Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Fu Hua’s Luck is Still So Bad
The version of Honkai III given as part of the system's novice package was absolutely flawless, leaving Mo Li with no plans to issue internal test quotas.
However, Bronya remained skeptical. She didn't know about the system and was worried about potential issues.
"Boss, you really should consider an internal test," Bronya urged, her voice calm but firm. "We need to check for bugs, test character balance, and ensure the server can handle the influx. You know how popular this game is already."
Mo Li sighed. She's not wrong, he thought. After all, the game had already surpassed one million reservations, and the public beta would undoubtedly attract even more players. Reluctantly, he agreed to her request, putting aside his work and inviting everyone to test the content of version 1.1.
To lighten the mood, he declared, "Let's call this testing session... quality control with perks!"
Soon, the studio was filled with the sound of keyboards clicking, excited chatter, and occasional bursts of laughter as everyone immersed themselves in the game.
"Boss, isn't the card draw rate way too low?"
Mo Li turned at the unfamiliar voice. He was surprised to see it was Fu Hua, the usually composed and reserved one, looking somewhat exasperated.
"I've already drawn 90 times, and Queen of Thunder's Ghost Armor still hasn't shown up!" she complained, frustration evident in her tone.
Mo Li walked over, peeking at her screen. "You're sure you're pulling from the right pool?"
The sight on her monitor made him pause. Even with a guaranteed character system, Fu Hua's luck was unbelievably poor.
Ji Zi strolled over, glanced at Fu Hua's screen, and burst into laughter. "Haha, Fu Hua, your luck really hasn't changed. Always this bad!"
Rita, ever the composed one, smiled faintly. "It only took me 60 pulls to get not just Ghost Armor but also Moonlight Armor. The odds seem just fine to me."
Mo Li shook his head with a grin. "Don't worry, Fu Hua. You're already at 90 pulls. The system guarantees you'll get it in the next ten."
With a resigned sigh, Fu Hua tapped the ten-pull button.
Finally, the words appeared: [Queen of Thunder's Ghost Armor]
Her lips twitched into a small, triumphant smile. "So this... is the thrill of gacha pulls. I can see how it might tempt people to spend more."
Bronya's indifferent voice cut in. "Boss, we should consider lowering the pull rates."
Mo Li blinked. "Lowering the rates? Why?"
Bronya explained, "In this version, the crystals obtained from the main story alone are enough for 20 pulls. Combine that with the public beta rewards, and getting two S-rank armors feels too easy."
Rita chimed in, "That's true. S-rank armors should feel a bit more exclusive."
Fu Hua's brief moment of joy vanished. "Come on, I just got this armor after 100 pulls, and now you're saying it's too easy?"
Mo Li chuckled and turned serious. "Actually, Ghost Armor and Moonlight are just stepping stones. They'll soon be outclassed by stronger characters."
He looked at each of them. "By the way, where is everyone in the main story?"
Rita answered first, "Chapter 4."
Ji Zi smirked. "I'm on Chapter 6."
Bronya shrugged. "I've only finished Chapter 2. I spent most of my time testing the Abyss and the battlefield modes."
Mo Li nodded. "And how do you find those modes?"
Bronya, ever the perfectionist, replied, "Too easy for me. But for the average player, I'd say the difficulty feels just right."
"Good to know." Mo Li smiled. Bronya's reputation as a gaming master made her feedback particularly valuable.
Suddenly, Youlander gasped, drawing everyone's attention.
"What's wrong, Youlander? Did you find a bug?" Ji Zi asked, leaning over curiously.
"No, not a bug..." Youlander muttered, staring intently at her screen. "It's just... my sister has become a villain."
The others crowded around her monitor, their eyes widening. On the screen, Kiana stood clad in a dazzling, regal outfit. Her snow-white hair flowed freely, and her piercing gaze radiated cold indifference.
The scene showed Kiana grabbing Mei by the neck, her aura exuding an almost godlike authority as she seemed ready to crush her.
The room fell silent, everyone digesting the unexpected twist.
Finally, they all turned to Mo Li, their eyes full of questions.
"Did you really make Kiana the villain?" their expressions seemed to ask.
Mo Li coughed awkwardly. "It's not what you think. Kiana isn't the villain—she's being controlled by the Herrscher."
Before anyone could press further, he added, "You'll understand once you play through the story. Trust me, the plot is one of this game's biggest highlights."
Reassured, the girls returned their focus to the screen, though their curiosity about the story grew stronger.
As they continued, awe filled the room.
"This... this is like watching a high-quality anime," Ji Zi said, her eyes glued to the monitor.
The short film of [The Queen's Arrival] left everyone stunned. The animation quality, the music, and the storytelling blended perfectly, immersing them in the experience.
Even Bronya, who rarely showed emotion, couldn't help but nod in approval. "This... will be a huge hit."
Mo Li stood back, watching the group's reactions with a satisfied smile. This is just the beginning, he thought. The gaming world isn't ready for what's coming.
