Chapter 144: The new equipment
"We got so much peace that now we are even focusing on random things and think that it's normal?" Sandra said with narrowed eyes while looking at a certain someone who was the one that started this project.
"Well, isn't it nice that we are safe now?" Lucas asked with a smile and continued, "Do you like being chased by monsters or the living dead that much?" He teased which made the other people chuckle with him.
Sandra just clicked her tongue in annoyance, she knew Lucas had a point.
"If we had started making this back at home, ridicule was the last thing we would have gotten. I like how free we have become."
"True"
Lucas felt the same way, he had an interest in these kinds of random things from the start but the insect of obedience and playing by the societies's rules had made him reluctant to do such stuff back on Earth.
"Alright, enough sightseeing," Lucas said and got up from the ground, in front of him as the lively river just flowed endlessly toward the east, even if the water was flowing, the fish seemed to be still on the water bed.
The water was so clean that the ground could be seen without trouble, there was trouble in measuring the distance of how deep the river really was.
All of them had only heard from Lucas who had taken a good bath and swim in the river alone.
"Alright, Uncle John, where do we start?"
John was near a tree that was above the ground a bit and he assessed the whole land with the help of the height.
The whole land could be seen from the small five feet hill where there was only space for a single person to stand.
"We have to just start somewhere, I think this flow would be nice, observe the land I mark." John jumped off the land and not even a single groan came from his mouth showing everyone how much the forty year old man had changed from the first day he came to the shelter with his family.
Lucas knew that whether John and the others accept or not, he knew how much everyone's health had improved to the point that Lucas was confident that he could live 100 years of natural lifespan if there won't be any mishaps before his time really comes to go.
John with a firm stick in his hand traveled to the border of the river and after looking for a few seconds, he crouched and started making a line while moving back until he came a few meters away from the small five feet mountain.
"This will be the first area where we will start excavating the land." John stopped after he stopped making the line and stood straight.
"I can see that you have made the line in such a way that there are no big obstacles but we will have to see if these curves could hold the water like you told us or not." Jerry chimed in and said while scratching his small beard.
"Yeah, we will have to do it before any hopes can go up, let's start digging with our new dashing equipment, everyone," John said and went to the side where some things were kept.
Lucas went there too and took hold of a makeshift item.
----
Crude Stone Shovel
Common
A shovel made from basic extremely common grade rock and wood. With the help of the maker, the raw material was used to the best and such an equipment was born.
Durability- 30/30
----
"Uncle Daryl is really good, huh, it even has a description screen." Lucas marveled over the equipment again which looked like a crude copy of a machine-made iron shovel.
It had a rock that was finely polished into thin but long slate, the slate was curved in the border to hold the dirt or gravel they were going to dig with it.
The long wooden handle looked hard and handy yet after reading the description, Lucas was not going to overuse the equipment.
"I know right? Its durability is bad and that cheapskate is counting on it so that we order more. Hahaha… he doesn't know what skill my son has."
John said and patted BArney's shoulder who broadened his chest in pride and a rare smirk frome in his face.
Barney had the 'Mystical Restoration' skill that helped all in getting the durability back on their equipment or weapons. Discover more content at empire
"Yeah, we are going to count on Barney. Let's start already."
Just like that, John made a better blueprint on the ground showing how much and from where they had to dig the land.
The canal that they were going to make was going to start with 3 meter breath so as to not get a lot of water at once.
"We will start just after the river is so that it is easy to make the water flow in the man made water body easily afterward."
John went and smacked the makeshift shovel on the ground with precision and then like an experienced man, he smacked his feet on the shovel making the shovel go deeper inside.
Lucas looked at him with excitement and when he got the thumbs up to also start, he hit the ground at random inside the layout that was to be dug out and started using it the same way as John.
"It's so easy!" Lucas exclaimed and dug out a chunk of soil from the ground.
"Damn, what a monster." Bill whispered from the side, he had done the same thing and only a small chunk of soil had come out.
Lucas just went and dug and dug until a lot of it was outside and he had taken out the soil of about 1 meter area and around 2 feet in depth.
Others looked at him weirdly when he went on and on and on with the digging until Lucas stopped and looked at his shovel with confusion.
"It's only been 2 minutes, why is the durability already down by 1?"
Nobody said anything and they started working again in order to be done with this work quickly.
Many like Bill, Sandra, and Haley didn't want to do such labor but after observing that everyone was chiming in to help. They reluctantly went to work.
