Genshin Impact : The Divine Gunsliger of Teyvat

Chapter 9: Chapter 009: Rolling in Wealth

Huddled inside Mondstadt's bustling department store, the group waited anxiously for the storm outside to subside. The atmosphere was tense, yet there was an odd sense of idleness as everyone fretted over the chaos beyond the walls.

Shao Yun sat beside Noelle, unsure of what to do. He had already offered what little comfort he could, and now all they could do was wait for Lumine to drive the dragon away. Suddenly, his vision blurred, and he felt a wave of dizziness. Pulling up his status panel, he realized his core health was dangerously low—he was starving to the point of hallucinating.

Thankfully, they were in Mondstadt's department store and not somewhere like the With Wind Comes Glory. That would have been a disaster. His eyes wandered to the shelves stocked with goods, and he raised a hand to catch the attention of the shopkeeper, Blanche.

"Uh, boss?" he called out.

Blanche turned, startled. "Huh? What is it?"

"Do you have any food for sale here?" Shao Yun asked, rubbing his empty stomach with an awkward grin.

The room fell silent as everyone turned to stare at him in disbelief. Food? At a time like this? their expressions seemed to say.

Blanche blinked, caught off guard by the question. "Food?" she repeated, tapping her chin thoughtfully as she mentally scanned the store's inventory. "Well, we do have some ingredients that need cooking, and plenty of wine and seasonings. The Good Hunter did send over a batch of baked rolls earlier, but they've all been sold out."

Mondstadt's department store mostly stocked raw ingredients, though some items, like fruits, could be eaten as they were. Shao Yun's gaze drifted to a corner where baskets of apples and sunsettias were piled up.

Apples: Slightly restores core health and stamina.

Sunsettias: Slightly restores core health and moderately restores stamina.

"What about those fruits?" he asked, pointing to the baskets.

Blanche's face lit up with realization. "Oh! I completely forgot about those. Yes, we do have some fruits left."

She walked over and picked out two decent-looking apples. "These will be ten Mora each. Normally, they'd cost fifty, but since they've been sitting here for a while, I'll give them to you at cost price."

Shao Yun nearly choked at the mention of the price. Why is everything in Teyvat so expensive? he wondered. But then it hit him—Mora? Do I even have any Mora?

He was currently using a template from the world of Red Dead Redemption, and his pockets were filled with that world's currency. Maybe the gold bars he'd found could be exchanged, but would Teyvat even accept gold? He'd never seen it used in the game.

"System, can you check how much Mora I have?" he asked silently.

"Querying…"

Current Mora: 0

(TL/N : Poor bastard hahaha)

Great. I've crossed into Teyvat only to become a broke wanderer. Even Klee has fifty Mora to her name. I'm practically on par with the Four Archons when it comes to financial status.

He glanced at his status panel again. While his core health was depleted, his outer health was still intact. He wasn't in immediate danger of dying, just severely weakened. Relieved, he sighed and was about to give up on the apples when the system pinged again.

Current Host Currency: 26$; 0 Mora.

Calculating exchange rate…

Exchange rate: 1$ = 50,000 Mora.

Shao Yun's eyes widened. Wait, I can exchange my money? That's amazing! But why is my balance so oddly specific? Oh, right—this is my Red Dead Redemption money. The template brought it over.

One dollar equaled fifty thousand Mora. Doing the math in his head, he realized he had over twenty billion Mora. I've gone from a Teyvat pauper to a billionaire overnight. Money really is just a number now.

Trying to contain his excitement, he exchanged five thousand Mora first to buy the apples. He was starving, after all.

"Exchanging…"

"Exchange complete."

Reaching into his Eastern Legend backpack, he pulled out twenty Mora coins. They were smaller than he'd imagined, but they gleamed with a golden hue. Are they made of gold? he wondered. His backpack was like a bottomless pit, capable of holding an absurd amount of items, including tens of thousands of Mora. But how did the people of Teyvat carry thousands of Mora around without breaking their backs? Maybe everyone here is secretly a weightlifter.

Shaking off the thought, he handed the Mora to Blanche and took the apples. Returning to Noelle, he handed her one. "Here, you've been working hard. Have something to eat," he said, not giving her a chance to refuse before biting into his own apple.

Noelle looked at the apple, then at Shao Yun, before taking a small bite. The other refugees, seeing Shao Yun's casual demeanor, began pulling out their own Mora to shop. Since they couldn't do much else, they figured they might as well stock up on supplies.

The storm raged outside, but inside Mondstadt's department store, life went on as usual. People bought ingredients and seasonings, preparing for the aftermath.

"Aren't you worried?" Noelle asked, her voice tinged with anxiety as she finished her apple.

"Worrying won't help. We might as well rest while we can," Shao Yun replied, swallowing the last of his apple. "Don't worry, I have a feeling this storm will pass soon, and no one will get hurt."

"How can you be so sure?" Noelle asked, skeptical.

Shao Yun tapped his temple with a smile. "Intuition."

Dvalin, though corrupted by the Abyss, was still the Dragon of the East, a protector of Mondstadt. He wouldn't harm the city's residents, no matter how lost he seemed.

Noelle didn't seem convinced, but with no other options, she closed her eyes and began to pray. Shao Yun, meanwhile, decided to take a quick nap. Resting would help conserve his core energy.

"Mr. Shao Yun, the storm seems to be calming down," Noelle said, gently shaking him awake.

"Huh?" Shao Yun blinked, his head still foggy. "Is it over?"

They stepped outside to find the storm had weakened, though the sky remained gray and the winds still howled through the city. Most of the buildings, however, had survived unscathed.

"No!"

A cry of despair echoed through the streets as a man came stumbling past them. It was Timaeus, the alchemist, and his shop was in ruins. The roof was gone, the alchemy table had been flung into the fountain, and the potion shelves were completely destroyed. Bottles lay shattered, their contents mixing into a useless, colorful puddle on the ground.

Timaeus fell to his knees in front of the wreckage, utterly defeated. Noelle approached him, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. "Mr. Timaeus, let me help you clean up."

"Thank you, Miss Noelle," Timaeus muttered, his voice trembling.

Shao Yun grabbed Timaeus by the collar and gave him a firm pat on the back. "Don't lose hope. You can always brew more potions, but if you give up, there's no potion that can bring you back."

Timaeus stumbled forward from the force of the pat but managed a weak smile. "Thank you… sir."

Together, Shao Yun and Noelle helped Timaeus clean up the mess. Noelle retrieved the alchemy table from the fountain, while Shao Yun disposed of the debris and spilled potions. By the time they were done, the shop was bare, with only the alchemy table left standing.

Timaeus thanked them both, though his gratitude toward Shao Yun was noticeably less enthusiastic. "If you ever need any alchemical services, feel free to come by," he said, forcing a smile.

"I'll keep that in mind," Shao Yun replied with a chuckle. "But maybe invest in sturdier shelves and bottles next time. Wouldn't want the wind to ruin everything again."

With the alchemy shop taken care of, Noelle continued to assist other residents, and Shao Yun followed, his current task still set to "Follow Noelle." The storm had passed, but the work was far from over.
