Chapter 10: Chapter 10: The Girls Are Actually Being Targeted?
Outside the Studio
Zhao Yi sat in his car, his face dark and brooding.
It wasn't Youlander abruptly hanging up the call that upset him—it was her parting words.
"New boss?"
He stared silently at the door of Mi Huyou Studio, his mind racing.
Zhao Yi had stumbled upon Mi Huyou Studio by accident. The moment he saw Youlander, he was stunned.
Her flawless face and graceful, elegant figure seemed as though she had stepped out of a comic book. From that first glance, her image was seared into his memory.
Intrigued, he began investigating and discovered that Mi Huyou Studio was struggling financially, barely making ends meet. The opportunity seemed perfect for someone like him.
When he visited the studio under the pretense of investment talks, he was blown away. Aside from Youlander, the studio was filled with women who could only be described as top-tier beauties. The place felt like paradise to him.
Naturally, he made up his mind. His goal was clear: win over Youlander at all costs. She was not only the most striking of the group but also, in his opinion, the easiest to charm.
But there was one problem. When it came time to discuss investments, Zhao Yi hit a wall.
He didn't actually have the money to invest.
Still, he wasn't ready to give up. Pretending to evaluate their operations, he started visiting frequently to get closer to the women. But Rita and the others quickly saw through his act. After that, the studio's doors were firmly shut to him.
Now, sitting outside the building, Zhao Yi clenched his fists in frustration.
"Damn it, I'm too late…"
He glared at the entrance to the studio.
Thanks to connections through his uncle, Zhao Yi had recently become a game producer at one of Penguin's subsidiaries. Under his uncle's guidance, a game he had planned was about to launch.
When the game succeeded, he expected to rake in a considerable amount of money. But that would take at least another month or two. Impatient, Zhao Yi had borrowed two million from a friend, hoping to secure Mi Huyou Studio before his game released.
His plan was simple. Instead of buying the studio outright—because the girls might leave if he did—he would offer an investment. This would give him an excuse to visit often and, in time, win them over.
He knew it was a financial loss, but for the chance to get close to the girls, Zhao Yi was willing to take the hit.
Unfortunately, the plan had failed before it even began. Someone had beaten him to it.
"The new boss, huh? I need to see who this guy is!" Zhao Yi cursed under his breath. He picked up his phone and dialed Youlander again.
The phone rang several times before it was finally answered.
Adjusting his tone to sound as friendly as possible, he spoke. "Miss Youlander, could you pass the phone to your new boss? I'd like to discuss an investment opportunity."
On the other end, Youlander's voice was cool and distant. "I spoke to the boss. He said there's no need for outside investments. Sorry."
Zhao Yi's expression darkened.
"Could I at least meet your new boss?"
There was a pause before Youlander replied calmly, "Our studio is busy preparing for the launch of a new game. The boss is unavailable."
Zhao Yi pressed on. "I'm at the entrance of your studio right now. It won't take long."
"Apologies, but the boss isn't here," Youlander said flatly. "He's out handling advertising negotiations. I'm afraid I can't help you."
Before Zhao Yi could respond, she added, "I really have to go. Goodbye, Mr. Zhao."
Panicking, Zhao Yi blurted out, "Wait! Is your new boss male or female?"
The words slipped out before he could stop himself.
Realizing how desperate he sounded, he hurriedly explained, "I just want to know who I'll be dealing with if there's a future opportunity. I'm genuinely optimistic about your studio's potential."
"Our new boss is a man," Youlander replied, her tone colder than ever. "As for future opportunities, if the boss has time, I'll let him know. Goodbye."
The line went dead, leaving Zhao Yi staring at his phone in disbelief.
"Damn it!"
He slammed his hands against the steering wheel, frustration boiling over.
"A bunch of fake, high-and-mighty women… Watch how they start groveling when I have money!" he muttered angrily. "A new game? Let's see what kind of trash they come up with!"
Inside the Studio
After hanging up, Youlander couldn't help but sigh.
"That guy is unbelievable. Why would he care about the boss's gender?"
Mo Li, sitting nearby, chuckled. "Seriously, what's his deal? Was he planning to ask me out?"
At this, Rita and Jizi exchanged amused glances before bursting into laughter.
They weren't oblivious to Zhao Yi's intentions. From the moment he first visited, they had seen through him. It was clear he wasn't interested in investment—his eyes were always on the women in the studio.
Still, they chose not to explain Zhao Yi's motives to Mo Li. Instead, Rita gave him a brief summary of Zhao Yi's antics.
"So that's what he's been up to," Mo Li said, nodding thoughtfully. "Honestly, I don't blame him. Chasing girls takes persistence, right?"
Rita and Jizi laughed again, but they didn't comment further.
"Anyway," Mo Li said, rising from his chair, "let's focus on the important stuff. The game launch is just around the corner. Everyone, get ready—we're about to shake up the industry!"
Later That Day
As Zhao Yi drove away from the studio, his thoughts swirled with frustration and determination.
He couldn't let this go. Mi Huyou Studio was supposed to be his stepping stone—not just in the gaming world but in his personal ambitions as well.
"The new boss is a guy, huh? I'll find out who you are soon enough," he muttered, gripping the steering wheel tightly.
For now, all he could do was wait. But he vowed to himself: this wasn't over.
The girls, meanwhile, were oblivious to Zhao Yi's lingering schemes. All their attention was on the upcoming game launch.
Little did they know, Zhao Yi wasn't the only one keeping an eye on them.
