Harry Potter : This Progress Too Much

Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Beginning With A Ticket To Azkaban

July 26, 1991

Surrey, Staines, Thames. On the second floor of a luxurious villa, the morning sun streamed through the windows, casting warm golden hues on the floor.

David Adrian sat at the edge of his bed, staring blankly at the envelope in his hands. He had just woken up, still groggy, when he heard a rapid tapping sound at the window.

A knocking sound on the second floor? From outside?

Realizing something unusual was happening, David quickly got up and opened the window. An owl fluttered inside, clutching a letter in its claws—the very letter now resting in his hands.

The envelope was made of thick parchment, and the recipient's name, Mr. David Adrian, was written in dark green ink, along with his full address. On the back was a crimson wax seal bearing a shield-shaped emblem—a lion, an eagle, a badger, and a snake surrounding the letter "H."

The day has finally come.

As a time traveler who had been reborn into this world, David had long anticipated this moment. His new life had been a dream come true in many ways—he was born into wealth, dabbled in finance, played the stock market, and enjoyed a carefree existence.

But fate had other plans.

This world was not ordinary.

Back in second grade, after the school reorganized classes, he met a scrawny boy with messy black hair and a lightning-shaped scar on his forehead—Harry Potter. He had thought it was just a coincidence, but then, during recess, a chubby boy named Dudley picked a fight with Harry.

That was when reality hit him.

This is the wizarding world. This is the world of Harry Potter.

For a brief moment, David considered the possibility that he was just an ordinary Muggle, someone who could avoid the dangers of magic altogether. Wizards and Muggles lived in separate societies—if he stayed away, he wouldn't have to deal with any of it.

That plan lasted exactly one month.

Then, it happened.

A magic riot.

David lost control and caused a supernatural event, proving he was a wizard. And wizards must enroll in a magical school.

Of course, he could have chosen another magic academy, like Ilvermorny in America. But realistically, apart from the years when Voldemort was active, no other school offered a better experience for Muggle-borns than Hogwarts.

"Well, that's that."

With a sigh, David opened the envelope and pulled out the parchment inside.

HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY

Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore

(Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot, Supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards, Order of Merlin, First Class)

Dear Mr. Adrian,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry...

Just as David finished reading, a golden interface suddenly appeared before him.

It was an odd sensation—like an overlay on reality. He could still see his surroundings, yet this floating panel was just as clear.

The design was simple, with neatly arranged text:

Name: David Adrian

Age: 11

Bloodline: Wizard

Talents:

"Excess Soul" – A more solid soul enhances learning efficiency and spellcasting speed.

"Strong Body" – Improves physical fitness and magical adaptability through exercise.

Spells: None

In the lower right corner, a red gift box tied with a ribbon blinked invitingly.

David's heart skipped a beat. A system!

Even if it seemed basic, any advantage was welcome. Magic in this world was monopolized by powerful families, making survival difficult for an outsider.

"Excess Soul" was likely a side effect of his reincarnation, explaining his rapid learning ability.

"Strong Body" aligned with his physique—he had always been taller and stronger than his peers, attributing it to his disciplined exercise routine. But now, it seemed his strength extended into the magical realm as well.

This means I could've survived even without the system… but I won't complain.

Now, it was time to open the newbie gift pack.

As David focused on the red ribbon, a surge of information flowed into his mind.

[Newbie Gift Pack]

Three randomly selected full-level spells. Wishing you a smooth magical journey!

Three full-level spells?

His heart pounded. In this world, even the simplest spells could be deadly if mastered. A Lumos could become a flashbang, a Tarantallegra could turn into a paralyzing technique, and Densaugeo could be modified into a lethal attack.

What will I get?

The ribbon untied, and three golden lights shot into the sky.

Gold! A triple gold pull!

Excited, David turned to check the new spell list—only for his smile to freeze.

His surroundings shifted.

The bedroom faded away, replaced by a dark, chaotic battlefield filled with screaming, writhing figures.

Pale, haunted faces twisted in agony.

Green flashes streaked through the air—people collapsed, lifeless.

Some stared blankly, their souls shattered beyond repair.

Then, the whispers started.

"Crucio!" (The curse of torment.)

"Avada Kedavra!" (The killing curse.)

"Imperio!" (The spell of control.)

David clutched his head as a heavy weight settled on his soul. His vision swam.

A few minutes later, he gasped and sat up, drenched in sweat.

The knowledge had settled. He instinctively knew how to cast these spells, without wands, without incantations.

His spell list had updated.

Spells:

Killing Curse (10/10)

Cruciatus Curse (10/10)

Imperius Curse (10/10)

David's stomach dropped.

These weren't just powerful spells. They were Unforgivable Curses.

Using even one of them on another human meant a lifetime sentence in Azkaban.

Before he could fully process it, the panel flashed again.

[Achievements Unlocked]

[Falling into Darkness]

A soul destined for the shadows steps further into the abyss.

Objective: Learn all Unforgivable Curses (3/3)

Reward: Enhanced talent for Dark Magic

[I Am the Darkness]

Trampling flesh and souls alike. Reaping life itself. The darkness does not consume me—I am the darkness.

Objective: Max out all Unforgivable Curses (3/3)

Reward: "Heart of Darkness" – Cast Dark Magic without emotional aid.

[The Mastermind]

Harmless on the surface, but hiding the deepest secrets.

Objective: Keep your mastery of Unforgivable Curses completely unknown (3/3)

Reward: "Unseen Hand" – Any magic cast outside your direct vision remains unnoticed by others.

David's jaw tightened.

What kind of system was this?!

It was like the universe itself was urging him to step onto the path of darkness.

A shiver ran down his spine.

No. I won't be controlled by this.

Before he could think further, a loud hoot broke the tension.

David looked up.

The owl that delivered his letter ruffled its feathers impatiently.

Right. He needed to send a reply. And, of course, feed the owl.

For now, he would focus on Hogwarts. The future…

He would deal with it when the time came.
