Chapter 587: The Raid
In the meantime, as the Eclipse Domain won their defense against the Vampire Lord and the Zombie Horde, Shane's team had already started raiding the Dreadnight Fortress.
As a matter of fact, Shane and his elite team of thirty had already carved their way through the outer defenses, leaving a trail of fallen zombies.
Now, Shane and ten of his companions looked at the massive, vaulted chamber where another Commander-Type Zombie stood guard before the Zombie Lord's inner sanctum.
There were a total of eight elite or commander-type Zombies that Shane had to defeat for his Ascension Quest.
Shane killed two of them in the Maggotfall Citadel and another two in the outer wall of the Dreadnight Fortress.
Now, two of these abominations blocked their path, so Shane was guessing that the last two were actually in the Zombie Lord Chambers where the Zombie Lord was.
Soon, Shane received a notification, confirming what type of elite Zombie they were dealing with.
The first one was called the Bone Reaver. It was a zombie with an exoskeleton armor.
Well, this armor wasn't something that just grew out of its physique. Instead, it was forged from the bones of its victims since Shane and the others could still see some human skulls and other human bones on it.
In some other cases, this Zombie would definitely be a boss of its own territory but in this Fortress, it was simply a guard of the Zombie Lord.
Whoosh~
Soon, it swung its weapon which was a massive cleaver made from a single distorted spine.
Then, with the updated system, Shane was able to view a bit more of its details.
[ Abilities:
Bone Surge: Could detach and regrow its skeletal armor at will, using it as a projectile.
Sundering Cleave: A single strike could fracture the ground, creating deadly shockwaves. ]
This system assistance where he could see more details seemed to have only happened after he obtained all of his memories from his past lives. It was such an interesting reward.
In any case, Shane continued to check the other Zombie.
This time, it was named the Plaguebringer.
It was a bloated Zombie that emitted green mist from its pores.
It was quite similar to Spitter Zombie with its build but perhaps, instead of spitting acid, this Zombie spits out plague.
However, this bloated Zombie was still a lot more disgusting than the Spitter Zombies. After all, aside from looking so infected, it had pulsating tumors that looked so dangerous to the touch.
Lastly, it had a huge mouth that could probably stretch to the ground.
[ Abilities:
Pestilent Cloud: A toxic miasma that corroded flesh and weakened the living.
Plague Burst: If struck too hard, it could explode, spreading lethal spores. ]
Shane then shared the information he got with all the others as he gripped his sword.
"Alright, we're splitting up. Tundra, Kain, Sona—you're with me on the Bone Reaver. Otto, Shenlong, Kale—take down the Plaguebringer. The rest, support where needed. Don't let them regroup."
The team nodded.
There were only a total of eleven people here including Shane and the rest were actually outside, holding back the weaker Zombies in the hallways or any narrow paths.
After all, if they had to eliminate all the low-tier Zombies first, it would take a really long time before defeating them. It also means that they would get exhausted and use up many of their resources in the process.
Shane didn't want to prolong this raid by a lot, so he knew that this was the best choice they had.
Aside from Tundra, Kain, Sona, Otto, Shenlong, and Kale, the others who had followed him here and would act as support were Vernon, Nia, Raze, and Layla.
Raze may be the best tanker or vanguard in the group since she was a Dragon Knight, but she could also be the best person to act as a support in this type of situation.
The Bone Reaver then rushed forward, with its cleaver dragging against the stone floor.
At first, the Zombie moved too slow, however, with a sudden burst of speed, it swung horizontally, aiming to bisect the entire group.
Shane dodged at the last second, rolling beneath the blade. "Tundra, now!"
Tundra grinned, slapping his palm against the Reaver's armored leg. "Tagged."
A second later—BOOM!
A strong explosion ripped through the zombie's knee, shattering bone and sending it stumbling.
Kain the Werewolf didn't wait. With a roar, he pounced on the Zombie. If he was dealing with the Plaguebringer, there was no way he would do this.
After all, the Plaguebringer looked so slimy and disgusting and he felt that touching it would make his claws melt.
However, it was different with the bony Bone Reaver Zombie.
Of course, this was also the reason why Shane assigned Tundra and Kain on this side.
In any case, Hayden's claws raked across the Reaver's exposed ribcage.
However, the monster retaliated, swinging its cleaver downward, but Sona was already there.
"Glacial Prison!"
A pillar of ice erupted beneath the Reaver's arm, freezing it mid-swing.
Shane didn't waste the opening. He dashed forward, his sword engulfed in powerful energy, and plunged it deep into the Reaver's chest.
This sword was obviously the Eon's Edge, the Mythic Item that Shane obtained after recalling his memories when he 'cleared' the A.I. Rebellion Apocalypse.
Boom!
The zombie howled in anger as its bone armor started regenerating rapidly—but Shane wasn't done.
"Raze! Finish it!"
From above, Raze the Dragon Knight descended, his draconic lance pierced straight through the Reaver's skull. The force of the impact slammed the monster into the ground, where it twitched once—then went still.
This was Raze's true purpose, a one-hit killing machine. Shane wanted her to focus on one moment where she could simply use all of her energy to kill an unmoving Zombie. This would allow them to save a lot of time dealing with problematic Zombies after all.
Furthermore, Shane didn't like the Bone Reaver's skills. The Sundering Cloud might cause a huge destruction on the battlefield and Shane didn't want that to happen since he wanted to use the terrain to their advantage.
He wanted to use the narrow path or hallways to ensure that they wouldn't get surrounded by low-tier Zombies. Shane didn't want to use his barriers or spend his resources on such lowly Zombies after all.
Meanwhile, the Plaguebringer had already begun spewing its Pestilent Cloud, forcing Otto and the others to use their talismans to protect themselves from getting poisoned or infected by something they didn't know.
"We can't breathe in this crap!" Kale coughed.
Otto smirked. "Then let's burn it away."
With a snap of his fingers, a ring of fire erupted around the Plaguebringer, the intense heat vaporized the toxic mist. However, despite being so cool when he cast that spell, Otto actually kneeled to the ground as he felt weakened after inhaling too much of that mist and casting that powerful Spell.
Thankfully, it was not for nothing, the zombie screeched and its blistered skin bubbled from the flames!
"Yeah!" Otto still celebrated upon seeing this. However, he didn't forget to actually use his Spirit Stones to recover.
Finally, Shane's summon from the Legendary Recruitment Stone made his move.
Shenlong moved fast…
This legendary monk didn't care about the flames or the disgusting body of the Plaguebringer.
What it cared about was killing this Zombie as quickly as possible as their companions were still outside holding a huge horde of Zombies to buy them enough time to kill the Zombie Lord.
At this time, Shenlong coated his hands with his aura and used a palm strike hitting the Plaguebringer's gut with enough force to crater stone!
Boom!
The impact ruptured one of its tumors, spraying acidic bile—but Layla's telekinesis yanked Shenlong out of harm's way just in time. It was such a well-coordinated move.
"Nia! Can you suppress its regeneration?" Otto called.
The female druid then nodded, pressing her hands to the ground. "Thorned Roots—bind it!"
Vines burst from the stone, wrapping around the Plaguebringer's limbs. The zombie thrashed as it tried to remove the binding…
It was certainly effective but the Thorned Roots should buy them enough time…
"I'm going all out!" Nia shouted as the roots tightened. Their thorns also started injecting a paralyzing toxin but she wasn't sure if it would work against this type of Zombie. Nonetheless, she tried to do it.
Vernon, the sniper at the back of the group then took his shot after seeing an opening..
BANG!
A bullet with an invisible bomb on it punched through the Plaguebringer's skull…
Then, Tundra, who got the signal, detonated it…
Boom!
It created an explosion inside its head and created a spray of gore.
The bloated zombie then collapsed but before anything could celebrate, Shane immediately made his move…
"Careful… It will explode!" As Shane said this, he already summoned Silver, his Metal Slime, to cover the Zombie's body into a spherical prison!
It might seem that he was sacrificing his pet, but Shane simply knew how powerful it was after obtaining more power from the Mana Lake in his Fairy Realm!
