Chapter 708: Artifact Used
The wall crumbled like brittle stone under the push. Shards of metal and energy-infused debris exploded outward as they crashed into the next chamber, a darkened control room filled with glowing screens and flickering holograms.
Laston staggered, his metal boots skidding across the floor as he barely regained his footing. But Aerchon was relentless and he don't want to stop.
Without hesitation he swung again, his sword moving through the air like a streak of fast silver light.
Laston managed to block that with ease, his cybernetic arm taking the brunt of the impact but the sheer force of the blow sent tremors up his limb.
"You're a fool, kid," Laston said, his voice sounded calm but also laced with irritation. "Fighting against this new kind of power will only lead to your downfall."
Aerchon didn't respond with words. He pressed forward, his attack coming faster and each of that attack become more precise and ruthless. As if Aerchon just pouring his anger into Laston.
Laston was forced on the defensive now. He dodging and countering, but it looks like that he couldn't match the raw fury in Aerchon's attacks.
On that room, the battle against Eryndor raged on. The construct had fully adapted to their tactics, its mechanical frame shifting with eerie fluidity.
Saeldir and the others struggled to find an opening as it continued to repel their attacks with increasing efficiency.
"Enough of this!" Saeldir growled, frustration boiling over.
He raised his hands, channeling a surge of raw Magical power. Runes blazed to life around him, forming a massive rune circle beneath Eryndor's feet.
"If we can't break through its defenses then I'll tear them apart!"
The floor trembled as chains of pure energy erupted from the rune and lashing onto Eryndor's limbs with renewed power. This time, they did not merely bind, they constricted with crushing power, the runes pulsing with the might of a high-tier spell.
Eryndor's body convulsed as the energy tore into his armor, causing some of his plates to crack under the pressure. But instead of struggling, his eyes flashed with an ominous glow.
"New data acquired," he intoned in a mechanical voice. "Countermeasure initiated."
A pulse of black energy exploded from his core which located somewhere inside his chest. The bindings shattered and before anyone could react Eryndor's arm morphed into a massive energy cannon.
The air crackled with volatile power as he fired a devastating blast straight at Saeldir.
Saeldir barely had time to erect a barrier before the attack collided. The force was immense it sending him skidding back, his feet carving deep grooves into the metal floor. His shield held but only barely.
"Damn it," he muttered through gritted teeth. "This thing just won't go down!"
Vael loosed another arrow, aiming for a newly exposed joint in Eryndor's armor. The shot his the target piercing through the plating but instead of staggering, Eryndor simply recalibrated, his body repairing the damage within seconds.
Arlyn coughed, pushing himself up from where he had landed. His body ached, but he refused to let this battle end in failure. He glanced toward Aerchon, who was still locked in fierce combat with Laston outside of the room. They had to end this quickly. They can't win.
Sylra reappeared at his side, her gaze sharp. "We need a new approach," she said. "This thing keeps adapting so we have to think of something!"
Saeldir's barrier flickered and sparked, barely holding as he gritted his teeth. His gaze swept over the others, taking in their injuries. They were waiting for his command.
"Use the artifact," Saeldir ordered. "Activate all of yours. We don't know if another metal construct will appear, so be ready."
Arlyn, Vael, and Sylra didn't waste a second. Each of them reached into their gear, pulling out a cube-like artifact made of crystal. Without hesitation, they poured their Magic into it, the artifacts responding instantly. The runes glowed brighter, pulsating with power.
"Throw one at him," Saeldir commanded.
"I'll do it," Arlyn said, his grip tightening around the cube. Without waiting, he hurled it straight at Eryndor.
Eryndor reacted instantly. His mechanical body shifted, his plating adjusting as he moved to block the incoming artifact with his massive arm. But the moment the cube made contact, it activated.
A burst of energy exploded outward, engulfing Eryndor in a brilliant pulse of Magical force. The impact sent shockwaves through the room, causing the ground and the panel around them to tremble violently.
Eryndor's mechanical frame spasmed. His glowing eyes flickered erratically, and for the first time, he staggered.
The energy surged through his body disrupting his systems. Sparks erupted from his joints as his limbs twitched uncontrollably, his entire form jerking as if an unseen force had overridden his functions.
"Critical—malfunction—detected—" Eryndor's voice crackled and distorted.
His armor plates tried to realign, his runes flaring desperately in an attempt to counteract the artifact's effects. But the energy continued to surge through him, severing his control over his own body.
"It's working!" Vael shouted.
Sylra didn't hesitate. She vanished in a blur and reappeared behind Eryndor, driving her daggers deep into one of the weakened joints exposed by the artifact's disruption.
Arlyn followed suit, slashing at the vulnerable sections, his twin blades striking true this time, carving through the damaged metal.
Eryndor shuddered, his body convulsing as the damage accumulated. His glowing eyes dimmed for a brief moment.
Then suddenly his entire frame locked in place.
For one second, silence filled the chamber.
Then, a deafening surge of energy erupted from his core.
The artifact's power clashed violently with the runes engraved into his metal body. The conflicting forces spiraled out of control, causing his core to overload.
A high-pitched mechanical screech tore through the air as cracks formed along his armor.
"Warning—System—Fail—"
With one final pulse, Eryndor's form crumbled inward. His body collapsed, metal plates splitting apart as his internal systems failed completely.
A final burst of energy rippled through the room before silence fell once more.
Saeldir exhaled sharply, lowering his hands. He could still feel the artifact's energy lingering in the air.

"It's dead now," Sylra murmured.
Arlyn let out a breath of relief, gripping his swords as he turned to check on Vael and Saeldir.
But Saeldir's eyes narrowed.
"No," he muttered. "Not yet."
His gaze snapped toward the other room where Aerchon and Laston were still fighting.
They had taken down Eryndor. But the real battle was still far from over.
