nearby, didn't respond to the conversation. She didn't bother paying attention to the young landlord.
Her mind was preoccupied with the shadows that had flashed by earlier.
Combined with the poisoning incident, she was almost certain that the shadowy figure was the same person, and it was very likely that they were also a dark magician.
"Sorry to bother you, Ms. Agnes. Everything you mentioned is here, and nothing is missing," a police officer interjected at that moment.
"That man wasn't after money? Then what was he after?" Finn asked, confused.
"Maybe he didn't succeed. Since nothing was lost, let's let this matter pass. I won't file any lawsuits, and you don't need to investigate further," Agatha said calmly.
She knew that everything had been done by another dark magician.
It didn't make sense for ordinary people to investigate.
It was better for her to use her own backtracking magic to examine the scene herself.
"Aunt Agnes, are you sure?" Wanda asked, still concerned.
"Yes, if there's no loss, there's no need to make a fuss," Agatha replied with a gracious smile.
Wanda saw her insistence and didn't push further.
She chose to respect Agatha's decision. Most people in America value their freedom and don't like being judged.
The police quickly wrapped up their work and left the scene.
They were always relieved to encounter victims who didn't press charges, as it saved them a lot of paperwork.
As for Finn and Agatha, the latter refused to let the construction team repair the windows. Agatha insisted that she could find someone to fix it herself.
She assured them she would rest and that they could leave without worry—everything would be fine.
"Let's go eat, then," Wanda said, turning to Finn. "You treated me to lunch yesterday, so today it's my turn to treat you."
"Sure," Finn replied, slightly surprised by the invitation. He had thought it would be difficult to get the usually reserved Wanda to take the initiative.
Looking at it now, his previous prejudice against the Scarlet Witch seemed a bit unfounded.
Maybe Wanda wasn't as bad as he had thought.
...
The two chose a Japanese restaurant. On the way, Wanda mentioned that she had enjoyed their food before and wanted to try it again.
When they arrived at the Food Festival, it was noon.
Normally, this would be a busy time, but due to the recent poisoning incident, the crowd was much smaller.
The owner of the restaurant, a Japanese man, mentioned that Mr. Wilson would be holding a charity event the next day to help mitigate the negative publicity.
Without Wilson's charitable efforts, he feared the incident would linger in people's minds for a long time.
Finn felt a pang of guilt when he heard this. He hadn't expected one incident to cause such a chain reaction. It was a classic example of the butterfly effect.
But fortunately, the fallout hadn't caused Wanda to lose control prematurely.
"What's on your mind?" Wanda asked, noticing his distant expression.
Her melancholic brows furrowed as she stared at him. "You seem to zone out often."
"Because I'm a deep thinker," Finn replied solemnly.
"You make me feel strange. We only met yesterday, but you seem to have known me for a long time and understand my situation," Wanda said, her tone turning serious.
She had noticed this earlier in the morning. When she thought about it, ever since they met yesterday, Finn had given her the impression that they had known each other for years.
But she was certain they had never met before.
As someone with telepathic abilities, the effects of her Chaos Magic ensured that her memories were never confused or forgotten.
Yet, her Chaos Magic also gave her a strange feeling that the two of them had some kind of connection.
"Maybe it's just fate," Finn said with a natural smile.
"I don't believe it. Unless you let me try telepathy," Wanda said, not waiting for his response.
She stood up and leaned over, placing her hand on his temple.
This was one of the reasons she had invited Finn to dinner today...
"Ahem... no problem," Finn said, slightly surprised. He hadn't expected her to be so direct.
He felt the softness of her touch against his temple.
The natural instincts of a man made him glance down. He could only describe what he saw in one word: Milky White, breathtaking.
"I won't hurt you," Wanda assured him, her slender, smooth hand already pressing against his temple.
Finn caught a whiff of her intoxicating scent and slowly closed his eyes.
A faint scarlet light emanated from Wanda's fingertips, wrapping around Finn's temples like a pair of gentle hands, soothing his mind.
It felt incredibly comforting.
Wanda, too, closed her eyes.
The next second, her eyes went blank as her soul successfully entered Finn's mental world!
All of Finn's memories were stored here!
