Chapter 21: The first changing point

Kaitou took a deep breath before beginning.

"It's a long story…"

For the next five minutes, he recounted everything about the mission from his perspective.

Tobirama listened in silence, his face betraying nothing. Yet, deep inside, he was filled with both shock and anger. Shock that such a dangerous scheme had gone unnoticed, and anger toward the Shimura and Sarutobi clans for their betrayal.

Even before Kaitou had finished his report, Tobirama was already calculating how to make them pay. The possibility that Kaitou was lying never even crossed his mind.

When Kaitou finally concluded, a heavy silence settled over the room.

Then, to Kaitou's surprise, Tobirama suddenly bowed his head.

"Kaitou… I'm sorry. I've failed you."

His voice was filled with sincerity and regret. It was clear that Tobirama wasn't just disappointed in the betrayal - he was furious at himself for allowing Kaitou to be placed in such danger.

Kaitou blinked in surprise. He hadn't expected *this*.

"You said you captured some of them, right?" Tobirama continued, his expression hardening. "If so, we should bring Brother and Inosuke here as well. I trust Inosuke with my life, he and his clan were long allies to us Senju and always supported us in times of conflict, and if you trust me just one more time, I promise you this- I will bring everyone involved to justice!"

The sheer determination in his words left no room for doubt. Whatever fate awaited the traitors, it would be merciless.

"Alright then," Kaitou replied after a moment. He had never blamed Tobirama for any of this, and he himself only wanted to see this matter through to the end. "Can you bring Uncle Hashirama and Lord Inosuke here? I'd rather wait in hiding for now. My illusions are strong, but not invincible."

"Yes, I'll find them immediately," Tobirama agreed. Then, as if considering an extra layer of precaution, he added, "For safety's sake, reactivate your Illusion Sand. Only deactivate it when I return. If someone attempts to impersonate me, remember – It will only be me, if I return using the 'Flying Thunder God Jutsu' with the others."

Kaitou nodded, then once again cloaked himself in his illusions. Only when he was certain the technique was active did Tobirama leave.

Alone in the room, Kaitou remained on high alert. While the scenario Tobirama described was unlikely, he knew better than to dismiss the possibility entirely.

Ten minutes passed.

Then- knock knock… knock-knock

It was a short, familiar rhythm - the exact way Tobirama always knocked when coming to pick him up for training.

Immediately, Kaitou tensed.

A few seconds later, three figures stepped into the room - Tobirama, Hashirama, and Inosuke. Once they were inside, Tobirama closed the door behind them and spoke.

"I'm back. I brought them."

Silence.

Kaitou said nothing in response.

Then, as the three men stepped further into the room, seemingly looking around for him- seals lit up beneath their feet.

In an instant, all three were momentarily paralyzed, and before they could react, golden chains erupted from seemingly nowhere, wrapping around them and binding them in place.

The moment those chains touched them, a *hiss* filled the air. Smoke rose from their bodies.

Their transformation were instantly dispelled.

When the smoke cleared, standing before Kaitou were, as expected, not his uncles or Inosuke.

Instead, he found himself staring at three impostors - one from the Shimura clan, one from the Sarutobi clan, and one from the Hyūga clan.

Kaitou remained silent. There was no point in questioning them - they wouldn't talk. Besides, the real Tobirama and the others would be here soon.

Keeping his grip firm on his sword, he dragged the bound traitors toward the far wall, ensuring they were positioned where he could keep an eye on them.

Then, he waited.

Looking at the Hyuga, he could see that he was hiding his forehead, Kaitou estimated that he was a member of the branch family, being held captive by the 'Caged Bird Seal'.

While the immediate priority was dealing with the conspiracy, Kaitou recognized the opportunity hidden within this situation. If he played this right, he could use this as leverage - to push for a reform in the seal's function. Not to enslave the branch family, but simply to protect the Byakugan from falling into enemy hands.

But that was a concern for later.

It only took about 3 more minutes, before the three people he was waiting for appeared in the middle of the room. Upon seeing Kaitou and the three bound people, both Inosuke and Hashirama visibly became more serious. It couldn't be helped, they were suddenly asked by Tobirama to come with him, without him providing any details.

Now standing in front of them, Tobirama stepped to Kaitous side, both began to fill in the other two into this. Both of them were visibly shocked as well. Towards the end, Kaitou also pulled out the Storage Seal containing his previous captives inside.

Now in on the story, Hashirama acted first, he quickly made some hand seals, the bound individuals at the far wall were then bound by his wood release, to release Kaitou of that burden, as he knew from his wife, that the 'Adamantine Sealing Chains' were very taxing on the users chakra.

"Don't worry Kaitou, I can easily bind them all in place and stop them from doing anything, so could you release them from the Seal?" asked Hashirama in a comforting and confident tone.

"Okay, then I'm gonna release them, be careful though, they should wake up after a few seconds. You need to bind them immediately after they are released," answered Kaitou.

He then counted down, and when the count reached zero he released them from the scroll with a hand seal, with another *puff* of smoke there were now the three remaining shinobi from his mission.

Upon the release of these three, Hashirama immediately used his Wood Release to bind all of them, rendering them completely useless.

What was supposed to followed afterwards was why they even called for Inosuke, while they knew that they couldn't look into the memories of the Hyuga without triggering certain effects of the 'Caged Bird Seal'.

Kaitou could potentially modify the seal, he couldn't do it on the spot, so they had to leave him out of the interrogation.

They then started the whole process, noting down everything of importance to unmask this whole conspiracy. All of this took multiple hours as a whole, because of the need for even the smallest part and while they knew that the way they were doing this could lead to some trust issues in the future among the Clan Leaders, they had to go through with this now.

It was close to midnight when they fully finished this operation, with everything noted down, the full on finishing move was planned for the next day. In a conference with all the Clan Heads present.

With this in mind all of them stayed in Tobirama's lodge for the rest of the night and chose to rest for a bit.

Kaitou knew, tomorrow was the day were the first major turning point of his existence in this world will probably happen. It wasn't the impact he wanted to make on the world, but it was the one that will happen, he had full confidence in this endeavor.
