Chapter 56: The Chaotic Battle
The fleeing crowd inadvertently pointed Hisoka and Moro toward the source of the commotion.
Not that they needed guidance—
The intense Nen fluctuations and murderous intent emanating from the square were like a beacon in the night.
Even without seeing the scene, Moro could confidently deduce the situation: Silva Zoldyck had engaged the Phantom Troupe.
This was the advantage of intelligence.
Moro wasn't reckless enough to charge headfirst into the square. Instead, he kept a careful eye on Hisoka's purposeful stride toward the scene.
"Three or four members of the Troupe should be there," Moro mused silently.
Watching Hisoka's confident march, Moro couldn't help but marvel at the clown's audacity—or more precisely, his insatiable, irrational desire for one-on-one combat.
Redirecting his gaze, Moro turned toward a nearby high-rise building and made his way up to its rooftop.
The View from Above
Once on the rooftop, Moro had a clear view of the square.
In the middle of the chaos lay a crater, evidence of Silva's devastating attack. Within it, a mangled corpse—likely the Troupe's No. 8 member, Lucius—was sprawled lifelessly.
"Not bad," Moro thought. "Silva lives up to his reputation as the Zoldyck family head. That's one efficient assassination."
Not far from the crater, Silva and Chrollo were locked in combat. Surrounding them were several Phantom Troupe members, their auras tense and ready for action.
"Six of them…" Moro counted, noting more Troupe members than he'd anticipated.
The Battle Escalates
The duel between Silva and Chrollo had reached a critical point.
Chrollo, initially attempting close-quarters combat, had clearly fallen into a disadvantage.
The instant Silva had killed Lucius, Chrollo had keenly observed the attack and deduced its nature: a Transmutation-based, Nen-releasing technique.
This insight had driven Chrollo to engage in close combat, confident in his Nen techniques and physical prowess.
However, after several exchanges, it became clear that Silva's expertise in hand-to-hand combat far surpassed his own.
Silva's mastery extended beyond technique to experience, physical endurance, and raw power.
Realizing this, Chrollo decisively changed tactics. He created some distance and summoned his conjured book, "Bandit's Secret."
A Deadly Standoff
The sound of fluttering pages echoed through the tense square as Chrollo flipped through his book.
Silva paused, observing Chrollo's actions.
He glanced at the surrounding Troupe members, noting their poised readiness to intervene at any moment.
As an experienced assassin, Silva knew the risks of fighting a Conjurer. Their conjured items often came with complex mechanisms or deadly traps.
Still, Silva didn't attack immediately. He wasn't afraid—he simply didn't want to waste energy on meaningless actions.
Chrollo's Strategy
Chrollo's sharp eyes caught Silva's subtle movements, especially his careful observation of potential escape routes.
"Trying to find a way out, are you?" Chrollo murmured.
He quickly assessed the situation. Letting Silva escape would be a failure. The cost of victory, even if high, would be worth it.
"Move," Chrollo ordered.
At his command, the other Troupe members surged with energy, their Nen auras intensifying as they entered combat mode.
Chrollo flipped to a specific page in Bandit's Secret and conjured a unique weapon: a bubble gun with a shimmering, rainbow-hued barrel.
"Lovely Fragile Thing."
He pointed the gun at Silva and pulled the trigger.
Silva's Counterattack
With a loud burst, a stream of iridescent bubbles erupted from the gun, floating toward Silva like a kaleidoscopic cloud.
Silva's eyes narrowed slightly at the peculiar attack. He dodged effortlessly, retreating to avoid the approaching bubbles.
Then, without hesitation, he shifted his focus to Kortopi, who guarded a possible escape route.
In an instant, Silva charged toward Kortopi, aiming to break through the weakest link.
Chrollo's Next Move
Kortopi's face went pale as Silva advanced. He knew he stood no chance of stopping the assassin, but he didn't back down.
Not because he was confident—he trusted Chrollo's abilities implicitly.
Behind him, Chrollo snapped Bandit's Secret shut, causing the bubble gun to vanish.
However, the bubbles already released into the air didn't disappear.
This was the power of "Lovely Fragile Thing": the conjured bubbles remained active even after the weapon was dismissed.
Chrollo flipped to a new page in Bandit's Secret and activated another ability.
"Order Stamp."
Suddenly, Chrollo and Silva's positions switched.
Forced Exchange
Silva found himself surrounded by the floating rainbow bubbles, while Chrollo appeared near Kortopi.
"Hmm." Silva quickly recognized the forced positional swap as a Manipulation-Emission hybrid technique.
Without hesitation, he dashed through the bubbles, deliberately smashing several in the process.
The shimmering liquid splattered onto Silva's Nen defenses, corroding them like acid.
Silva noted the corrosive effect on his aura but remained calm. Allowing some defense to be eroded was a small price to pay.
His goal was clear: the weak point in the formation, where the Troupe's encirclement could be broken.
Machi, the nearest to the opening, stepped forward, her hands pulling out thin, glowing threads of Nen.
But before she could act, three Nen-charged playing cards whizzed past, cutting between her and Silva.
Hisoka's Entrance
The cards flew toward Shalnark, who had yet to make a move. Startled, Shalnark barely dodged the attack.
On a nearby rooftop, Moro noticed the origin of the attack.
"Hisoka…" Moro muttered, observing the red-haired jester with keen interest.
It was clear Hisoka had entered the fray with one goal in mind: chaos.
Initially, he had intended to "greet" Machi with those cards.
But upon seeing her engage with Silva, Hisoka quickly redirected his attack toward Shalnark, targeting the most inactive participant.
Moro couldn't help but smirk at the realization.
"This guy… a true wildcard."
