Chapter 44: Chapter 44 A Stronger Artificial Sun
"Oh, this is indeed a very shocking revelation," Tony Stark mused, his eyes fixed on the screen displaying Harry Osborn's confrontation with Peter.
"The person who killed his father turns out to be his good brother? But…" Tony paused, swirling his glass of whiskey thoughtfully.
"Didn't Harry ever check his father's body? The stab wounds from the glider were obvious. Any coroner worth their salt could've seen that Norman Osborn impaled himself."
Tony set his glass down with a soft clink. "Why does Harry keep blaming Spider-Man? The hatred for his father's death is understandable, but Norman killed himself. The guy was unhinged, and Peter acted in self-defense."
["Remember what you say today, Tony Stark!"]
The sudden, disembodied narration of the screen made Tony jump, nearly knocking over his drink. "Hey! Are you spying on me now?" He stood up, glaring at the ceiling. "Or is this your twisted way of saying you have a crush on me?"
The screen ignored his remarks entirely. Frustrated, Tony sank back into his chair, his mind racing. "What's the point of that message?" he muttered.
Before he could think further, his phone buzzed. He picked up the call to find Nick Fury's gruff voice on the other end. "What kind of nonsense are you asking now, Stark?"
Tony recounted his thoughts about Norman Osborn's death and Harry's misguided grudge. Fury listened in silence, then hung up abruptly without much comment. Turning to Maria Hill, who stood nearby, Fury said, "Pull everything we've got on Howard Stark's death. Every file, every shred of evidence. I want to review it all."
[In an abandoned warehouse by the Manhattan River, Otto looked at the tritium element in front of him and started the experiment again. Mary Jane, who was locked up beside him, kept yelling at him until Otto finally couldn't stand it anymore and turned around to look at her. ]
[Mary Jane yells at him, "I'm talking to you! Now that you've got what you wanted, can you let me go?"]
[In response to Mary Jane's question, Otto said calmly: "I can't let you go, you'll call the police! No one can stop me, now that Spider-Man is dead!"]
[Mary Jane's eyes widened, disbelief etched across her face. "You're lying! He's not dead!" she insisted, shaking her head.]
["Believe it," Otto said coolly, before turning his attention back to the experiment.]
[At this time, Peter had quietly arrived at the abandoned warehouse. Otto noticed Peter's arrival, smiled evilly and ignored him.]
[Peter quietly came to Mary Jane and whispered to her: "Surprise!" Mary Jane looked at him in great surprise, then turned back to look at Otto who was still doing the experiment. ]
["As soon as I let you go, we're getting out of here," Peter began, but before he could finish, one of Otto's mechanical arms lashed out, sending a steel bar hurtling toward Mary Jane. She screamed as the bar narrowly missed her, and Peter dodged nimbly, landing in a defensive stance.]
[Otto has stopped operating his machine. Several tentacles hold him in the air. He takes off his goggles, looks at Peter and says angrily: "I know Osborn doesn't have the guts to kill you!"]
["Turn it off! Otto! You're going to kill more people this time!" Peter tried to persuade Otto to give up, but Otto had been completely controlled. He said to Peter: "We are willing to take this risk!"]
["I don't!" Peter said, and then he jumped towards Otto, trying to trap the mechanical tentacle with spider web in mid-air, but he failed. Instead, he was caught by the tentacle and thrown out with a violent swing.]
[Peter flew into the night sky, adjusted his body, stuck the roof with spider web, pulled himself back, and with the rebound force of the spider web, he broke the glass and kicked Otto.]
[The impact sent both men tumbling into the river below. They surfaced amidst the turbulent waves, and Peter wasted no time landing several punches on Otto. However, the battle was interrupted as the artificial sun began emitting violent solar prominences, the intensity of its magnetic field increasing exponentially.]
[Metal objects throughout the room were pulled toward the glowing orb, including the chains binding Mary Jane. The anklet around her foot dragged her closer to the artificial sun, the metal straining under the gravitational pull.]
[Soon the metal pillars that originally supported her could no longer withstand the gravitational force of the magnetic field and began to bend, and Mary Jane moved closer to the artificial sun.]
[Mary Jane's scream attracted Peter's attention. He turned around and told Mary Jane to hold on, then punched Otto away. At the critical moment when Mary Jane was about to sucked away, Peter used spider web to stick to the rope on her hand.]
[Just as Peter was in a stalemate with the magnetic field, the metal anklet on Mary Jane's foot was sucked into the artificial sun and melted. Mary Jane thus escaped the gravitational pull of the magnetic field, and Peter successfully pulled her back.]
[Peter only had time to say "Run!" to her before Otto knocked him to the ground with a wooden pillar. He picked up the fallen Peter and threw him against the wall, then grabbed his legs and lifted him upside down.]
[Mary Jane, who was hiding in the back, watched this scene, mustered up her courage, and picked up a stick. Just as she was about to hit Otto, the tentacle blocked her weak attack and knocked her aside.]
[A sharp spike stretched out from the tentacle, "Let's see how scared you are!" Just as Otto stabbed Peter, Peter finally recovered under the effect of spider sense, and suddenly shot out spider web, pulling up a thick cable on the ground, blocking the attack of the spike. ]
[The current in the cable flows through the mechanical arm to his body, causing Otto to scream in pain.]
[Seizing the moment, Peter leaped toward the artificial sun's power source. With all his strength, he yanked the plug, severing its connection. Both he and Otto were thrown back by the resulting explosion.]
[Peter coughed, disoriented by the blast. To his horror, the artificial sun didn't collapse as expected. Instead, its magnetic field grew stronger, pulling larger metal objects into its core. The destruction extended beyond the building, with road signs and vehicles from nearby streets hurtling toward the glowing orb.]
[Peter looked at this scene in confusion, wondering: "What???" At this time, the large metal objects in the room could no longer hold on, and began to bend, deform, and break, flying towards the artificial sun.]
[Even the road signs and vehicles on the distant streets could not resist this powerful magnetic field and were attracted to it.]
[Otto finally recovered from the electric shock, and his mechanical arm was temporarily overloaded because it absorbed too much current for Otto.]
["Dr. Octavius!" Peter called out, removing his mask to reveal his face. Otto stared at him, his eyes widening in recognition. "Peter Parker?" he muttered, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "The smart but lazy student..."]
[Peter's expression was grim. "Look at what's happening," he said. "We have to destroy it before it's too late."]
[Otto turned to the artificial sun, now a raging storm of energy. "I can't destroy it," he said, his voice laced with despair.]
[One of Otto's mechanical arms began to recover, rising ominously. Otto's face twisted with anguish. "I don't want to!" he cried, but the tentacle acted on its own, lunging toward Peter's neck.]
