Legendary Shelter Survival Guide

Chapter 188: Canal complete!

"So today, it is the inauguration of our canal, a lot of sweat and blood was shed for making it but we persisted till the end. Making it was not necessary but we still did it so I will keep it short… TO US!"

Everyone looked at Lucas for a few seconds, seeing his enthusiasm made them smile like children.

"TO US!"

"Alright, now for breaking this bank." Lucas looked at the chunk of land that was segregating the canal from the river.

Many looked at the shovel in Lucas's hand with envy, they wanted to break the bank too!

But because Lucas was the leader, the maker of this plan, the implementer, and much more.

They had no face to ask for breaking the bank themselves.

Lucas looked at the chunk for a few seconds and then with a deep breather, he smacked the shovel right at the center of the bank breaking the upper part on the spot.

This display of strength was seen with indifference by the others as it had already been established that Lucas had become too strong.

SLATTER!

Before Lucas could even take out that chunk, the pressure from the water made the whole chunk start flowing with the water toward the canal.

"Finally!"

Lucas didn't break the lower part of the bank so as to not let the canal be overwhelmed by the pressure from the river water.

The water flowed with violence inside the canal, but the aggressiveness only lasted for a few seconds because the canal was deep, and when the water reached the ground of the canal, it started flowing forward with 1 meter of depth.

The canal was four meters in depth which was a decision made by John and he was again right.

Every corner, every right or left that they were thinking were dangerous for the flow didn't go as planned at all. It was just too perfect with nothing to worry about.

The water was not that high up so it traveled without problem toward the end of the canal they couldn't look at as it was far for their eyes to reach.

"LOOK! The fishes!" Barney shouted while pointing at the aggressive flow of water at the start.

Lucas who was all this time trying to follow the flow of the water ahead looked back at the bank and saw that many fish had started to come through it.

They traveled with the stream of water very fast making Lucas smile ear to ear.

John hugged both his sons and wife while giving a nod to Lucas. The canal may have been an extra project, something that everyone saw as nuisances other than some in the shelter had now become a source of happiness in the life-threatening lands.

While they were looking at the fish traveling in the canal, One certain fish hiding near the aquatic plants of the river was looking at the group and the canal with glowing eyes.

It was as if it was trying to perceive what was happening in the river that was so peaceful all this time. The fish was just like all the others, with bluish scales, long in width, and eyes looking just like any other fish on Earth yet there was only one different thing, the glow in the eyes.

It looked unnatural and even the intelligence the fish was showing was also abnormal.

Lucas was too happy to care about the gaze, the gaze was so menial that he hadn't even noticed it.

Finally, the canal project was ready but at what expense? Lucas didn't know.

"It is finally complete huh… Good job, boy." John said as he patted Lucas's shoulder.

Lucas felt proud with the pat, the feeling was very warm and welcoming and he went in for a hug.

John was surprised but he hugged him tightly too. He knew that Lucas was missing his parent and sister. They were very safe and Lucas had done everything in his power to keep a steady supply of food for both their groups even if his sister couldn't pay a lot.

Nobody had a problem. But he still used the quota he had to take care of it not taking anything extra from the shelter than was necessary.

But there was still that longing to meet them. It only made John pity the kid while happy that his family was not broken apart.

Lucas broke the hug and nodded with a smile. It was a show of gratitude toward John as without him, the canal could not have been so perfect. The man's brain was just too brilliant.

Many in their 40s would have better experiences than normal but John was a rarity in even them.

"Hahahahahah! I am here too!" Jerry came running and grabbed Lucas tightly while moving him up.

The size difference made Lucas hang in the air as the guy hugged him tightly while laughing crazily.

Lucas had the urge to scream as his bones popped abnormally yet he just smiled in response. It was Jerry's way of showing happiness and he let it pass for today.

"Alright Alright, enough!" Lucas pulled out of the hug easily and jumped down.

"Good job" Mike came too and offered a handshake. Lucas looked at the hand for a second and with a cheeky grin, he reciprocated the handshake only to pull the man for a hug with the tug of the hand.

Barney and Sean too came and congratulated everyone when finally Haley, Sarah, and Sandra came.

"Good job, Lucas." Sarah said with her eyes warm and her cheeks reddish. It seemed as though someone had slapped it a few times.

"Thanks" Lucas offered a handshake and Sarah very much appreciated it. She couldn't dare hug him like all the men and Lucas shared the same feeling. He wanted to but found it inappropriate.

Until he felt a tug on his shoulder as his arm got wrapped by something soft.

Lucas looked to his right shoulder and smiled, Haley was inches away from Lucas's face as she made some eye contact.

"Good job, Lucas. I knew you could complete it."

Her voice came out very bold which Lucas liked to hear. Some confidence was always appreciated from the others around him as it made him a bit more comfortable.

"Yeah, right. You were the one who told me it was a waste of time." Lucas had the urge to laugh after rebuking yet he persisted.

"Hehe~ So what, as if you ever listen to what I say anyway."

Lucas felt another tug on his left shoulder knowing well who was there.
