Chapter 35: Chapter 35: Little Blue Vs Xiao
Mt. Aocang
In the ethereal heights of Jueyun Karst, a gathering of immortals (and beasts) had taken place. Word had spread quickly—Yu had come seeking advice on a matter concerning women. The news alone had been enough to summon every immortal in the vicinity, whether or not they had any helpful insights to offer.
Meanwhile, Little Blue lay contentedly in the mountain's pond, enjoying the meal of roasted fowl that Yu was feeding her. The deep blue of her body shimmered with a faint silver sheen, courtesy of the sunscreen Yu had applied earlier.
Upon seeing Yu's "pet," the gathered immortals couldn't help but exchange awkward glances. While most people kept cute and cuddly animals as companions, Yu… well, his choice of pet was the size of a Geovishap.
The first to speak was Mountain Shaper.
"Do you happen to know the girl's birth date and eight-character horoscope?"
Yu paused, deep in thought. Then he answered bluntly, "It's useless."
The moment he uttered those words, several fierce gazes locked onto him, and a chorus of reprimands soon followed.
"How could you not remember something so important as her birthday?" Guizhong was the first to scold him, her tone carrying the weight of someone who had suffered through similar neglect.
Ping shot Yu a disapproving glare.
Even Cloud Retainer offered her own criticism.
…
Meanwhile, elsewhere on the mountain—
"Xiao, where do you think my father has run off to?" Zhong Xiaochen asked her lifelong protector.
"Miss, I really don't know," Xiao replied with a hint of helplessness. Zhongli had explicitly forbidden him from revealing anything about his whereabouts.
"That's impossible! You're definitely hiding something from me!" Xiaochen insisted, her eyes narrowing suspiciously.
"Miss, I swear, I don't know."
Without warning, Xiaochen draped herself over Xiao's shoulder, her sudden closeness causing him to break into a nervous sweat. As her bodyguard, Xiao had watched her grow up. He was all too familiar with her lively and unpredictable personality—sometimes to the point of absurdity.
"Big Bro Xiao, you're sweating."
With a mischievous grin, Xiaochen ran a delicate finger across his forehead, then brought it to her lips and licked it gently. "Hmm… this tastes like someone telling a lie."
Xiao's eyes widened in shock, his expression turning stern. "Miss, please behave yourself."
Finally, Xiaochen withdrew, her hands covering her face as tears welled up in her eyes, giving her the appearance of a delicate flower drenched in rain. "Brother Xiao, I'm just worried that my old stone-headed father might screw things up again. I'm not trying to undermine him—I only want to help. You've been with me since I was little; please, help me this once. Please?"
Seeing her like this, Xiao's heart softened instantly. Who could bear to see such a sweet girl cry? Besides, thinking it over… perhaps she had a point. If it weren't for meeting Guizhong, Zhongli would likely still be a solitary bachelor. And Xiaochen, being clever as she was, might genuinely be able to help.
"Fine. I'll take you to him."
"Yay! Big Bro Xiao, you're the best!"
…
"Yu, do you know if that girl has any particular interests?" Ping asked.
"Interests? Let me think… yeah, she does."
At that moment, Cloud Retainer interjected, "Girls generally like sweets. Yu, you should try bringing her some. Surely that would win her favor."
Guizhong immediately countered, "Do you think everyone is as gluttonous as you? Why would someone as extraordinary as Yu fancy a girl with such shallow tastes?"
"What's wrong with liking good food? Are you implying refined people can't enjoy eating?"
As the two old rivals began bickering again, Yu suddenly spoke up.
"I remember now. Her interest is… combat."
The room fell into stunned silence.
Where on earth did you find such a rare specimen?
"Brother Yu, you're not talking about Sister Ei, are you?" Ganyu chimed in, finally understanding.
"That's right."
Meanwhile, Xiao and Xiaochen had reached the mountain's summit, where a surprise awaited them.
In the pond below, Little Blue sensed something unusual. Remembering Yu's instructions to keep strangers away, she glanced towards the arguing immortals, then quietly slithered out of the water.
"Miss, we're almost there," Xiao said.
"Big Bro Xiao, you're the best," Xiaochen replied with a radiant smile, so pure and sweet it was almost infectious.
Though Xiao remained stoic on the surface, his heart raced wildly. Why did he care so much about her? No, she's the daughter of the Geo Archon, the little princess of Liyue. It's normal for me, her sworn protector, to care for her.
Suddenly, a deep blue creature resembling a dragon lunged at them.
Seeing the attack, Xiao sprang into action. Strangely, he felt exhilarated, as if he were glad for an opportunity to protect his little princess again. Under normal circumstances, wouldn't he have preferred there to be no danger at all?
Poor Xiao didn't even realize he had wandered into someone else's pond. But given that his fellow Yaksha had all turned to stone, perhaps having a little princess around wasn't so bad after all.
Leaping forward, Xiao landed a powerful kick on the beast's face, sending it crashing into a nearby cliff. Yet, the creature seemed relatively unscathed.
Roar! (Damn it! You kicked off all the sunscreen my master applied!)
Enraged, Little Blue gathered an enormous amount of water energy in her mouth, preparing to launch an attack.
Xiao wasn't about to let that happen. He charged forward.
"Lemniscatic Wind Cycling!"
He pierced through Little Blue's water attack, scattering the elemental energy, then swept his spear in a broad arc.
Little Blue yelped in pain but retaliated with a swipe of her tail. Xiao was hit but endured the blow, grabbing her tail in an attempt to slam her into the ground.
Though Xiao might be small, his strength was immense. With a mighty heave, he slammed Little Blue into the earth. Not to be outdone, she channeled electrical energy throughout her body, determined to retaliate.
"Go, Big Bro Xiao!" Xiaochen cheered. Though she could fight too, she decided to give him the spotlight.
Xiao felt a surge of strength and hurled Little Blue once more.
"Big Bro Xiao, you're amazing!"
Furious, Little Blue gathered water and electricity into a devastating attack and unleashed it without warning. Caught off guard by the praise, Xiao failed to dodge in time and was struck.
"Little Blue! Stop, they're friends!" Yu's voice rang out as he appeared.
Hearing her master's command, Little Blue reluctantly stopped, swimming over to Yu and growling in complaint.
"Alright, I'll reapply the sunscreen and tend to your wounds later," Yu assured her.
Finally, Little Blue calmed down.
"Big Bro Xiao, are you okay?" Xiaochen caught him mid-air, concerned.
"I'm fine, Miss. Please let go. It's… a bit uncomfortable."
…
"I apologize on Little Blue's behalf. It was my instruction not to let strangers approach."
"You should apologize to Big Bro Xiao. He's the one who got hurt, not me."
"Xiao…"
"Brother Yu, my skills were lacking. That's why I got injured."
Little Blue growled softly in protest.
You have no idea how much that hurt!
"Enough."
"Xiaochen, behave yourself! This is Prince Yu of Sumeru standing before you, a true man of action—unlike you, a mere princess." Guizhong's voice carried the stern authority of a mother scolding her child.
"Yes, Mother." Outwardly obedient, Xiaochen inwardly fumed. Ugh, now my mother's getting involved! So annoying! She's the worst!
But a prince? Glancing at Little Blue again, Xiaochen's mind whirled. A prince and a beast? This is perfect! I must win him over!
"Mother, have you figured out how to help Mr. Yu with his… romantic issue?" Xiaochen asked, cleverly steering the topic.
Guizhong's expression froze. Though she prided herself on being knowledgeable, her own love story wasn't exactly one to emulate—she had spent most of it pining and playing second fiddle. As for the other immortals? They were just a bunch of old bachelors. Even Ganyu's advice had been questionable at best, suggesting something as mundane as offering sweets. That was ridiculous. How could a remarkable man like Yu fall for someone so ordinary?
"Mother, how about this—I'll accompany Mr. Yu to meet that woman. I can get a better read on her and try persuading her to fall for him."
Inwardly, Xiaochen added, And if it doesn't work out, I'll just ruin it for them! Even if it does work out, I can always join in. If she's beautiful, I want her too!
Guizhong considered it. Hmm… this girl has always been clever. She'd make an excellent matchmaker. Very well, it's settled.
"You'll go with him."
