Chapter 182: Talk from the heart
"What triggered it this time?" He asked, eying Lucas with seriousness. Lucas averted his gaze and shook his head in dismissal.
Alas, John was adamant.
"If you don't tell us what triggered it, then we can't help you, Lucas. I can't let you go berserk like this again and again."
Lucas had a feeling that John was not getting to something good this time. He only sighed and wiped the sweat off his forehead.
"I just thought of how… if I don't complete this shelter upgrade, which I can't do without you all. I will actually die… die without meeting my family and taking care of them. Wihthout getting them to this shelter, keeping them safe." Lucas said with a concerned face, he could feel something bubbling inside of him.
"Lucas"
Lucas got out of his daze when he heard his name called in such a way. He looked up toward John.
"You left one thing that you thought about just now… That if we don't help you, the shelter will not upgrade in time. That we would not help you. Isn't that right?" John said.
Lucas knitted his brows in annoyance, John was digging too much.
John also didn't like putting all this in front of everyone, but it was important.
'I want to get you to trust us more, Lucas. Just a bit more.'
Everyone looked at Lucas's expression and soon, realization hit him.
"Damn man, you still don't trust us?" Sean was the first to break the silence. Lucas looked at the guy and then averted his gaze not answering such a question.
Yes, he trusted them all, but not to the point that he could depend on them, he did not know why but he had this fear that now that he was a bit dangerous and out of control, they would all leave due to fear. This all made his emotions get out of control

"Let's just drop this alright? I got out of control because I am not used to getting my thoughts to heighten my emotions this much. Let's just go on with our meeting, I can control myself fine now."
"No, we are going to talk."
John's piercing gaze bore into Lucas, his eyes filled with concern and determination. He wasn't willing to let Lucas brush aside the issue. "Lucas," John began again, his voice unwavering, "We're all in this together. You don't have to bear the burden alone. Trust us enough to share your worries."
Lucas ran a hand through his hair, his gaze shifting from John to the faces of those gathered around him. They all wore expressions of genuine concern, and he couldn't deny that they had come a long way together, facing the challenges of this strange world as a united front.
"I do trust you all," Lucas finally admitted, his voice softer this time. "It's just... It's hard for me to let go of the control." Lucas finally spoke from the heart instinctively, not minding what he said now.
Barney, always eager enough, chimed in. "But Lucas, we've proven ourselves capable from time to time. We've faced monsters, explored unknown territories, and adapted to this world. We're not just people that live in your shelter; we're a team."
Lucas was surprised to hear this, even though he knew that what Barney said was right.
They had gone through a lot and he knew it, Lucas could only think that because of how they had lived together for only some time, there was still not complete trust. How could he trust them so easily? They were not his family. 5 of the members were very new and had no care bond for now.
But people still had something to say making Lucas luckily get out of his overthinking.
Sarah, who had been observing Lucas intently, added, "We care about you, Lucas, and we want to help you achieve your goals. You don't have to carry this burden alone. We're here to support you."
Lucas's shoulders slumped as he let out a heavy sigh. He realized that his reluctance to fully trust his companions had held him back. It was time to let go of his pride and embrace the collective strength of the group.
"I mean, if this was going on in your mind, then you have nothing to worry about. I am confident that I can even give my life for you, you know." Jerry said. This was like the last nail in the coffin. Lucas could literally feel the genuineness of everyone.
"You're right," Lucas conceded, his eyes meeting John's once more. "I need to let go of some control and rely on you all like always. We'll work together to find a way to obtain the metal we need for the shelter upgrade."
John nodded in satisfaction, and the tension in the room seemed to dissipate. "That's what we needed to hear, Lucas. We're a team, and we'll tackle these challenges together."
Something clicked in Lucas's mind, he already had this conversation which was even more intense than before with John but why did the guy ask the question again in front of everyone?
Lucas could not connect the dots for a few seconds when finally, the realization hit him in the nards hard.
'The previous time, he and I talked personally, nobody else even knew this was a thing… ohh, so that's what this was for…' Lucas's thoughts made him smile instinctively without knowing.
John wanted to let others know what Lucas thought and what was actually making him unstable with stress. He knew that when everyone would speak from the heart to him, things would get better and that was the case.
'Is he a genius or something or am I just too dumb?' Luca couldn't comprehend it but he was relieved that a person like John had coincidentally stumbled on his shelter and that he was a part of the shelter and the group.
When everyone saw that smile, a relief could be seen on everyone's face. This group was not like any other. There were no strings attached, no treachery in anyone's hearts. They all cared about each other, as was the bond that was made between them because of this strange new world…
