Legendary Shelter Survival Guide

Chapter 146: Peculiar Hobbies

"In total, we have 10 groups that we are trading with, 8 of them are the ones we have not seen before but our services brought them to us."

John said while he and the others traveled back to the shelter as the day was coming to an end.

"10 is good enough for now. We can't handle more work than this. But do try to form more contacts for later, you never know what the other person got. And how is the search for the ore going?" Lucas asked while looking everywhere.

The way back might have been safe but in a land such as the Plains of Amaeron, it was never too safe. They got to know this after the gods played with them out of nowhere.

Lucas still feels the pain of the acid that fell on his face that day and it had become the worst nightmare that was making him awake every time he remembered or imagined it.

"I have asked everyone I know about it but it is tough to get an ore out of nowhere. An ore is also something that does not come out of the reserves or ground."

"Then where can we get it? Only the ore is left to get in order to level the shelter again. We need 1 more upgrade after it so we got to be fast, Uncle John."

"I know, Lucas. But you have to know that ores are processed. For example- if I need to get copper. I will have to first extract rocks or land that has some copper mixed in it. Then I would have to extract the copper with some methods and in the end, I will be left with the ore that I can use to make anything out of it later so it's not easy.

The shelter has also not specified which ore it needs and that's a good thing. We can get any type of metal and process it."

John explained while everyone listened intently.

Other than Lucas, it was difficult for the others to listen to him as not many have such interest in fields like this and it just so happened that both Lucas and John were relatively the same when it came to liking interests such as these and it was good for the group.

"Alright, I will ask my sister and parents again and see what we can do. But is it tough to find metal inside the ground because it tended to be pretty easy in the games?"

"If only all this was a game and we could all return back safely after winning or losing but it's not that easy. We are talking about finding a mining reserve that we don't know even exists down where we will be digging. It will be random and luck is also a part of finding it."

Lucas became sad when he heard that.

"It is easy to just practice till exhaustion and repeat to get the proficiency and level ups but when things are not our control, it's frustrating."

Seeing Lucas all sad, John had the urge to say something nice to him yet he had nothing.

"But isn't there good news too?" Sarah asked while she walked beside Lucas.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, all this time, whatever the shelter required something for the upgrade. It was difficult to get them but not impossible so why will it ask for something impossible this time when there is a time limit? I know metal comes from mountains, caves, and ground... so maybe we should try finding it around the shelter. Maybe we can find it and upgrade our equipment too.

Maybe the shelter will upgrade to something nice and better than before?"

Listening to her blabber about all the possibilities, Lucas not only had a change of heart but he also got the courage to move forward and find some metal on his own.

"You may be right, Sarah. If there is a need then there is always a supply somewhere too. Lucas, we might have to do some work on our own."

"But where will we get the time, Uncle John? I got the training, the concrete bricks, the canal, we can't add more to all this." Lucas said but in his heart, he already knew what John was going to say.

"Th canal and the bricks are secondary! The foremost is to complete the shelter upgrade and the training!" John exclaimed in anger.

'I knew it' Lucas thought, his face but a wisp of the former curiosity and excitement.

"... Alright." Lucas said while showing his dejection.

Even if there were responsibilities on his shoulder, Lucas had the feeling that he could complete any work that he had to if he had the courage to do it.

"You are a man, sacrifices are part of the journey," John said and patted his shoulder.

Lucas could only nod in agreement, what he said was right.

'But shouldn't I get a reward for all this hard work? Whatever, I will just do everything on my own...' Lucas steeled his resolve.

He was determined to not only complete his obligations for the objective but also the extra things he liked for his own enjoyment in this new world.

'Things have now started to get a bit stable and fun, why will I change back to the boring old ways?'

While Lucas was making these shady plans in his mind, John was just staring at him with a frown.

He knew by his face what exactly he was thinking about as he was the same as him thinking to just go with the flow and be done with things when they come knocking.

'Sigh... he is too much like me... I don't know if I should be happy or feel bad.' John thought.

He had finally found someone who took an interest in the same things he liked but he thought this part of him to be the worst as it hindered his present responsibilities and seeing the same thing in a 19 year old kid didn't help with the situation at all.
