Chapter 16: Chapter 16
Chapter 16: Grenade Upgrade
Among the remaining skills Luke had learned, two stood out—Dragon Fang and Round Dance Stick from the Battle Mage class.
Both were staff-based techniques, meaning they required a stick or staff to be performed.
After mastering Dragon Fang, a detailed map of human acupuncture points appeared in Luke's mind. This move used a staff to strike key pressure points, numbing the opponent's limbs and leaving them completely stiff—a sitting duck for a beating.
Luke couldn't help but think of the legendary Dog-Beating Staff Technique.
But that wasn't even the most ridiculous part.
With a clap of his hands, the mechanics of Round Dance Stick surfaced in his mind.
Luke was stunned.
This skill didn't undergo any realism adjustments like his other techniques.
Round Dance Stick: Use a staff to flip an opponent into the air, then slam them down.
That… completely defies the laws of physics.
Luke scratched his head in doubt. "Is this even possible?"
Yet, the sheer brutality of the move intrigued him.
Just imagine—flipping a full-grown man into the air using only a staff, breaking all known principles of leverage, and then smashing them back down, spitting in the face of Newton's laws of motion…
"Yeah, Newton's rolling in his grave."
Luke chuckled. "Looks like I'll need to carry a staff from now on. Good thing I didn't get a blind man's skill, or I'd have to go full-on 'Stick Man' mode."
But the weirdest revelation was yet to come.
Street Fighter skill: Brick Attack.
As a warm current flowed into his mind, Luke felt… disappointed.
This wasn't some hardcore martial arts move.
It was literally a guide on how to knock people out with a brick—where to strike to KO someone without killing them, the best angle for maximum impact, and so on.
Luke felt a wave of secondhand embarrassment.
Because this skill actually required an actual brick.
"So… am I supposed to carry a brick with me now?!"
Just imagining it—a New York cop stopping him on the street:
"Sir, please put down your weapon… Uh, I mean, the brick?"
Luke facepalmed.
If he ever learned Net Throw or Street Storm, would he have to start carrying fishing nets, pipes, benches, and trash cans everywhere?!
"Screw that! No way!"
Luke swore on the spot—these skills were off-limits unless absolutely necessary!
The thought of fighting Kingpin and suddenly going nuts, hurling trash cans at him, was too humiliating to even consider.
On the bright side, though, he was now at least half a martial arts master. He could even claim proficiency in two of the Eighteen Arms of Wushu—
The Staff… and The Brick.
…Actually, let's just forget about the brick.
Among his new skills was also Mind Shield from the Qigong Master class—something he already had.
But when he held the skill book, the system notified him that he could still learn it.
Curious, Luke turned to Ross, who was lazily sprawled on the bedside table, half-asleep.
"What happens if I learn a skill I already have?" Luke asked.
Ross lazily cracked an eye open. "It stacks, obviously. The skill levels up, making it stronger."
"Got it."
Luke absorbed the Mind Shield again.
Immediately, he felt a noticeable improvement in his control. The ability felt smoother, more instinctive—like he'd been practicing it for years.
When he tested it out, he noticed he could now activate the shield faster.
Plus, the shield's radius had doubled—from 1 meter to 2 meters.
The energy dome also looked rounder and sturdier.
"Nice. That means its defense is stronger, too."
Luke nodded in satisfaction.
This Mind Shield was the reason he had survived the hail of gunfire last night.
As long as the shield held, nothing could touch him inside.
He could do whatever the hell he wanted inside—
Like chucking grenades.
Compared to hiding behind a dumpster, he'd much rather be known as the Mother of Thunder.
This time, he had drawn a new grenade skill—Freezing Grenade.
Now, he had two grenades in his arsenal—Electric Grenade and Freezing Grenade.
Freezing Grenade: Upon explosion, releases ultra-low temperatures, freezing everything in range solid.
In DNF, this was a core skill of the Ammunition Expert class.
Now that it existed in real life, Luke expected it to be insanely powerful.
Unfortunately, while he knew how to make it, he didn't have the materials.
The key component? Liquid nitrogen.
And that wasn't exactly something you could just find lying around.
"Eh, I can probably order it online. Shouldn't be a problem."
Luke decided he'd go on a shopping spree later—buy everything he needed in one go.
He still had $60,000 left in his bank account, but he wasn't sure if it'd be enough.
Because grenades weren't the only thing on his list.
That special skill he wanted? He had a gut feeling it was gonna cost him a fortune.
"Money's a bastard… but everybody loves this bastard."
Luke sighed.
Making quick cash in Hell's Kitchen wasn't gonna be easy for a while.
After last night's chaos, the whole district was in panic mode.
It'd take time before another "get-rich-quick" opportunity popped up.
In the meantime, he'd stick to selling burgers for daily expenses and saving up for the big stuff.
TP Skill: Grenade Improvement.
Now this was the real jackpot from today's draws.
Aside from that mystery skill that would probably cost a fortune, Luke figured this grenade upgrade would boost his combat power the most.
As the name suggested, Grenade Improvement allowed him to enhance his existing grenades.
The process was complex, but in simple terms, it involved:
Replacing cheap materials with high-grade ones.
Reinforcing the grenade casing with stronger metals.
Enhancing the payload for a bigger blast radius.
Right now, his Electric Grenades weren't even operating at full strength.
Mostly because they were made from scrap—
The motor from his old toy car.
The toaster Karen threw out (which he salvaged).
A busted alarm clock.
Even one of his adoptive father's empty beer bottles.
If his current grenades were at 50% power, TP-enhanced grenades would boost them to 130% or more.
And with better materials, that number would only go up.
Luke rubbed his chin.
"Damn… I really am walking the path of Mother Thunder, huh?"
What if he got his hands on Adamantium or Vibranium?
How insane would Electric Grenades or Freezing Grenades be with those metals?
Sadly, that was just wishful thinking for now.
Vibranium wasn't exactly something you could buy off eBay.
(TL: For those wondering I change the name Lotus to Ross, comment if you like the change)
