"Don't space out. Walk faster." Amamiya turned to look at Komi. "I need to copy your ability."
"Copy…?"
Confusion flickered in Komi's eyes.
Sajuna leaned in and whispered, "He just wants to hold your hand."
Komi: "...!!!"
The black-haired girl stiffened in panic, her gaze darting to Chika, silently pleading for help.
Though she rarely spoke to others, she wasn't foolish. Traveling together and observing their interactions had already revealed the group's hierarchy to her.
Amamiya was the undisputed leader of the team.
Sajuna… No doubt the mascot, whose opinions carried no weight.
Chika, however, was like the team's manager, the only one capable of "admonishing" Amamiya.
If anyone could intervene, it had to be her.
Holding hands with a boy was unthinkable—too frightening!
"Don't worry, Komi-san," Chika said with a bright smile. "I'm here."
"Phew..."
Komi let out a small breath of relief, her heart, which had been pounding in her chest, beginning to settle.
If Chika promised to protect her, surely she would follow through... right?
But in the next moment—
Chika continued cheerfully, "Just hold hands for five minutes. When the time's up, he'll let go immediately."
Komi: "…"
Why, why, why?
Why does it have to be me?!
Her hands trembled as fear took hold, but when she tried to protest, her words caught in her throat. Her communication disorder struck, leaving her speechless.
Chika, still smiling, tilted her head playfully. "If you don't say anything, I'll take that as your agreement?"
"…"
Komi frantically shook her head.
No! Absolutely not!
"This is a special situation," Amamiya stated firmly, his tone brooking no argument. "I have an ability that allows me to copy the skills of others."
"Every advantage matters in the face of danger, no matter how small."
Komi's skills might not be useful, but missing the opportunity to copy them could lead to regret. In situations involving ghost stories, there was no room for half-measures.
To drive his point home, Amamiya opened his skill panel, revealing an impressive list:
- [Don, You Are Under Arrest]
- [Lie Down and Become Stronger]
- [Touch of Destiny]
- [Evil Spirit Repellent Aura (Sealed)]
- [Advanced Vision Eyes]
- [Psychic Constitution]
- [Foodie Light]
- [Sheep Transformation Technique]
- [Role Play]
- [Shadow Cat]
- …
The sheer variety of skills left Komi wide-eyed with disbelief.
"So many..."
Even Sajuna couldn't help but gasp softly in amazement.
After joining the player mutual aid group, Komi quickly realized that many players these days lacked noteworthy skills. That made the sight before her even more astonishing—Amamiya's vast array of abilities.
At first glance, his skill set seemed extensive, but most were one-time-use skills he had copied. These could only be stored temporarily and would vanish after being used. Even unused, they would gradually fade over time. Despite these limitations, the sheer quantity was impressive.
"I like to call the skill 'Touch of Fate: Copy and Paste,'" Amamiya explained. "In simple terms, it allows me to copy someone's skills and transfer them to someone else."
"Komi-san, that Evil Spirit Repellent Aura is super handy," Chika chimed in cheerfully. "Once you clear the game, you should ask Amamiya-kun to give you one. If there are any evil spirits at home, you can cleanse the room thoroughly!"
Wait, how did it suddenly turn into a housekeeping skill?!
Kaguya turned her gaze to Komi, her curiosity piqued. "What kind of skills does Komi-san have?"
"It's a paper painting ability."
Before Amamiya could respond, his secretary eagerly stepped in, offering an elaborate explanation of Komi's skill.
After hearing the details, Kaguya instantly recognized its strategic value.
"…It should definitely be copied," she said decisively.
Take their current situation, for instance. If they had been able to communicate using this skill from the start, she could have contacted Amamiya for help instead of abandoning Umi and escaping to find others.
---
Understanding the necessity of the situation, Komi silently relented.
After all, she was the type of girl who had once mustered the courage to stand up to Amamiya. Her kind heart wouldn't let her refuse.
The five minutes passed in the blink of an eye.
After finishing with Kaguya and Chika, Amamiya turned to Komi. "Now, give me your hand."
"…"
Komi's body tensed, trembling slightly as she hesitantly stretched out her right hand.
Why are you shaking so much?
Come on, you're a high school girl—it's just holding hands! Even Kaguya knows it's not like you'll get pregnant from this!
Without hesitation, Amamiya took Komi's hand.
Wait a minute.
Why is it a little wet?
Komi's entire body stiffened. Her face flushed scarlet, red to the tips of her ears. She lowered her head in panic as if steam were rising from her.
Amamiya's fingers moved slightly, brushing the palm of her hand.
"Ugh!!"
Komi's eyes shot open in shock. She jerked her head up, staring at Amamiya with a mix of panic and confusion.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Chika asked, tilting her head curiously.
Komi shook her head furiously, signaling that everything was fine.
"Sorry," Amamiya said apologetically, his tone softening. "I got carried away for a moment."
How nervous are you that your palms are this sweaty?
"Don't stop," Amamiya ordered calmly. "Let's keep going."
Komi silently obeyed, keeping her head lowered as she let Amamiya lead her forward.
Amamiya couldn't help but think that if he were to sell this black-haired, straight-laced girl, she likely wouldn't even utter a sound of protest.
Before long, the group arrived at a building.
"This is the hotel," Kaguya announced, coming to a stop.
"Perfect timing," Amamiya said, releasing Komi's hand.
Startled, the black-haired girl quickly clasped her hands to her chest as though they were burning. Then, flustered by the perceived warmth in her palms, she dropped them in a panic. Her helpless demeanor was almost pitiable.
Turning to Sajuna, the pink-haired girl standing beside him, Amamiya gave a calm instruction: "Sajuna, you and Komi-san stay outside and wait for us."
"Huh?" Sajuna blinked in confusion, tilting her head. "Why aren't we going in with you?"
"You have something else to handle," Amamiya replied, taking a mysterious cassette tape from Chika's hands. It had yet to be submitted, and to ensure everyone's safety, he added, "The task of dealing with the Narrator will fall to you."
Sajuna, not one to argue, nodded seriously as she accepted the tape. "Understood. Leave it to me."
"Thanks." With that, Amamiya shifted his gaze to Kaguya. "Let's go inside."
"Hm." Kaguya gave a slight nod. "The door just needs to be pushed open."
During their walk, she had already shared all the information she'd managed to gather about the hotel.
Amamiya studied the building across the street, taking a deep breath before stepping forward.
The night was shrouded in darkness, with only a faint glow of candlelight seeping through the hotel windows.
At first glance, the scene looked warm and inviting—almost like a safe haven in the cold night. But Amamiya knew better. This was no sanctuary. It was a carefully laid trap, designed to lure its victims straight into a deadly web.
A place like this, steeped in sinister energy, needed to be dealt with swiftly and decisively!
