Chapter 1149: Moving Out
Evan began to tell Harry about his experiences tonight, starting with the adventure in the vampire castle in Norway, and then talking about his return to the future eighteen years later.
As he spoke, he checked the Time-Turner, taking it out and examining it carefully.
Unlike before, in addition to the hourglass, the dial of the Time-Turner also had era marks and strange scales.
These scales were not the evenly distributed numbers from one to twelve on the normal dial, but circles of varying sizes, spread all over the dial.
There were also some meaningless fonts and patterns, giving a sense of unknown mystery.
After inspecting it, Evan found that after merging the Time-Turner from eighteen years in the future, its power seemed to have increased, but he still couldn’t use it actively.
He tried to twist the pointer and the hourglass, but there was no response.
He put the Time-Turner away, wondering how Delphi was doing.
Evan remembered seeing his future self and Hermione before returning. Those two were definitely hiding somewhere, watching his misadventures with amusement.
It was probably like this. They would take good care of Delphi…But going back to the past to save Voldemort should not happen.
As for Riddle, he had also been quiet. Did he follow Evan back, or did he stay in the future?
Evan didn’t know what Riddle had been doing in the Ministry of Magic while he went to get the Time-Turner.
But the ring and the Horcrux inside it were not damaged, so he should be fine.
He had broken the Unbreakable Vow he made with Delphi, and it was his body that disappeared, just a part of his energy.
Even if Riddle really disappeared, it didn’t matter…
The biggest gain tonight was that he solved the troubles of the vampires, destroyed part of the evil god’s body, passed the test left by Slytherin, improved his magic power, and witnessed a possible future; the regret was probably that Voldemort was not caught. If he was determined to flee, it was almost impossible to stop him.
In addition, Dumbledore was very satisfied with the current situation.
Had he verified something? Was it the reason why Voldemort escaped from Harry’s soul?
“In short, in the future I witnessed, you became a great Seeker, a world-class Quidditch star, led the England team to win the World Cup, and many wizards know you,” said Evan. “Also, Hermione is the Minister of Magic, she has reformed the entire Wizarding World, abolished the rights of pure-blood wizards…”
“Abolishing the rights of pure-blood wizards, what a terrible future!” a cold voice interrupted. Phineas Nigellus Black gave a long yawn, stretching his arms as he watched Evan and Harry with shrewd, narrow eyes. “And you two, what brings you here in the early hours of the morning? This office is supposed to be barred to all but the rightful headmaster.”
“Dumbledore sent us here,” said Harry hurriedly.
“So, Dumbledore will soon be back with us?” said the corpulent, red-nosed wizard who hung on the wall behind Dumbledore’s desk. He settled himself on the thronelike chair on which he had been painted and smiled benignly upon Evan and Harry.
“Yeah,” Evan also nodded, noticing that the wizard was eyeing him with great interest.
“Oh, that’s wonderful. It has been very dull without him, very dull indeed,” said the wizard leisurely, “Dumbledore thinks very highly of you, as I am sure you know, especially you, Evan!”
“Thank you, I—”
“What’s the point of continuing to repeat such hypocritical compliments?” said Phineas slyly. “You don’t really believe these compliments, so let’s continue talking about the future. Although I don’t have high expectations for that worthless great-great-grandson, I still want to know how the noble Black family is doing.”
“Sirius is doing well. He became the Head of the Auror Office,” Evan said.
“That’s a rough position. A member of the Black family should aim for the ministerial office.”
“The Wizarding World is undergoing unprecedented changes, and the pace of integration with Muggle technology is accelerating…”
“The wizards of that future must be mad. Don’t they know that all Muggles are untrustworthy?”
“Well, a lot of changes have taken place in Hogwarts, too,” Evan looked at Phineas with dissatisfaction. “One of them is related to you. They cleaned up the portraits in the headmaster’s office. Apparently, they don’t think you deserve to stay, so they moved you to the Trophy Room on the third floor.”
“You are kidding!” Phineas choked suddenly. “They can’t do that!”
“But that’s how it was in the future I saw. I was quite surprised too…” Evan said earnestly.
“I’m a rightful headmaster. They can’t do that!” Phineas seemed to really believe what Evan said.
“That would be wonderful. I’ve always wanted to kick him out,” said an older witch with satisfaction. “So, I only have to put up with him for another eighteen years. I must thank the wizard who made this decision.”
“Who is the headmaster then? I need to have a word with him!” Phineas shouted. “And…”
The office was in chaos, and Phineas began arguing with the portraits of several other headmasters.
More and more headmasters joined the conversation, bombarding Evan and Harry with questions.
It was getting too noisy. Evan started longing for his warm four-poster bed; he needed a good night’s sleep.
Just as he was thinking about leaving, the empty fireplace burst into emerald-green flame. As Dumbledore’s tall form unfolded itself from the fire, the wizards and witches on the surrounding walls jerked awake. Many of them gave cries of welcome.
“Thank you,” said Dumbledore softly.
He did not look at Evan and Harry at first, but walked over to the perch beside the door and withdrew, from an inside pocket of his robes, the tiny, ugly, featherless Fawkes, whom he placed gently on the tray of soft ashes beneath the golden post where the full-grown Fawkes usually stood.
“Poor Fawkes, he has been reborn twice since Christmas. Even for an immortal phoenix, that is quite a strain,” said Dumbledore, his eyes shifted from the young phoenix to Evan. “Evan, your final appearance tonight was just in time and played a key role. Voldemort has obviously been preparing for a long time and he used forbidden power.”
“The magic he wielded felt like that of the evil god,” Evan said, voicing the question that had been on his mind. “Is he already able to use the evil god’s Dark power?”
