Chapter 69: Power

**********************

Beneath the Ördögház: Corridor

Lucian approached the open elevator shaft, bracing himself against the side as he peered down. His elf and kitsune eyes easily pierced the darkness, revealing the vampires leaping into the shaft below.

"Looks like these vampires aren't as stupid as I thought," Lucian raised a brow in amusement. He wasn't surprised they had a backup escape plan in case of a sunrise attack; after all, they were an old, well-prepared coven with considerable wisdom.

After taking a look towards the vampires who were scrambling for their lives, Lucian decided against following them. He had a different goal in mind, the one he needed to accomplish. Turning around, he walked toward the elder chamber.

•-----•-----•-----•-----•

Beneath the Ördögház: Elder Chamber

The steel gate creaked open, revealing the two raised coffins and the bodies lying beside them.

Lucian frowned, his gaze lingering on the scene. He pulled a handle from his waist and flicked it slightly, summoning his energy blade. He walked towards the coffins and found them empty. He glanced around the chamber, his eyes scanning for any sign of movement.

"To think the one who had the guts to attack the elders would be a fox," a dry, screeching, horrible voice echoed in the room. The sound was so grating, so unnatural, that it sent chills down Lucian's spine.

"Oh, you can sense what I am?" Lucian asked, his voice laced with a mocking amusement as he looked toward the wall where various swords hung. Something scrounged and crawled on the wall, picking up swords with blinding speed before disappearing.

"You may be able to hide your aura, but we have lived for a long time. The scent alone tells us you're a fox boy," another horrifying voice rasped, coming from a different location.

Lucian, despite his initial composure, couldn't help but mock the elders with their voices so jarring.

"Although I know you guys are old, I didn't know you would sound like an old man dying in his breath," Lucian mocked, a grin spreading across his face. He suddenly turned around, looking at the skeletal figure scrounging on the floor.

"Who's fault is that?!" Viktor shouted, his voice a horrible screech filled with dread and anger. He stood up, the cracking of his bones echoing in the chamber.

Viktor threw the sword in his hand towards Lucian.

Lucian finally saw Viktor, his form a terrifying spectacle of dry bones and skin. He was naked, his muscles withered, his flesh pale and lifeless. 'Well, that explains the horrible voice,' Lucian thought with a shudder of disgust.

Lucian wondered how Viktor could still move with such speed, with a body of a skeletal frame. Lucian dodged the sword, then cut it in two with his energy blade.

'It's already a miracle that they're awake. After all, they just drank blood. They should need a long time and a lot of blood to recover,' Cortana's voice echoed in his mind, bringing back memories of the movie where Selene had to inject blood into Viktor's body to make him recover quickly from hibernation. This was much different.

Lucian smiled, knowing this. 'Then this will be ea—oh shit,' he thought but his smile vanished as he dodged a sudden attack. Marcus, who was supposed to be in another coffin, was standing before him, his form as grotesque and skeletal as Viktor's, his bony hand holding a sword slashing down to Lucian.

Lucian who just dodge raised his energy blade, intent on severing Marcus's head in a single fluid motion. But his eyes widened in disbelief as Marcus ducked under the blade, evading the strike with astonishing reflexes.

Lucian, despite his surprise at Marcus's speed and reflexes while not recovered, Lucian prepared for another attack but he felt Viktor lunging toward him with fast speed.

He sidestepped Viktor's claws, spinning as he swung his energy blade towards Viktor.

Viktor bent backward to avoid the strike, and Lucian realized these two were far more agile and powerful than he had anticipated.

Unfazed, Lucian continued his spinning motion, aiming his energy blade at Marcus, who dodged yet again. However, Lucian's target was not Marcus, but the sword in his hand. He sliced through it effortlessly, then leapt back, creating distance between himself and the two elders.

Viktor raised his body slowly, his bones cracking with each movement. He glared at Lucian, his eyes burning with fury.

"You think it will be that easy to kill us, dog?" Viktor said, his screeching voice now laced with pride. He could sense the masked man's distress, and he knew that they were the target from memories they received with the blood of the vampires that had awakened them from danger.

Viktor walked towards the sword he had thrown at Lucian earlier and picked it up.

Marcus stood beside him, his bony hand gripping his own sword, pointing it at Lucian.

Lucian remained silent, a frown deepening beneath his mask. 'They're much stronger than I thought,' he mused. Realizing his initial assessment had been far too optimistic. His knowledge of the elders had led him to believe that defeating them would be a simple task yet again he had been wrong.

'You should be thankful they've only just awakened,' Cortana retorted. 'Otherwise, you'd be in serious trouble facing them at full strength.' She noted their surprising power, even in their weakened state, hinting at the devastating potential they possessed once fully recovered.

Lucian didn't speak, but his frown deepened. He saw the two elders about to move.

He pulled the pistol from his waist aiming it towards them and fired.

*Bang* *Bang* *Bang*

Viktor and Marcus reacted with incredible speed, dodging the bullets with ease, one even crawled along the wall. Even calculated shots couldn't hit them both.

'Looks like I need to get more serious,' Lucian thought as his silver irises began to glow, and his black pupils turned a brilliant yellow gold. He raised his pistol and fired at Viktor.

Instead of dodging, Viktor stopped, allowing the bullet to puncture the stone wall past him.

Lucian appeared beside him, stabbing down with his energy blade.

Viktor's eyes widened, his instincts kicked in, rolling to the ground, dodging the blade by mere inches.

Lucian's eyes narrowed in response. He raised his other hand towards Viktor, opening his palm. A silver fire shot out, engulfing Viktor in a searing blaze.

Viktor's eyes widened in alarm. Viktor leaped to the wall, escaping the flames as he let out a screeching hiss toward Lucian, revealing his fangs.

Lucian felt Marcus attack from behind, slashing at Lucian's neck with a broken sword. Lucian deactivated his energy blade, allowing the sword to almost touch his neck before it inexplicably stopped.

Marcus stared, bewildered, at his suddenly immobile sword. Then he looked at Lucian, who had turned around facing him.

Lucian waved his hand, flicking the energy blade back on, catching Marcus completely off guard, while Lucian raised his energy blade, intending to cut off Marcus's arm.

Marcus dropped his sword, pulling back his hand, but Lucian's attack was too fast. His left arm was severed. He leaped back, crouching and screeching in rage baring his fangs towards Lucian.

Lucian took the sword that Marcus had let go, his gaze sweeping over Viktor and Marcus as they took a step back. He raised the energy blade and the sword, a menacing tableau. Four silver, flame-like aura tails flared behind him, a manifestation of his control over his aura and a testament to his seriousness.

The number of tails represented his mastery of his powers, Umbrakinesis, regeneration, fox fire, and Psychic abilities. It was this last power, Psychic, that made Lucian capable of telekinesis, and allowing Cortana to interact with the real world through him with incredible precision.

'Do you need help?' Cortana asked, ready to utilize Lucian's telekinetic abilities if he allowed her. She could catch their enemies by surprise.

"No, I can handle this myself," Lucian whispered under his breath, disdaining to ask Cortana for help against two vampires who were not even at full strength.

Lucian observed Viktor and Marcus, who were getting ready to lunge at him. 'I need to disrupt their combination and flow,' he thought, noticing their years teamwork fighting together. Their synergy made them difficult to defeat quickly. He needed to break their rhythm, their trust in each other, to gain an advantage.

A grin appeared on Lucian's lips as he thought of a plan.

"Marcus, let's make a deal," Lucian said, turning toward Marcus, who stopped moving.

Lucian voice was calm, almost casual, but his eyes were sharp, his gaze fixed on Marcus.

Viktor's eyes widened. He screeched at Lucian, his voice a mix of anger and disbelief. Then, he turned to Marcus, his gaze intense.

"Marcus, don't believe anything he says. He knows he will lose. That's why he keeps talking."

"I don't think so. I already got this place covered with explosives, ready to destroy this building," Lucian said, smirking towards Viktor and turning back to Marcus.

"I only need your arm cut off, And I'll tell you some information, the key for your brother's cage is inside his chest." Lucian pointed towards Viktor, his smile widening expecting both of them to fight.

Marcus froze, his mind racing and start considering.

Viktor's face filled with shock. He didn't know how the fox in front of him knew about William's cage key inside his chest.

"Lies!" Viktor shouted, dropping off the wall and charging toward Lucian. Viktor knew he had to kill the fox in front of him to survive. If Marcus joined the fox's side, he would be finished. While knowing how Marcus would free William with any given chance.

*Clang!*

Lucian and Viktor clashed with swords. Lucian waved his energy blade, slashing sideways at Viktor, who dodged by ducking.

Lucian felt a rush of movement behind him. He jumped, spinning on his heel, his reflexes honed by years of battle. The air whipped past him as he dodged Marcus's claws, a mere hair's breadth from a fatal strike.

'Pity,' a passing thought flickered in Lucian's mind. He hadn't seen them fight like he had planned. He spun, throwing the broken sword toward Marcus before he landed on the floor.

Marcus dodged the sword, letting it pass before catching it by the handle and turning towards Lucian.

Viktor, though delighted that Marcus didn't betray him but at the same time he knew it was only a matter of time before they started to kill each other. In their weakened state, it was the only chance for Marcus to get the key from him.

Lucian stood up, watching the tension between Marcus and Viktor. 'Looks like it worked after all. But Marcus needs a bit of a push,' Lucian thought. He pressed the side of his mask, ordering Raizo.

"Explode some of the bombs, but don't let the building collapse," Lucian said, wanting to set an example for Marcus.

[Understood] Raizo responded, and a sound of explosion followed. The ceiling started to quake, little cracks appearing.

Marcus and Viktor stopped, looking at the shaking surroundings, frowning. Viktor focused on Lucian.

"Do you think we'll be af—You!" Viktor didn't get to finish his sentence. A broken sword pierced his shoulder, making him turn to Marcus in anger.

"I always hated you, Viktor," Marcus said with spite. Viktor was the one who had locked William in a cage. At the same time, he knew the fox wasn't joking about destroying the building.

Lucian watched them both, his brow raised in anticipation, as if watching a show.

Marcus was about to rush forward to Viktor when a gunshot rang out, shooting Marcus in the head and body.

*Bang* *Bang* *Bang* *Bang*

"Now this has become much more interesting," Lucian whispered as he looked towards Selene, who had just entered the chamber.

"No, don't kill him!" Viktor shouted, his voice hoarse. Even though Marcus had injured him and wanted to kill him,

Viktor always believes that Marcus couldn't die thinking if Marcus died the vampire race will die as well.

Selene stopped shooting, walking closer with two guns in her hand, pointing them at Marcus and Lucian.

"My dear daughter, you arrive just right in time. We need to kill this pest before we trap Marcus back to his coffin," Viktor said, looking at Selene as he pulled out the broken sword from his shoulder, his gaze now fixed on Lucian.

Lucian shook his head, seeing this. He started to step forward, not afraid of either of them.

"I've given you a chance," he whispered.

Selene looked at Marcus before turning to Lucian, hearing his words. Then, she turned back to Viktor.

"Is it true?"

Viktor frowned, not knowing what Selene was asking.

"Is it true you're the one that killed my family, and not the Lycans?!" Selene shouted, seeing Viktor's unresponsive stare. She needed answers, she needed to find out the truth.

""It's not time for this nonsense Selene! We need to hurry!" Viktor shouted, his voice a strained rasp. He didn't know how Selene had figured it out, but he saw Marcus regenerating from the gunshots. They were running out of time.

His words, however, only further irritated her, fueling the flames of her anger. She shot him in the leg, the sound of the gunshot echoing in the chamber.

*Bang*

"Answer me!" Selene shouted, her voice a raw, furious cry. The pain of betrayal, the weight of the truth, was crushing. She already had a feeling that what the masked man had said was true. She needed confirmation, she needed to hear it from his lips.

"I have given you something more precious than them, immortality," Viktor snarled towards Selene, his voice laced with anger. He almost knelt, the gunshot wound in his leg throbbing.

Selene's eyes widened, hearing his words. She lowered her gun, a flicker of doubt crossing her face. Seeing this, Viktor's eyes lit up, his hope reignited. He thought, for a moment, that she was swayed by his words. But then, a gunshot rang out, shattering his hope and catching him surprise.

*Bang* *Bang* *Bang*

Viktor took a step back as the bullets hit him in the chest and shoulders, his body jolting with the impact. He looked at Selene in disbelief, his eyes wide with shock and betrayal.

But it wasn't over. A figure appeared behind him. Lucian, swift and deadly, lashed out with his energy blade, the blue light cutting through the air. The energy blade sliced across Viktor's neck, severing his head. The head rolled to the floor, eyes still wide with disbelief, a grim testament to Viktor's arrogance and Selene's defiance.

Lucian, his gaze cold and unflinching, looked at Viktor's head before turning to look at Selene, who was still pointing her gun at him. Her finger was trembling, her face etched with a mixture of shock and confusion..

Selene's body was tense, her mind swirling with confusion, anger, and disbelief. It all began because of the man in front of her. 'No, maybe a boy,' she thought, considering her guess. Yet, she kept her finger on the trigger, ready to shoot.

"Who are you?" she asked, wanting to confirm if it was the kid in her mind.

Lucian tilted his head. Just when he was about to answer, he suddenly looked towards the side, as Marcus had moved.

Marcus had healed, the vampire's regeneration kicking in, as Viktor's head rolled on the floor. He saw Viktor's face full of disbelief, and though he didn't move at first, he looked around, his bony eyes taking in the scene.

He noticed Viktor's body was close to the fox, his mind racing. He knew he didn't have the chance to get the key. He didn't dare bet that the masked man wouldn't just kill him. So, Marcus focused on Selene, making a decision. He rose up, speeding towards her, his bony claws slashing at her stomach as he rushed out of the elder chamber.

Selene held her side as she shot at Marcus, hitting him in the back. But Marcus kept running, disappearing out of the elder chamber.

Selene knelt on the floor, her body starting to weaken. The pain from the wound, combined with the blood loss, was taking its toll. She felt a wave of dizziness wash over her, her vision blurring.

Just when Lucian was about to chase after Marcus, Raizo's voice rang out from his earpiece.

[We've got a problem] Raizo's voice contained no emotion, showing the seriousness of the situation.

"What is it?" Lucian asked, pressing the side of his mask as he looked at Selene, who was still pointing her gun at him even in her weakened state.

[The soldiers you wanted to follow are here]

Lucian frowned, hearing this, before ordering Raizo.

"Go, contact Kim Yoo-ri. We're leaving," Lucian said as he walked towards Selene, getting her attention. Her vision was blurring, but she kept pointing her gun at him.

"Well, well, well, do you need help?" Lucian asked teasingly, not caring about the gun pointed at him as he knelt in front of her.

Selene looked at the masked man in front of her. Her vision blurred. She wanted to raise her gun, but then she let go of it, raising her hand instead. She pulled Lucian's mask off, finally seeing his face.

"It's you," Selene said, a smile playing on her lips as she caressed his cheek. It was the only thing she had gotten right that day, and it brought a small smile to her face as she passed out.

"What am I going to do with you?" Lucian asked himself, catching Selene as she fainted while he looked at her face.
