Chapter 9: Chapter 9
Iris
I stood outside the Asher company, my eyes fixed on the company and anger rushed through my vein.
"Let's go in guys" I said signifying to my team members, Rachel, Mike and Delilah, their faces set with determination.
Spending more than years to gather up evidence, building a case that would bring this family to justice wasn't easy but we did it and it was time to take action.
I took a deep breath, my hand resting on the handcuffs in my pocket.
We walked into the building, our footsteps echoing off the floor. The receptionist looked up, a smile on her face but suddenly confused. " Grace, it's been awhile, how are you?" Praise said looking from me to my team.
"I'm Detective Iris," I said, flashing my badge. "I'm here to see Kieran Asher. Is he in?" I said as serious as I could be and I sure took her by surprise.
"Detective?" She questioned.
"I'd need to talk to him Praise, don't waste my time" I said and she placed a call to his assistant immediately.
Few minutes later, she motioned for us to go in and we went in as fearless we could be. Immediately I got into the office, Emily hugged me, dragging all attention to us.
"Grace, how are you? I've missed you a whole lot" she said smiling sheepishly.
I smiled, a cold, hard smile. "Hi Emily" I said and went away from her side, going into Kieran's office.
I opened his office and was met by his father, Victor Asher, his step mum Evelyn, and also Kieran.
Good Timing. This would be fun. HuhI'mI smirked to myself.
"Grace?" He said or questioned. whatever!
"Good morning, Mr Asher" I brought out my badge "I'm detective Iris and you're under arrest for the death and assaulting of Lily Collins" I smiled.
Kieran's smile faltered, his eyes widening in shock. "What are you talking about?" he stammered.
I pulled out the handcuffs and snapped them onto his wrists. "You have the right to remain silent," I began.
"What do you think you're doing, young lady" Victor Asher said, making me shift my attention to him.
"Oh pardon my manners Mr Asher, I'm detective Iris" I said taking Kieran aback and causing murmurs from others workers.
"And so?" He said nonchalantly.
"And so?" I repeated scoffing " You're under arrest for embezzlement, murder, rape, theft, treason..... you want me to go on and on?" I smirked and turned to Deliah to get him uncuffed.
"What do you think you're doing" He questioned.
"Arresting you and making sure you serve jail time, Mr Asher" I said as sweet as I could be.
"I fucking need my lawyer" He said.
"Yes yes yes, you can get one but " I moved closer to his ears "just walk quietly to the station and don't disgrace yourself, sir" I said.
Victor 's face turned red with rage as I led him and his son away in handcuffs. My team members followed close behind.
"Have a nice day ahead, Emily" I winked and left.

Kieran
I sat in the cold interrogation room, my wrists still sore from the handcuffs. I couldn't believe it. Grace or should I say Iris, the woman I had trusted, the woman I had started to open up to, had betrayed me.
How could she do this to me? I thought we had a connection, a understanding. But I guess I was wrong. Really wrong.
The door opened, and Iris walked in, a folder clutched in her hand. She looked formal and also look like a detective. How did I not see all this coming? I should have noticed something when I dropped bouquet of flowers at her doorstep the other day. Damn, slow me.
"Good afternoon gentleman" she began, her voice firm but controlled. " I'd be here for just few minutes and ask few questions"
I didn't respond. I just kept looking at her, my eyes boring into hers. I wanted to see the truth, to see if she really believed I was capable of such a thing.
Iris shifted uncomfortably, her eyes darting away from mine. "Kieran, I need you to understand-"
I still didn't respond. I just kept staring at her, my silence a heavy weight in the room.
Iris sighed, her shoulders sagging. "Fine," she said. "If you're not going to talk, then I'll just have to do this the hard way."
She pulled out a stack of photos and evidence, slapping them down on the table. But I didn't even glance at them. I just kept looking at Iris, my eyes accusing her of betrayal.
"Did you really think I did this" I finally said.
"Then who else will, huh?" she bursted out. "I'd appreciate you tell me the truth, Kieran. That's the only thing that can help you at this moment. Telling lies will not get you anywhere" She said.
"You really thought I did this" I said nodding my head in anger and betrayal " I trusted you Grace..... Iris, you even kept all these from me" I said
And then, something unexpected happened. Iris's composure cracked, and she looked away, her eyes welling up with tears.
"I'm sorry, Kieran," she whispered. "I really am."
But it was too late. The damage was done. I didn't say anything else. I just kept staring at her, my heart cold and hard.
"If you want me to speak, then I need my lawyer" I said taking my eyes off her.
She wiped her tears, stacked up all the files and turn to leave.
"Your lawyer would be here Tomorrow" she said and left, leaving me again.

Lawyer Eliza
Defending the Asher family is what I can do day and night. supporting them despite their wrong doings and acts. By when the news got spread widely that Iris Moreau finally arrested the Asher family, I was really excited. Who doesn't know Iris Moreau, Victor Asher probably can't remember her because he thought he killed her that day also.
I got into the station and was taken to where my so called clients where. I straightened my back, had a straight face and walked into the room cutting Iris halfway her conversation with Victor.
Iris was the true definition of a diligent and zealous woman. she looked so pretty in her white shirt and black pants making her look like the only person worthy to be called a lawyer. I stopped drooling over her when I shared an eye contact with Victor. I cleared my throat, trying to sound so professional.
"What's going on here" I asked.
"I'm just having a chat with Mr. Asher," Iris said, her tone neutral.
"You can't make my client say anything without a lawyer, you know " I said crossing my arm.
"I know Miss Eliza, I'm not new to this" She said standing up.
My eyes lingered on Victor's handcuffs before I turned to Iris. "I'd like to speak with my client, alone"
Iris nodded and stepped out of the room, leaving me alone with Victor.
As the door closed, I shifted my gaze to Victor and sat down.
"What have you been doing, you bitch" He spatted.
"I will not have you call me that Mr Asher. I got information late and I hope you haven't said anything to her" I asked.
"No, I hope you check on my goddamn son to see if he has spilled some tea" he said crossing his legs over the table "And I'd need you to get me bailed out before tomorrow, is that clear" He ordered like I was some puppet.
"It is very clear, Mr Asher but it can't work like that" I said taking him aback.
"What do you mean it can't work like that" He asked.
"The evidence she has on you and your son is very concrete and it might take Alot of time to silence this case down" I sighed.
"I have a plan, since you can't come up with any at the moment" He said picking my interest in the plan.
"I'd need a burner phone with my assistant number in it. And I need you to keep a close eye on Kieran" He said.
"And what do you want to use your burner phone for" I asked, curiously.
"It's none of your business, just get me the burner phone by tomorrow morning and do as I say" he commanded.
I sighed, packed my bags and turn to leave.
"I'd see you tomorrow, Mr Asher. Have a good day" I said and left in search of Iris.
I walked up to a guy who had "Mike" on his tag name and asked for Iris. He hesitated but eventually showed me her office.
"Thank you" I said and left to find Iris.
I knocked on her door and her heard her say "come in". I pushed the door opened and walked in. I slipped a small folder onto the table. Her eyes widening as she picked the folder, scanning it's content. it was a more concrete evidence of the Asher's family corruption.
After sensing her confusion. I sighed and began by saying "They took my sister too, traded her like commodity and I've been searching for the right time to take my revenge" I said.
Iris's eyes narrowed and her voice sounding sympathetic "And why are you helping me?"
"Because I owe it to my sister. And because I need to believe that justice is still possible."
"Thank you Eliza and I'm so sorry" she sounded so sincere.
"Don't thank or trust me Detective, I'm still their lawyer but I will do what I can to help you take them down" I said and left.
