Legendary Shelter Survival Guide

Chapter 172: In the shelter but the fear still exists...

Lucas after looking at Sarah for a few moments of time, looked to the ground, it was a bit far.

The 15 feet height was no joke and Lucas knew that.

"Sarah, we should first get on that branch and then climb on the ground." He stated.

"If our knees and legs could handle the jumping, then I think it can handle the fall too Lucas. And Aunt Ella can heal us easily."

"Oh really? Then you should jump first, it's your idea anyway."

"Y-Yeah" Sarah looked at the ground and while it looked very far, she had a feeling that it wouldn't hurt. One could say that she was in over her head, her jump to the branch was easy, and she thought that the fall would be easy too.

Lucas knew that when they climbed, it was comparatively easy but now even the gravity was going to increase the speed of her fall.

Sarah was going to back out but love is kind of a curse that is bad at times like these. She didn't want to look weak in front of Lucas.

Lucas watched as Sarah hesitated on the edge of the branch, a mixture of determination and uncertainty playing across her features.

He could sense the internal struggle within her, the battle between her bravery and the genuine fear of the unknown.

Despite his playfulness, he cared deeply for her well-being. Lucas didn't want her to even try this, but he also knew that even if the knee could break completely, Ella was there with a high healing to make anew in a matter of minutes.

As Sarah took a deep breath, her heart pounding audibly in her chest, Lucas's own heart raced in the same way, one could say they were in synchronization.

He understood the gravity of the situation – quite literally – and he wanted to ensure that Sarah wouldn't get hurt.

But he also knew the importance of letting her make her own choices, to prove to herself that she could overcome her doubts.

With a determined nod, Sarah finally propelled herself off the branch, her body gracefully slicing through the air. In those fleeting moments, everything seemed to slow down for Lucas. He saw the fear in her eyes when she looked at the branch one last time before falling down, a reflection of the emotions he himself was experiencing.

The ground rushed up to meet her, much faster than climbing down would have allowed. Lucas held his breath, his heart pounding even harder now, as Sarah's body impacted the ground with a soft thud.

She stumbled slightly upon landing but quickly regained her balance, her face a mixture of surprise and relief. Ella, the healer of their group, approached Sarah, concern etched on her features.

"Are you alright?" Ella asked softly, placing a hand on Sarah's arm.

Sarah grinned up at Lucas, triumphantly raising an eyebrow as if to say, "See? I told you so." Lucas couldn't help but chuckle, his relief palpable.

Seeing Sarah's success emboldened Lucas. He started propelling his body, a determined glint in his eyes. He needed to show her that he wasn't just challenging her for the sake of it; he believed in her capabilities.

Without further hesitation, he pushed off the branch, mimicking Sarah's earlier action. The wind rushed past his ears, and for a moment, he truly felt like he was flying.

Then, the ground came up to meet him, and he landed with a practiced grace that came from years of similar daring escapades.

THUD!!

Lucas placed a lot of strength in his swing which made him fall faster than Sarah, his knee hurt a bit but that was it.

Sarah's expression shifted from amusement to concern as she rushed over to Lucas, examining him for any signs of injury. A mixture of relief and warmth filled her gaze as she realized he was perfectly fine.

"See?" she teased, a playful smirk on her lips. "Easy, right?"

Lucas rolled his eyes, unable to hide his smile. "Yeah, yeah, I get it. You were right."

Their laughter filled the air, signifying the release of the tension that had built up during the daring jump. Their camaraderie was renewed, and they basked in the moment together.

Lucas couldn't help but admire Sarah's courage, and Sarah couldn't deny the growing admiration she had for Lucas's willingness to take a leap of faith, both figuratively and literally.

And in that shared moment of laughter and connection, the unspoken bond between them grew stronger, proving that even in the face of fear, like had a way of turning challenges into triumphs.

"Alright Alright, get out of your own world," John commented while clapping to catch their attention.

Barney and Sean came down too yet their fall was nothing compared to Lucas and Sarah's but the voices that came out of them made everyone either laugh or shake their head in dismissal.

They all followed that marking they had left on trees and land that were hidden well. If only the group wanted to find the markings, then they would find it, otherwise, it was very difficult to spot it if a random person or creature just strolled through the land randomly.

It took the group half an hour to see the silhouette of the shelter with their slow speed. Lucas wanted to run back home yet he was too tired.

Out of all of them, there was one thing that was not exhausted at all. The basilon kid was jumping and moving around the groups, especially Ella showing his playfulness on full display.

Lucas's initial urge to sprint back home had faded into a comfortable pace.

He was tired, yes, but the thrill of the jump still coursed through his veins, fueling his steps. Sarah walked beside him, and their shoulders brushed lightly, yet it didn't bother any of them.

The jump was nothing in some's eyes yet it was very exciting for Lucas. Jumping from 15 feet high branch was a feat he couldn't achieve back home and he did a lot of this stuff in his home's big park-like backyard.

As they neared the shelter, the group's voices grew louder, their enthusiasm palpable. Even Sandra, who was usually quiet, joined in on the laughter and conversation, her healing abilities a quiet reassurance to the group.

Finally, the shelter emerged from the trees, its familiar shape bringing a sense of relief.

Lucas had the memory of a once simple structure made of wood and rocks in his mind that had now changed into heaven for him and the group.

"Home sweet home," Barney exclaimed, throwing himself onto a makeshift chair with a dramatic flourish.

The basilon kid, full of youthful energy, continued to bound around the group, finding joy in the simplest of things. His carefree antics brought smiles to everyone's faces, a reminder that even in the midst of challenges, there was room for playfulness and happiness.

As they settled into the shelter, the exhaustion of the day began to catch up with them. They shared stories, exchanged jokes, and relived the exhilaration of their jump.

The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm orange glow over the clearing. With the fading light, a sense of peace settled over the group, a testament to their bond and the adventures that had brought them closer together.

Lucas knew why the groups had not stopped talking or laughing, they knew that when silence fell on them again, it would be difficult to even close the eyelids.

The dark prison had taken a toll on many. While the darkness was hard to get accustomed to, there was also the problem of them hearing the random voices in the dark.

It had scarred Many, especially Mike, Sandra, and Lucas who were the ones that got the most out of the whole deal.

Lucas tried to ignore it yet when the sun fell again, his eyes wandered to the dark in the forest outside the security barrage, a shiver went down his spine as the more he looked there, the more he felt like back inside that darkness.

"Alright Lucas, Sean, and Barney. Help me place the vertical torches on the shelter's territory."

"The same one from a few months back?" Lucas asked, nostalgia present in his voice.

"Yeah, making them would be my job so you all have to wait here, when it comes to erecting them, you will all do that work, alright?"

Sean nodded while Barney said a little, "Yes", Lucas just looked at John who went on to the storage to get the stuff from which he was going to make the torches.

"Wait, it is time to upgrade the shelter too, Haley, give me the ores." Lucas asked with a hand gesture to make it quick.

Haley was just going to give the ores yet she stopped.

"It's late, Lucas. Do you mind if we do the upgrade later? We all just want to sleep now..."

"Hmm... understandable. But bring the ores in the storage, we will store them there."

Just like that, the plan was made to upgrade the shelter in the morning. It was something everyone awaited but sleep was also important.
