Chapter 410: Chapter 410: Superpowers?
"Have you all memorized the president's appearance? Once we find him, use the Disillusionment Charm to take him away," Jacqueline instructed. "There are many Muggles here, it would be bad if they discovered us."
"Okai, how's it going with your dad?"
"He drank a big gulp of the Draught of Living Death, enough to keep him asleep until tomorrow night," the wizard named Okai excitedly said.
"Good, check your wands, use the Disillusionment Charm and the Muffling Charm, then scatter. Whoever finds the Muggle president, take him away immediately. Those who don't find him, meet at the barn in ten minutes!"
"Let's go!"
Twelve young wizards, cloaked in invisibility and silence, entered the Italian Parliament building. The place was swarming with guards and bustling with activity, making the wizards quite nervous. However, they soon realized that no one could see them, emboldening them once again.
But they quickly encountered a problem; the Parliament building was too large, and there were too many people. Finding one specific person here was not an easy task.
Since they were all under the Disillusionment Charm and the Muffling Charm, they couldn't see or hear each other, making it impossible to change plans on the fly. They had no choice but to continue their search, opening every door and scrutinizing every passerby, but to no avail.
Ten minutes later, at the barn, all twelve wizards reappeared.
"Damn it, was that guy even here?!"
"We should have figured out a way to communicate with each other!"
"Fosto, you stepped on my foot, idiot!"
"I did not!"
"The one behind me was you, it must have been you who stepped on me!"
"Enough! Quiet!" Jacqueline shouted, finally silencing everyone. "We made a mistake, not realizing how cunning they could be, hiding among so many Muggles. Okai, are you sure the Muggle president was supposed to be here today?"
"I'm sure, my dad said he had an important meeting and wouldn't be absent."
"This isn't working, Jacqueline," a wizard suggested, "we should capture a Muggle and question them. I have Veritaserum here, guaranteeing they'll tell the truth."
"But how do we contact each other?!" another wizard asked. "Being invisible to each other is too much of a hassle. Do we have to wait another ten minutes to find out if anyone has captured a Muggle for questioning, and then another ten minutes to confirm if we've captured the president?"
"I have a solution. I've been to England and bought a set of gadgets called Galleons that allow us to communicate, but I only have nine."
"Nine people, that's enough!"
Quickly, nine wizards re-entered the Parliament building. They then captured a poor clerk heading to the bathroom and dragged him to the barn, immediately administering Veritaserum.
"Quick, where's the Muggle president?!"
"Muggle?" The clerk, dazed from the overdose of Veritaserum, couldn't grasp their question.
"Damn it, we mean your president, where is he?!"
"The president is at the Quirinal Palace."
The wizards were stunned, "Isn't it supposed to be the Parliament building?"
"The president doesn't work in the Parliament building."
"..."
The wizards were confused; unlike the Ministry of Magic, the Muggle president didn't work in the government office? Fortunately, the Quirinal Palace was well-known, even among wizards. So, they quickly adjusted their plan, sending five wizards with Galleons to capture the president at the Quirinal Palace.
After they left, a wizard named Wallice suddenly showed a photo to the clerk, "This guy, he's your president, right?"
The clerk looked at the photo and shook his head, "No, that's the prime minister."
"What?!"
"Damn, did Okai get the wrong person?!" Jacqueline exclaimed, "Call them back!"
But they had already flown away on brooms, out of communication range.
"Wait, Okai might not have been wrong," Wallice said, "My mom is from a Muggle background. I think she mentioned something about the prime minister and president having different powers."
He showed the photo again, "This country's most powerful person, is it this man?"
The clerk nodded, "Yes."
"Okai wasn't wrong; his father is protecting the country's most powerful prime minister, not the president. We should be capturing the prime minister," Wallice concluded, thinking he understood everything.
But then, the clerk added, "But the prime minister is appointed by the president. The president is the supreme head of state."
"???"
"What?"
"So, sending them to capture the president was correct?" Jacqueline asked, puzzled.
Wallice was at a loss. What was this Muggle nonsense? The Ministry head is obviously the most significant official in the wizarding world; how simple and clear! But with Muggles, there's both a president and a prime minister. Who's the most important?
"Whatever! Let's capture the prime minister too!" another wizard suggested, "We still have four Galleons left. Just grab another Muggle, no big deal!"
"Alright," Jacqueline regrouped, asking the clerk, "Where's the prime minister?"
"He's usually at the Chigi Palace," the wizards frowned, but then the clerk added, "However, the prime minister has an important meeting today. He's currently at the Parliament building."
...
Meanwhile, at the Parliament building's security room, a guard pointed at the monitor, "Look here, Mr. Tralton was just in the corridor, but vanished in the next moment."
"And here, this door opened and closed by itself. And here, Congressman Levado's expensive pen suddenly disappeared..."
But before he could finish, the captain pressed his earpiece, silencing him.
"What?!" the captain exclaimed, "Understood!"
After ending the call, the captain turned pale, "Emergency order! Protect the prime minister! Terrorists have kidnapped the president!"
Everyone was stunned. How could this be? The Presidential Palace had so many guards, with checkpoints for miles around. How did the terrorists get in? Were the guards at the Quirinal Palace eating their hats?
But then, looking back at the monitor, their hearts tightened.
The Parliament building had also been breached!
But how?
Hackers?
There was no time for further thought. Everyone sprang into action, with the captain urgently instructing all the guards, "The Parliament building has been invaded by terrorists! Protect the prime minister! Any abnormality is grounds for opening fire! Remember, any abnormality! The suspects are believed to be..."
The captain's face showed a mix of absurdity and fear.
"Superpowers!"
"Repeat! The suspects are believed to have superpowers! Open fire on suspicious persons!"
