Gamer, fixing the fates of fictional characters

Chapter 20: Return

Kaitou woke up a few minutes after, his [Gamers Body] helped him recover his stamina and chakra faster than others after all. While not at full strength again, he knew he couldn't just lay here for too long, before real bandits find him.

With his mind still clear and his emotions not affected, because of the [Gamers Mind], he thought about everything that just happened.

'I killed someone,' was the first clear thought that came up, but he also realized something else through this encounter, 'I guess, I was too optimistic before, saying to save everyone… seems like some people are really innately evil and don't deserve help.'

While he normally should dwell more on the first part, his skill helped him in thinking more rationally about the grander picture.

He looked over to his, currently restrained, assailants. He didn't really harbor any real anger towards them, but he knew that if he didn't finish this properly, then there would be similar situations on his future path.

'I either let them completely disappear and clear all the sign of the confrontation, or bring them back and hope that Inosuke or even more were not involved in this. If it was just these two clans, then it while it would be a loss for the current forces, it wouldn't be such a devastating loss. But if even more are involved…' Kaitou didn't finish this thought, but he was sure that right now the people he can trust the most would be his uncles, and he chose to believe in their judgement of the situation.

With his conclusion made he stored all the unconscious captives in one of his Grandmaster Storage Seals, that could hold living beings for some time, and slowly made his way back.

He waited for his strength to come back fully, before speeding up again.

On the way he thought of something else, he killed someone, so shouldn't he have gotten Exp from them, this was at least the normal way how it should have went.

'System,' he called out in his mind while slowing a bit.

[Yes, Host?]

'What happened, did they not bring any Exp or was there some kind of problem?'

[Negative, the System acted autonomously and deactivated the notification function, to not interrupt the Host while fighting.]

'Ah, thanks. That could have indeed been a bit distracting. Can you activate the notifications again, then?

[Affirmative]

[Level up]

[Level up]

[Level up]

[… ]

The level up notifications didn't stop for a few seconds, at the end he leveled up seventeen times.

'Seventeen levels? Just like that?' Kaitou asked slightly surprised by the bunch of Exp he got from the small group, he after all didn't even kill all of them. From his memory only four of them actually died.

[Affirmative Host, the Level boost is due to the User's low level and the strength of the assailants. The current strength of the Host, was cultivated through training and can not be summarized by his level.]

'Well, that certainly sounds plausible, most of them should have been on high Chūnin and lower to mid Jōnin level. It is actually quite surprising, that I won. I guess I can only attribute this to my [Gamers Body] and [Gamers Mind], as well as to my Kekkei Genkai. They were just too useful for such a situation.'

He decided to put the changes of his status and his levels to the back of his mind for now, he had to remain cautious right now and wouldn't risk anything.

He sped back, though he used the less traveled paths and went through the deeper forested regions, resulting in a slightly longer travel. After a couple of hours, and after traveling through the whole night, he saw the outer most parts of the camp.

Kaitou moved even more carefully from there on, his footsteps silent as he neared the outer perimeter of the Konoha encampment. He had no idea how deep the conspiracy ran, but one thing was certain - someone was expecting him not to return. If there were more people involved, then his reappearance might trigger an immediate response.

Rather than taking the main path, he circled around, keeping to the shadows, his Illusion Sand passively distorting his presence. Even if someone was keeping watch, they'd see nothing but empty forest where he stood.

As he approached the settlement, his mind raced. Who should he go to?

Madara? Possibly. His uncle had a keen eye for deception and had no love for political games. But approaching him directly would attract attention and he was known for being a bit too direct, making the plans for a village nigh impossible for the future.

Hashirama? While often behaving childish and goofy around his friends and trusted aids, he was still a very capable shinobi, but Kaitou knew, Hashirama was too much of an optimist, he would after all just give away the Bijuu in the future, to possible enemies. Kaitou couldn't risk it.

Tobirama.

The name came to him almost instinctively. The man was paranoid, ruthless, and calculating - but above all else, he valued the stability of their growing village and was truly kind to his loved ones. If the Shimura and Sarutobi had moved against Kaitou for political reasons, Tobirama wouldn't tolerate their interference, not when everything was still being built.

Decision made, Kaitou adjusted his path, slipping deeper into the camp's outskirts, aiming for Tobirama's quarters.

Then he felt it.

A weird tension hung in the air.

While not perceptible for most, Kaitou who was in a complete state of alarm felt it, most of the surrounding Sarutobi and Shimura Shinobi seemed to be waiting for something.

He knew he had to hurry and remain undetected, for now. While they couldn't act inside the camp for obvious reasons, namely Madara and Hashirama, it would give them more time to prepare for future developments.

Kaitou decided to use a technique that he had learned not too long ago. It took too much of chakra to be used effectively in a fight yet, but it was perfect for the current situation.

He closed his eyes for a moment and tried to sense something, as soon as he did, his eyes snapped open and he made a hand seal.

'Flying thunder God Jutsu'

After using the Jutsu he directly disappeared from his previous spot and landed inside of Tobirama's quarters. As expected of someone of his caliber, he acted immediately and pulled out his sword, looking around warily.

"Whoever you are, you have guts to attack in the middle of the day, inside of our base camp." Tobirama said, while scanning the room for any signs.

"It is me uncle, pls calm down," answered Kaitou only then deactivating his Illusion Sands, and stepping back with his hands raised, to show surrender.

"Kaitou? What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be on a mission right now, with Toubei and his Team?" asked Tobirama genuinely confused by the sudden arrival.

"Good, it seems like you really didn't know of it, I believed it would be this way, but couldn't be too sure. I'm glad to see you," Kaitou said before breathing out in relieve and stepping close to hug his uncle.

This made Tobirama even more perplexed, as Kaitou was normally no one to show such affection, but he knew it was really him, as he didn't detect any chakra fluctuations around him and one couldn't change an individual's chakra signature to perfectly match someone else.

"What happened to you Kaitou?" after a short gentle hug, Tobirama couldn't hold back his curiosity anymore.

Upon hearing this, Kaitous demeanor turned serious, Tobirama also instantly felt the change and also knew something had happened.

Then Kaitou started, "It is a long story… "
