Chapter 8: Chapter 008: The Storm Dragon's Assault

Just as Shao Yun was about to suggest that perhaps it was due to her age, a sudden gust of wind swept through Mondstadt.

"Why is it so windy? It hasn't been this windy in Mondstadt for a long time," Noelle murmured, feeling the wind brush against her cheeks. Unlike the gentle breezes of Windrise, this wind carried a sharp sting.

Shao Yun sensed something was amiss. Could it be time for the plot to unfold?

The wind quickly intensified, growing fiercer by the second. Shao Yun immediately realized the danger and shouted, "This wind is unnatural! Noelle, grab onto something and hold on tight!"

No sooner had he spoken than a deafening roar echoed from the sky. Noelle's eyes darted upward, and she uttered three chilling words: "Stormterror."

As if summoned by her words, a massive dragon appeared in the sky, its presence visible to everyone in Mondstadt. The dragon circled above the city, its roars shaking the air. Powerful gusts of wind erupted, sweeping through the streets, lifting dust and debris into the air, forming swirling tornadoes.

Buildings swayed visibly, trees teetered on the brink of collapse, and the sounds of shattering glass and panicked screams filled the air. The citizens of Mondstadt, caught off guard, clung desperately to anything fixed to avoid being swept away by the ferocious winds. Clothes flapped wildly, hair whipped around faces, and eyes struggled to stay open.

...

Shao Yun gripped a lamppost with one hand while pulling Noelle close with the other. "The people of Mondstadt need help," Noelle said, trying to break free from Shao Yun's grasp.

"Are you insane? You'll be blown away in this wind!" Shao Yun protested. Noelle might be strong, but her small frame made her vulnerable. If the wind caught her, there was no telling where she'd end up.

"But the people..." Noelle's voice was filled with urgency as she listened to the cries of the citizens. Yet, Shao Yun held her firmly, leaving her no room to act.

"Protect yourself first before thinking of others," Shao Yun interrupted, his voice strained as the wind threatened to choke him. He paused, catching his breath, then added, "There's debris flying everywhere. If something hits you..."

Seizing a moment when Shao Yun's grip loosened slightly, Noelle broke free and activated her elemental skill, "Breastplate." A protective layer of geo energy enveloped her, shielding her from harm.

"Now I'll be fine. I'm going to help," Noelle declared, rushing off to aid the citizens trapped in the storm.

"Damn it! You're really reckless!" Shao Yun muttered, watching her go. He glanced around, realizing that many people indeed needed assistance. Gritting his teeth, he released the lamppost and followed her, shouting, "Wait up! I'm coming with you!"

Under his breath, he added, "I better get some credit for this!"

...

The figure of Stormterror loomed in the sky, but Shao Yun paid it little mind. He knew the Traveler would eventually drive it away. His focus was on the people in need.

The first person he spotted was a blind woman, trembling beneath a bench. "Hey, it's not safe here. Let me take you inside," Shao Yun said, crouching down and extending a hand.

"Who are you? I don't recognize your voice," the woman replied warily.

"I'm Shao Yun. There's no time for introductions. Let's get you to safety."

"My name is Glory," the woman said, shakily crawling out from under the bench. Shao Yun helped her up and led her toward a windmill, its blades whirling violently in the storm. He kicked open the locked door beneath it and guided Glory inside.

"It's safer here. Stay until the storm passes," Shao Yun instructed before closing the door and heading back out to help others.

Meanwhile, Noelle was at the Fountain Plaza, evacuating citizens. Fortunately, the plaza was surrounded by buildings like the Good Hunter, Mondstadt General Goods, and the Cat's Tail Tavern, providing ample shelter.

"Everyone, hold on tight! I'll get you to safety," Noelle called out, her geo armor protecting her from the flying debris. However, the armor also increased her wind resistance, making movement more strenuous. Eventually, she dismissed the armor and carried the trapped citizens to safety.

"Has anyone seen Prince? He's missing!" the owner of the Cat's Tail Tavern, Margaret, shouted, shielding her eyes as she stood by the fountain.

(TL/N : Prince is a black cat)

Noelle rushed to her side. "Miss Margaret, you need to get to safety first. Prince will be fine."

"But what if he's blown away or hurt by the debris?" Margaret fretted.

At that moment, a large piece of wood, as thick as a bowl and nearly as tall as Noelle, was hurled toward her by the tornado. "Watch out!" Shao Yun shouted, arriving just in time to see the danger.

Noelle reacted too slowly, unable to activate her elemental skill in time. As she braced herself to shield Margaret, the sound of splintering wood filled the air. Instead of the expected impact, only a few wood chips struck her back.

She turned to see Shao Yun in the distance, his gun still aimed at the now-shattered log. He had activated his "Deadeye" ability, infusing his shots with pyro energy to obliterate the wood.

"Don't just stand there! Get to safety!" Shao Yun yelled, rushing over and pointing toward the Mondstadt General Goods store.

"Right!" Noelle replied, helping Margaret to the store.

Once inside, Shao Yun stopped Noelle from leaving. "You're staying here too," he said firmly, pointing at her chest.

"But the citizens—" Noelle protested.

"You're just a kid. You need protection. I'll handle the rest," Shao Yun interrupted, his tone leaving no room for argument. He turned to Margaret. "Make sure she stays here. She's too impulsive."

Noelle tried to argue, but Shao Yun pushed her into a chair. "No buts! Take care of yourself. You'll understand later."

With that, Shao Yun dashed back into the storm, rescuing the remaining citizens and guiding them to safety. As he worked, he kept an eye on the sky, muttering, "Hurry up, Traveler. The buildings won't hold much longer."

After ensuring everyone in the plaza was safe, Shao Yun returned to the store, where Noelle was waiting anxiously. "Is everyone—"

"Everyone's safe. The plaza is clear," Shao Yun assured her.

Noelle relaxed momentarily before realizing, "But what about the other areas?"

"Stop! Rest. The Knights will handle the rest. You need to protect yourself before you can help others," Shao Yun said, his tone softening as he began to reason with her. "I know you have a Vision, but you need to think about yourself too. If you get hurt or collapse, the people you've helped will worry about you."

He glanced at the other citizens, who quickly chimed in with their own words of concern. "That's right, Miss Noelle. We'd be heartbroken if you got hurt," one said.

"You don't have to push yourself so hard," another added.

Finally, Noelle relented, sitting down and waiting for the storm to pass. Though Mondstadt had faced dragon attacks before, this was the first time Stormterror had directly assaulted the city.

While others worried, Shao Yun remained calm. He knew the Traveler would arrive to save the day, and this moment would mark the beginning of their legend. There was no need to fret.
