In Fairy Tail, starts with a Super Mega Gengar

Chapter 72: Chapter 72: The Failed Assassination Duo

Magnolia Town.

Inside the Fairy Tail Guild Headquarters, Makarov, seated at the bar reading a newspaper, suddenly sensed something.

He looked up to see the Pidgey that Gaal had left before he departed flying in and landing on the bar.

Makarov put down his newspaper: "Pidgey, is it, did you spot any suspicious people?"

He then activated the Mental Communication Magic Gaal had left behind, and Pidgey's calls transformed into a clear voice: "Two people have come into the woods, they plan to ambush the children from the Guild on the eastern forest's hill."

Makarov's expression grew serious: "An ambush? Are they using magical firearms?"

Pidgey tilted its head, slightly confused: "Not sure, they both are carrying long boxes on their backs."

Makarov nodded, confirming his suspicions: "Seems so."

Such weapons do exist on the Ishgar Continent, but most are brought over by wandering mages from the Western Continent.

Due to their complex maintenance, they're usually kept in boxes or spatial storage, only brought out for battles.

Looking out the window towards the eastern forest, he frowned: "Such a long distance...."

He hadn't heard of any magical firearms capable of effective action from such a range.

Makarov pondered for a moment, then looked down at the Pidgey on the bar: "I understand, please continue to watch them quietly, I'll send someone right away."

Pidgey nodded and flew out once more.

Makarov thought for a moment and called over Ur, who was teaching a group of children.

Since resolving misunderstandings and clearing the air with her daughter Ultear, Ur had been enjoying her time at the guild, sharing the joy of teaching the children.

As Ur approached, she greeted: "Guild Master Makarov."

Makarov, a bit exasperated, waved his hand: "No need to be so formal, Ur, I just received some news. In the eastern forest, two individuals with magical firearms plan to ambush our Guild's children, I need you to apprehend them."

Ur's expression changed, her tone hinting at anger: "Ambush children? These Dark Guilds have no low they won't sink to, leave it to me."

These Dark Guilds never cease to amaze; kidnapping children for experiments, building the R-System, and now unable to face us directly, they want to assassinate our Guild's children.

Makarov nodded and instructed: "Leave through the Guild's back door and circle around from the lake, I'll distract them at the Guild's entrance."

Makarov swiftly coordinated and parted ways with Ur, each to their own tasks.

Ur exited through the back, making her way to the lake, where she submerged and swam through the waterway to sneak outside the town.

Makarov, on the other hand, set up a lounge chair under a small tree at the Guild's entrance, as if taking a nap.

A moment later.

On the hill in the eastern forest.

Two mages from a Dark Guild from the Western Continent had found a suitable sniping location.

Jeremy, the short-haired mage, was preparing the sniping setup when Becker, the long-haired mage equipped with a telescope, let out a curious "hmm."

Jeremy opened his box, retrieving the firearm inside: "What is it?"

Becker's lips curled into a smile as he spoke: "Seems Lady Luck is on our side, the Fairy Tail Guild Master, Makarov Dreyar, is napping right outside their guild entrance. Imagine taking him down with one shot, making a name for ourselves as the ones who killed a Ten Wizard Saint. Our assassination services would be in high demand."

Jeremy arched an eyebrow, shouldering the magical firearm, and looked through his own telescope.

Sure enough, Makarov was dozing in a lounge chair under a small tree near the entrance.

Jeremy felt a rush of excitement but suppressed it, pausing to voice concern: "Not a good idea, Makarov is an S-Class Mage, a Ten Wizard Saint of the Ishgar Continent. Are you sure one shot could take him down? If we fail, we'll be the ones biting the dust, let's stick to the client's plan and target a few of those promising kids."

Becker, though reluctant, eyed the sleeping Makarov with longing: "But he's a Ten Wizard Saint.... Killing him would make us legends across the Continent. This is the Empire's latest magical firearm, potent enough to pierce the skull of an A-Class Magical Beast like the Rampaging Lion. Even 'Judge' Wall Eehto has praised its power. Makarov's head can't be tougher than an A-Class beast's skull, right?"

Jeremy frowned, insisting: "Becker, don't mess around, mages who reach S-Class aren't easily taken down."

Becker grumbled, though a bit dissatisfied: "So what? Everyone dies eventually; I'd just be expediting his journey."

Muttering a few more words, Becker finally relented: "Fine, we'll do it your way, we'll take out a couple of the kids and let Makarov, the famous Saint, feel some heartbreak."

Feeling relieved, Jeremy was truly worried Becker might decide to assassinate Makarov on impulse.

Their Magic Talent wasn't particularly great; reaching A-Class was a stretch. If the shot didn't kill Makarov and he retaliated, what chance would they stand?

That was a Ten Wizard Saint, one of Ishgar's strongest.

Who knew what sort of magical developments or peculiar effects they might manifest at that level?

There had been precedents of someone attempting an assassination with a magical sniping rifle, only for their target's head to turn elemental as the bullet passed through, rendering the weapon useless.

That assassin had reportedly met with a dreadful fate....

Jeremy had no intention of following in those footsteps. Compared to the peril of gunning for a Ten Wizard Saint's glory, taking out a few kids, collecting pay, and retreating sounded much more reasonable.

Suddenly, Jeremy's pupils narrowed to pinpricks.

Clatter—

His gun slipped from his hands, droplets of sweat pouring down his forehead, and he dared not move.

Becker, squatting on the ground, was assembling his disassembled firearm.

Hearing the noise behind him, he turned with a mocking grin: "Jeremy, if you can't even hold your gun steady, you don't deserve to be my partner...."

Clatter—

Becker dropped his firearm as well.

The woman gazing at them without expression was instantly recognizable: one of their targets, the S-Class Ice Mage, Ur....

Becker's lip twitched, sweat flowing in streams, awkwardly raising his right hand for a greeting: "Uh...."

His left hand suddenly darted to his waist, face contorting: "Just die...."

Crackle crackle crackle crackle—!!!

Ice instantly surged, creating a vivid sculpture in Jeremy's sight. Beck's hand never even reached the explosive he carried before he was completely frozen....

More than half the hillside lay under frost. Ur exhaled a chilly breath, turning her attention to Jeremy: "What about you?"

Jeremy offered no resistance, raising his hands high: "I surrender."

He's regretting his life choices....

How did she get so close? This near....

Fiore Kingdom, Northern Region.

City of Winedale.

Winedale is located in the northern part of Fiore, set amidst expansive plains, serving as a crucial hub connecting all northern cities in the Kingdom.

After several days of tracking, Gaal had eliminated six known Dark Guilds within Fiore, leaving two remaining with traces thoroughly wiped clean.

Even after summoning Arcanine for aid, he only managed to track to Winedale before losing the trail entirely.

Deciding to take a break there, Gaal entered the city, intent on both resting and gathering intelligence.

Upon entering,

Gaal hired a carriage to head to Kelman Auction House, intending to sell some magical tools.

Inside Kelman Auction House.

Appraiser Freeman was lounging, lethargic and yawning continuously in his office.

A knock on the door broke the monotony: "Appraiser Freeman, a mage named Gaal Brons says he has a big consignment and requests your personal assessment."

Freeman snapped to attention, instantly energized: "Did you say Gaal Brons? Quick! Show him to the VIP room! Get me a comprehensive list of all the unusual materials in stock, and bring it ASAP!"
