Chapter 49: Chapter 49 - True Name Release!

Chapter 49 - True Name Release!

Once, Kaname Tōsen was merely a commoner in Rukongai, having few friends due to his blindness.

In such circumstances, Kakyō became his only close friend and the goddess-like figure in his heart.

Tōsen believed that their peaceful life would continue forever, but Kakyō chose to become a Shinigami and married the youngest member of the Kōga clan, Tokinada Tsunayashiro.

Later, Kakyō was killed by the psychopathic Tokinada Tsunayashiro over a minor marital quarrel.

Despite his heinous act, Tokinada Tsunayashiro was exempted from any criminal punishment due to his noble status and was released after a superficial interrogation.

Upon his release, Tokinada Tsunayashiro saw Tōsen standing guard outside, his perverse nature took over, and he humiliated and brutally beat Tōsen, ordering the guards to kill the gravely injured Tōsen.

In his moment of despair, awaiting death, Aizen appeared.

Aizen killed all the guards on the scene and helped Tōsen to his feet, saying, "I have a proposal. Would you like to entrust your overflowing hatred to me for now?"

From that moment on, Aizen became Tōsen's salvation.

This past, apart from the involved parties, had been buried deep in Tōsen's heart, never revealed to anyone, not even Gin.

Naturally, Kakyō remained buried deep within Tōsen's heart.

Yet, Tōsen never forgot Kakyō nor his own hatred.

He once swore before Kakyō's body, "If justice is not enough, then let me become justice and eliminate all evil in this world like clouds."

After his vow, Tōsen took up Kakyō's Zanpakutō, Suzumushi, which had reverted to an Asauchi upon her death. He infused it with his own spiritual pressure, transforming it into his own Zanpakutō.

However, Tōsen did not change its name; it remained 'Suzumushi.'

This was to constantly remind himself of his hatred.

Now, hearing Gilgamesh mention his deeply buried memory of Kakyō, Tōsen couldn't help but be moved.

It had been nearly a century since Kakyō's death, and Tōsen couldn't fathom how the twelve-year-old Gilgamesh could know about it.

Moreover, Gilgamesh didn't just know about Kakyō; he knew about the hatred from back then.

As if compelled by some supernatural force, Tōsen couldn't help but ask, "I want revenge, but how?"

Tōsen, now the Captain of the Ninth Division in the Gotei 13, was already part of the power center of the Seireitei.

But the closer he got to the center of power, the more he realized how ugly the true face of the Seireitei was, and how much evil it hid.

In such a Seireitei, it was impossible to seek fair and just retribution against Tokinada Tsunayashiro.

In the face of one of the Four Great Noble Clans, he, a mere captain from Rukongai, was insignificant.

Thus, Tōsen placed his hope for revenge on Aizen.

He believed that once Aizen's plan succeeded, an ideal world would come.

Originally, Tōsen thought this way.

But now, for some reason, hope surged within him again.

Gilgamesh spoke, "Conquer the Soul Society, change the Soul Society, create a new nation without nobles, where everyone is equal, judge all evil, and expose all darkness!"

Gilgamesh's voice, though youthful, carried an unyielding resolve, like a child's unrealistic ambition.

But to Tōsen, it sounded like a resounding bell, shaking his heart.

This was not just because Gilgamesh's words carried inherent authority, making them convincing.

It was also because Gilgamesh's vision aligned with Aizen's goals.

Aizen detested the constraints of fate and the rules of the Soul Society, refusing to be bound, wanting to completely overhaul the flawed structure and governance of the Soul Society.

However, while Gilgamesh envisioned creating a new nation, Aizen aspired to transcend the Spirit King and become the one true god.

Crack!

The sound of shattering glass abruptly snapped Tōsen back to reality.

Before he could react, a golden ripple appeared, followed by a golden shield shaped like a butterfly's wings emerging from it.

Clang!

A metallic clash resounded.

In Tōsen's mind's eye, he saw Gin's Shinsō colliding with the shield of the gods.

The shield was incredibly sturdy, and even Shinsō couldn't penetrate it, forcing Gin to retract it quickly.

"Shall I deal with him?"

A calm male voice suddenly spoke, drawing Tōsen's attention.

Looking towards the source, Tōsen saw the black cat in Gilgamesh's arms, leaning out and coldly gazing at Gin standing in the void.

A talking cat!?

Tōsen was stunned, his face filled with disbelief.

Not only that, but Tōsen also sensed danger emanating from the black cat.

This fact left Tōsen's mind in turmoil.

A cat made him feel threatened—had the world gone mad, or was he losing his mind?

Yoruichi paid no mind to Tōsen.

She knew that Gilgamesh had deliberately allowed Tōsen to breach the Vimana's barrier.

Through the subsequent conversation, Yoruichi understood that Gilgamesh intended to recruit Tōsen.

Though Yoruichi disliked and disdained Tōsen, she trusted Gilgamesh's judgment and silently supported him.

As for Gin, Yoruichi had noticed him the moment he launched his first attack.

Initially, she ignored him, but seeing that his Shinsō could penetrate the Vimana's barrier on the second attempt, she intervened to prevent any disruption to Gilgamesh's plan.

Gilgamesh gently shook his head, "No need, I will handle it myself."

As he spoke, the Vimana turned, positioning Gilgamesh to face Gin directly.

Gin's eyes narrowed slightly.

At that moment, a golden ripple appeared beside Gilgamesh's right hand.

Under the watchful eyes of Yoruichi, Gin, and Tōsen, a uniquely shaped spiral sword emerged from the ripple.

Yoruichi's heart trembled slightly—another weapon she had never seen before.

She didn't doubt its power, given the examples of Ig-Alima and Enkidu.

Gin, seeing this, hesitated slightly before raising his Shinsō again, preparing to strike.

Gilgamesh had already raised the spiral sword, aiming it at Gin. He began to speak, "This sword is called the Spiral Sword, a magical sword from Celtic mythology."

"Legend has it that this sword was forged by the elves of the divine realm, imbued with the mighty power of the thunder god."

"Later generations believed it to be one of the prototype swords of King Arthur's Excalibur."

"Kaname Tōsen, feel this—the tip of my strength."

"True Name Release…"

"Caladbolg!"
