Chapter 45: Chapter 45 Death of Otto
[Peter looked at Otto with a pained expression. "You once told me about wisdom," he began, his voice steady despite the chaos surrounding them. "You said it was a gift that should be used to benefit mankind!"]
["These things have turned you into someone else," Peter continued, motioning to the mechanical arms coiled around Otto. "Don't listen to them!"]
[Otto's eyes flicked toward his mechanical arms, conflicted. "This is my dream!" he protested, his voice filled with both longing and despair.]
[Peter stepped closer, his tone softening. "Sometimes, for the grater good, we have to compromise. We have to give up what we want most—even our dreams. My Aunt May taught me that."]
[Otto listened to Peter's words and began to reflect. The mechanical tentacles behind him began to feel uneasy. Otto murmured to himself, "You're right!" Hearing this, the mechanical arm opened its tentacles towards Otto, trying to control Otto again.]
[Suddenly, the mechanical arms moved, their claws opening menacingly toward Otto. A voice in his head urged him to relent, to let the tentacles take control once more. But Otto clenched his fists, his face hardening with determination. "No!" he shouted, his voice breaking through the mental noise. "Listen to me… now! Listen to me!" Summoning all his willpower, Otto broke free from the arms' control.]
[The tentacles loosened their grip on Peter, dropping him to the ground. Peter quickly stood, brushing debris from his suit. "Now tell me how to stop it!" he demanded.]
[Otto hesitated, then shook his head grimly. "It can't be stopped. It's running on its own now." His voice carried both regret and resignation.]
[Peter's heart raced as the situation grew more dire. "Think, Doctor!" he urged, his voice tinged with desperation.]
[Otto thought for a moment and said, "Unless! In the water! Sink it in the water!"]
[After hearing Otto's words, Peter turned around and wanted to sink it into the water, but Otto's tentacles held him back. Peter looked back at Otto in confusion, and Otto said calmly: "I'll do it!"]
[Otto stood up from the water and walked straight to the artificial sun. He looked back at Peter Parker and then walked directly under the machine.]
[At this time, Peter felt a pair of eyes staring at him. He turned around and found that it was Mary Jane. She was looking at him in disbelief and surprise. Just as the two looked at each other, the steel bars supporting the wall behind Mary Jane were sucked away, and the wall collapsed immediately. Peter shouted: "No!!!"]
[Mary Jane also noticed the wall coming towards her, and stepped back in fear, accidentally falling to the ground. At the critical moment, Peter rushed over, held up the wall, supported it with his back, and looked at Mary Jane.]
[Peter didn't know how to talk to Mary Jane, so he could only say "Hi!" to her. Mary Jane responded to him. Peter leaned against the wall and smiled bitterly, "This is really heavy!"]
[Otto has arrived directly below the artificial sun. He roars, and the mechanical arm uses all its strength to break two of the supports that support the machine. The artificial sun begins to tilt.]
[Peter, still holding up the wall, glanced at Mary Jane. "MJ," he said, his voice cracking under the strain. "What if… we don't make it out of this?"]
[Mary Jane looked at him, her eyes softening. "You love me," she said simply, her voice unwavering.]
["Yes," Peter admitted without hesitation. In that moment, with death a very real possibility, there was no point in hiding the truth.]
["Even though you've always said you don't," she pressed, a small smile forming despite their dire circumstances.]
[Peter nodded, his face earnest. "I do."]
[Otto looked at the artificial sun above his head and said, "I don't want to die as a monster!!!" Then he twisted the last two brackets violently, and the entire artificial sun fell into the Manhattan River, along with Otto underneath.]
[At the same time, Peter sensed the danger and burst out with strength, lifting the entire wall and throwing it forward, picking up Mary Jane. As soon as he turned around, he found a metal frame rolling towards them.]
[Seeing the metal rack so close, Mary Jane screamed in fear. Peter jumped up and swung on the spider web, holding Mary Jane and leaving the warehouse that had been mostly devoured.]
[Below them, the entire warehouse was sucked into the artificial sun and sank into the river. Otto's body floated with the artificial sun and sank to the bottom of the river with it.]
Tony Stark watched the scene unfold on the sky screen, a rare look of sadness crossing his face. "Dr. Otto… What a waste. In the end, he sacrificed himself to fix his mistakes. A brilliant mind gone, with no body left to bury."
He sighed, leaning back in his chair. "It's a shame we weren't in the same world. We could've collaborated—discussed academic research over a drink." A faint smile touched his lips before fading. "Farewell, Otto. Your genius was undeniable, but your hubris… well, that was your undoing."
"Otto..." Rose looked at Otto who had sunk to the bottom of the river, and hugged him with tears in her eyes. Dr. Otto also hugged her gently, and the two of them embraced each other in silence.
[Near the river, Peter laid Mary Jane on a giant spider web stretched across a crane. He climbed up beside her, his mask pulled back, and their eyes met.]
["I think… I've always known who you are," Mary Jane said softly, her voice trembling with emotion.]
[Peter's gaze didn't waver. "You know why we can't be together," he said. "Spider-Man will always have enemies. I can't put you in harm's way."]
[He looked Mary Jane in the eyes, "I will...always be Spider-Man! You and I can never be together!"]
[Hearing Peter's words, Mary Jane trembled, closed her eyes, and turned her head. At this time, the sound of a police car siren was heard in the distance. ]
[John Jameson arrived in a police car and saw Mary Jane slowly descending from the crane holding the spider web. He ran toward her, shouting her name as he ran.]
[Mary Jane and John hugged each other on the crane, but Mary Jane's mind was no longer on John. She turned her head to look at Peter Parker in the distance, and Peter was also looking at her in the distance.]
[Finally, Peter put on his mask and left. Mary Jane looked at Peter's figure going away and leaned sadly in John's arms.]
{*EN: Reading this again made me realize how awful this whole MJ and Peter relationship storyline, Honestly I feel sorry for John, he deserve better.}
"Peter Parker is very responsible. He is willing to stay away from her to protect her, but I think Mary Jane will come back to him. Do you believe it?" Tony once again expressed his emotion about the complicated relationship between Peter Parker and Mary Jane, and then said to Pepper with a solemn vow.
"I think so too. Women are always emotional creatures. When she knows Peter Parker's true identity, the strong emotions will make her overwhelmed and she will go looking for him desperately." Pepper nodded in agreement.
"What about you? Will you go crazy for me?" Tony asked suddenly.
"That depends on your performance..." Pepper turned around and smiled, wanting to walk out, but Tony stood up and hugged her in his arms, "Then it depends on my performance..."
On the other side, Peter Parker looked at Mary Jane on the sky with a complicated expression. He found that his relationship with Mary Jane was becoming more and more complicated. Harry liked Mary Jane, and Mary Jane had a good impression of both Harry and him.
He wanted to be a good Spider-Man and help Harry and Mary Jane, but the screen always entangled him and Mary Jane. He was upset and didn't know what to do.
