Chapter 98: 98 Too Powerful!
The entrance theme aLIEz comes from an original anime that tells the story of a human scientist who, after conducting lunar research, discovers a teleportation array on the moon that sends people to Mars. There, they gain control of a mysterious power called Aldnoah, a unique energy technology capable of creating superhuman-like abilities, even predicting the future.
The one who mastered this power was Rayregalia Vers Rayvers. He used it to establish a nation on Mars, creating a feudal empire known as the Vers Empire.
This power was hereditary, and only Rayregalia and his descendants could control it. Because of this familial, aristocratic rule, the empire became entirely dependent on the royal family.
But the reality wasn't so perfect. Rayregalia's son, the second emperor, declared war on Earth due to Mars' scarce resources. However, an explosion in the lunar teleportation array killed him, forcing both Earth and Mars to cease fighting.
More than a decade later, the noble knights reignited the war. This entrance theme plays in the first episode when the landing castles of the Martian noble knights descend from space-like meteors, causing a nuclear-like explosion upon impact.
That's why this song is known as the Nuclear Explosion Anthem.
Using something akin to a voice-changing device, Altair transformed his voice to closely match the original singer and performed the song in the recording studio.
Piece by piece, Altair combined the fragmented recordings using his recording equipment, perfectly recreating his version of aLIEz. He then uploaded the track to his skill.
[Track detected. Now under review.]
Altair couldn't help but laugh at how the notification window resembled a computer program. Thankfully, the so-called review didn't take long... just five seconds.
[Review complete. After review, the similarity to Hiroyuki Sawano's aLIEz is 95%. The corresponding special buff can be triggered.]
"Alright, let's see what kind of buff this Nuclear Explosion Anthem grants."
Altair quickly clicked the button to view the buff.
[Nuclear Entrance!:1
This BGM cannot be used under normal circumstances. It can only be triggered when launching the first strike. Under the effects of this BGM, the power of your first attack in the battle is increased by 500%, causing widespread fire damage within a certain radius based on your strength attribute. This attack deals indiscriminate damage within the area and inspires surviving allies, greatly enhancing their strength attribute for a short period.]
"Whoa, this buff is insane!"
A 500% power boost! Given Altair's current base strength at level 3, with this buff, his attack strength would probably reach level 5, maybe even level 6! And the skill even buffs teammates, though with a catch.
"But this support skill is a bit messed up. The attack causes indiscriminate damage, even to my allies. Only those who survive the attack can receive the buff. Couldn't they have at least made allies immune to the damage?"
"I'll probably end up severely injuring Saeko with one strike!"
After reviewing the buff's details, Altair decided that this skill could only be used when he was alone or when Saeko was far enough away to avoid collateral damage.
It was supposed to be a buff, but in Altair's eyes, it was essentially a burst skill... perfect for taking out opponents in one explosive move at the start of a fight.
This BGM skill was impressive. Despite being just one skill, the buff effects tied to the BGM could essentially create new abilities. That meant changing the BGM could unlock different skills. The potential for this skill was immense!
Excited by the possibilities, Altair immediately pulled Hestia into more creative sessions.
He started by recording several of Hiroyuki Sawano's tracks.
One of these was the counterattack anthem from the same anime. It always played when the protagonist launched a solo counterattack after being ambushed.
[Counterattack Has Begun!:1
This BGM cannot be used under normal circumstances. It can only be triggered after an enemy's first strike. Under the effects of this BGM, your magic and agility attributes are increased by 100%. However, all teammates are forced into an observer state. They cannot attack the enemy but can still be attacked.]
"Damn, this is the classic main character shows off solo moment, while everyone else just stands there watching. Very true to the original story. Yet another skill to use cautiously in group settings."
Next was the sword-drawing anthem βίος, one of Sawano's iconic tracks from Guilty Crown. It played when the protagonist drew a sword from a girl's chest to fight his enemies.
[Maiden Embrace:1
This BGM cannot be used under normal circumstances. It can only be triggered when holding a girl under 18 years old. Under the effects of this BGM, your strength and dexterity attributes are increased by 100%, and the girl will be forced into unconsciousness.]
"Alright then… Fits the original setting, I suppose. But this 'It can only be triggered when holding a girl under 18 years old' part... well…"
Altair couldn't help but shake his head as he thought about how to carry a girl under 18 years old into battle.
Plus, this buff could function as an instant kill against any enemy who happened to be a young girl. Just grab her, trigger the BGM, and she'll pass out instantly. It could even be used to determine her age!
Next was Perfect Time, the broken sword anthem from The Seven Deadly Sins, which played during the male protagonist's defining moments.
[Undying Spirit:1
This BGM cannot be used under normal circumstances. It is automatically bound to your primary weapon. It can only be triggered after your main weapon is broken. Under the effects of this BGM, your strength attribute is increased by 200%.]
"Finally! A buff without any downsides! Unfortunately, the conditions for use are too strict. It's bound to my main weapon, the Beam Saber. I'm not about to break my sword on purpose just to trigger this buff, but it could come in handy as a last resort."
Thinking of last-resort situations, Altair recalled a famous BGM, though this one wasn't by Sawano.
It came from Fairy Tail and was a legendary comeback theme. Unlike the previous counterattack track, this one always played when the protagonists were on the verge of defeat. Then they'd shout, "Because we're Fairy Tail!" and instantly wipe out their enemies. It was absurd.
[Because We Have Plot Armor!:1
This BGM cannot be used under normal circumstances. It can only be triggered when you are at a significant disadvantage. Under the effects of this BGM, you will first be restored to peak condition, then all your attributes will be increased by 300%. You also enter an invincible state for 5 seconds and cannot be killed by any attacks. This skill can only be used once per week. After the buff ends, your condition will return to what it was before activation.]
"Damn! A literal plot armor buff! But it only lasts 5 seconds, and the cooldown is pretty long... once a week. Still, this could be a game-changer in the final moments."
Now the question was, what exactly qualified as a significant disadvantage? A 10,000-to-1 scenario?
