Chapter 187: No Fatigue (3)
"Aren't you tired?" Mike was finally sure that there was something weird going on.
Lucas got up and loosened his grip on the pickaxe making it fall while he started wiping the sweat on his face.
"Not really."
Mike first felt like it was the only thing to say, when you are not tired, you're not tired. But it had been two hours of continuous work!
"Hm, but you always used to get tired way before this time. I don't see you exhausted at all, just sweat and dirt."
Lucas looked at his arms and saw that he was very dirty but there was not only that.
"Now that you mention it, I am supposed to be tired by now, even just a little tired but it should happen…" Lucas thought and in a second, he finally realized as he grinned madly.
Mike did not like that grin at all.
"It's because of my title!" he screamed and opened his status to look at the description again.
"It's written here that I am resistant to fatigue to some extent and that my natural healing is not natural anymore. I might have to test that too."
Before Mike could speak, Lucas had taken his sword out of the scabbard on his waist. Under Mike's curious gaze, Lucas made a cut on his arm.
"What are you doing?" Mike asked with surprise, he wasn't expecting this reaction at all.
"Just seeing if my healing is really fast. I will just leave the cut as it is and see how fast it heals."
"But its bleeding a lot…"
"Yeah… it is bleeding more than I expected… whatever! Let's get to work."
Lucas went on and worked while drops of blood flowed from his hand. He worked for a minute and then looked at the hand, it was still bleeding, the other minute, still bleeding. He did so for 10 minutes and on the very tenth minute.
The blood stopped and it was fully clotted. Lucas knew that it was still sensitive so he gave it a little more time while he made his way and kept working on the canal.
He lost control and one of the shovels broke but he had two more left.
All this time, Mike had kept pestering him to close the wound with a cloth if he really wanted it to stop bleeding with Ella yet Lucas wanted to try something. He was losing blood but not much to kill or make him dizzy.
Minutes turned to hours when all his shovels were finally broken and no stone was there, so the pickaxe was rather useless in getting out the dirt.
"… We have really come a long way this time huh."
"Heh, yeah." Lucas looked at the canal they had dug so far and then to his back, a big silhouette could be seen. The shelter could be now seen from where they were digging entailing the fact that they were very close.
"You want to power through? I can ask someone to bring us some more shovels and potions right now." Lucas asked, his face showing the intent he had already thought about.
Mike looked at him deeply before he sighed and nodded his head making Lucas smile in return.
They were working again and now, even John had joined them. He was the one that came with the shovels and the potions and in addition, he also brought Lucas's food that he ate within a minute.
Time seemed to pass without problem for the workers as they kept working and working. At this point, John would have already stopped Lucas and Mike but the completion was really close, closer than the others in the shelter would think of.
Even John was very surprised by the fact that Lucas was all this time working without stopping and finally after 3 more hours, he started huffing in exhaustion.
"Boy, you have really done something this time. You not getting exhausted even after working all this time is unimaginable." John said with admiration as he continued, "How about it? I come and practice that stretching with you and Haley in the morning huh?"
Lucas wiped the sweat from his brow and leaned against the canal's edge for a moment, catching his breath. He had been working tirelessly for hours, and even his newfound resistance to fatigue had its limits.
"I would appreciate that, the more the group progresses in strength, the more I feel relieved and less stressed. It's not like I can do everything on my own."
"You don't have to do everything yourself, you have us," Mike said in between getting a gratitude-filled nod from Lucas in return.
Lucas for some time sat with criss crossed legs and meditated.
His meditation was mostly to help him calm his nerves and breathing and he was done in half an hour. That was a lot of time but he had really started the exhaustion to start kicking in but it was still fixed primarily in half an hour.
They kept working until it was pitch dark and now they even had to use standing torches that were held in the shelter's storage all this while.
Even Jerry had come to help them and one thing was clear. The canal was going to be completed that night.
"…" Jerry huffed in exhaustion as he smacked the shovel on the ground making it erect on there.
He looked at Lucas who was still working with his eyes too focused. He had removed his shirt and now everyone could see the shining Lucas who had sweat all over his body.
He looked like a person who was told that if they don't work till death, then their family will die. Jerry soon found envy as he kept looking at Lucas's work.
While he was very burly and strong, Lucas was completely opposite of him. His height was smaller than Jerry's, Lucas didn't have explosive muscles with veins popping everywhere yet they all could feel an intimidating aura piercing their skins from that build. It felt dangerous and Jerry envied it.
John had a smile on his face and he looked at everyone present there.
'Let's see how he sparks courage in everyone this time…'
