Chapter 679: For the future
"Seara didn't mention that, but…" Rain said, and then he recalled something.
There were those rich in mana coral stones that Rain had taken from the sea dragon's base… he could use that, but he probably needed to take more from their territory. At the same time, Rain recalled instruments that were made of stone… and probably could be made using corals as well.
Rain recalled ocarinas. Ocarinas were small, egg-shaped wind instruments made of stone. These instruments had a rich history in cultures from Earth, including ancient Mesoamerican and Chinese societies. Ocarinas were often used in rituals, celebrations, and storytelling.
Some cultures have also crafted flutes and pipes from stone, utilizing their natural acoustic properties. These stone flutes were often used in folk music, storytelling, and rituals. The precision in crafting these instruments was a testament to the skill and artistry of the people who created them.
"I am really following through this plan, huh?" Rain thought.
Rain was a bit surprising since that didn't seem like the usual approach… then again, it was necessary. The raging Phoenix became an army that was tough and could face larger groups of enemies, but they were still a weak force compared to dragons. They couldn't keep losing numbers either with every battle.
After returning home, Rain began to use those mana-reached corals and made some flutes with them. They were a thing in that world, while ocarinas had never been used there…
"What an uncultured world," Rain thought when he finished the first flute.

"Not bad. I can keep leveling up this skill while I keep making more flutes," Rain thought.
As Rain worked on his crafting and hummed a simple tune, his wives couldn't help but exchange confused glances. It was unusual to see Rain in such a calm and focused state. Normally, in situations like this, he would be brainstorming some wild and unconventional ideas that often led to thrilling or innovative creations.
However, at this moment, Rain's current project seemed notably straightforward compared to his usual actions. The simplicity of it all raised an unspoken question among his wives: What was he up to, and what had sparked this serene and straightforward approach to his work? It was a mystery that left them both intrigued and slightly bewildered.
In the end, Rain tested the flutes and confirmed that they increased the range of Rain's sound magic and their effectiveness as well… but he could only make ten of those.
"I guess it is time to max out my Thief's path," Rain thought. "I can make thousands of flutes with all those corals in the sea dragon base," Rain thought.
Just five hundred would be enough to have spares for the spares, but as usual, Rain was thinking on massive scales… in any case, a couple of days later, Seadir arrived with twenty or so sea folk. Those were the guys who were willing to help the Raging Phoenix.
"You are working fast," Rain said.
"Hahaha, the competition on my end decreased, so I am trying to improve my ranking," Seadir laughed.
Considering his words, Seadir wanted to become the sea emperor eventually, but his pops looked like he still could work on his throne for a couple more hundred years… so both of them had a long road ahead of them.
"Anyway, are you going to teach them sound magic?" Seadir asked.
"That is the idea," Rain said. "For now, I only know how to boost the strength with a certain sound, but as they level up and unlock the bard path, they should be able to obtain more techniques that have similar effects."
"I see… By the way, Father sent those to you. When he heard about what you were doing, he assumed that it would come in handy to save time," Seadir said, and then he put some bags on the ground.
Rain found a bunch more of coral stones that he had used to make the flutes… it wasn't surprising that Seadrei had them since the coral spears were basically made of the same thing.
"I guess Gramps is also looking to the near future," Rain said while nodding. "All right, let's start." Stay tuned with My Virtual Library Empire
The sea folk were quite skilled and had high dexterity, so they didn't take long to learn how to use flutes. Using them to improve their magic abilities and control the water in the air was easy, too… the problem started when they tried to combine magic with playing the instrument.
Doing both at the same time was hard even for people as skilled as them, but Rain had already prepared for situations like that, so he split the training into sessions. Infusing a little less mana at a time in order to get used to the feeling. Thanks to that, they eventually made progress, even though the effects of their songs was weak.
Still, it was quite something to hear that sound from so many flutes… it was a boss battle theme, after all.
