Chapter 17: First Session

Even after studying the 'Flying Thunder God Seal' till late at night, he woke up early again to start his training. He didn't know what the first lesson would be, but nonetheless he was excited. The study on the seal was also coming along, he estimated to learn and master it in a few weeks.

When he went down to the kitchen area his mother was already seated at the table and waited with breakfast. After their usual morning talks they heard a knock on the door.

Outside were his Uncles, Hashirama and Tobirama, "Ready for the start of your first lesson, Kaitou?" asked the always energetic older brother.

"What are we starting on today?"

"For today we'll focus on your kekkei Genkai training, you could also ask your mother if she wants to join us, after all she is here to teach you the Hozuki family technique."

Upon hearing this, Kaitou quickly went inside and together with his mother came out a few minutes later. The group then went back to the same training ground they used yesterday. Hashirama created a few chairs and benches to sit on to explain what they were gonna focus on in these sessions.

"Alright, Kaitou," Hashirama began, his tone a mix of excitement and encouragement as he gestured toward the makeshift seating area. "Today, we're going to focus on your Kekkei Genkai - both of them, to be exact. You're already aware of their potential, but unlocking their true strength and learning how to use them efficiently is a completely different matter. This is also the reason we two are your teachers for these sessions, as we are the best suited to help you in developing those kekkei genkais without a proper reader in those elements. I have after all my wood release with which I had to experiment a lot to let it grow to the strength it has today and Tobirama is unparalleled when it comes to developing new Jutsu."

Kaitou sat forward eagerly, his golden eyes gleaming with anticipation. His mother, sitting beside him, smiled softly. "It's important to start with a solid foundation, Kaitou. Remember, our clan's techniques require a level of control that can only be achieved through discipline and patience. I will start teaching it to you when I deem your progress sufficient."

Tobirama, standing a bit off to the side with his arms crossed, chimed in. "Before we dive into specifics, let's assess how well you can access your Kekkei Genkai. We know you have Lava Release and Swamp Release, both rare and incredibly versatile. But to utilize them effectively, you need to understand their nature fully."

Hashirama nodded in agreement. "We'll start with Lava Release. It's a combination of fire and earth, so mastering it requires not only strength but also the ability to balance two conflicting natures: heat and solidity."

Tobirama stepped forward. "I've prepared a few exercises for this. First, you'll practice creating and controlling small amounts of lava. The goal is to manipulate its temperature and flow without letting it get out of hand. Lava Release can easily backfire if you're reckless."

"And after that?" Kaitou asked, his voice tinged with curiosity.

"We'll move on to Swamp Release," Tobirama replied. "It's an unusual Kekkei Genkai, a blend of earth and water that creates a dense, viscous material. Its strength lies in its ability to immobilize and trap enemies, but it's incredibly chakra-intensive. Learning to create it efficiently will be key."

Hashirama clapped his hands together, his trademark enthusiasm returning. "Let's not waste any more time! Kaitou, stand over there, and we'll get started with the Lava Release exercises. Tobirama and I will guide you step by step."

Kaitou rose to his feet and walked to the center of the training ground, his mother and uncles following close behind. Hashirama placed a large, flat rock in front of him, while Tobirama conjured a small flame in his hand.

"Alright, Kaitou," Tobirama instructed, "focus your chakra into your palms and imagine combining the properties of earth and fire. Start with a small amount - too much at once, and you risk losing control."

Kaitou nodded and closed his eyes, concentrating deeply. He visualized the sturdiness of earth merging with the intensity of fire, his chakra molding the two elements together. At first, there was nothing. But as he focused harder, a small blob of molten rock began to form in his hands, glowing orange and radiating heat.

"Good," Tobirama said, his sharp eyes monitoring every detail. "Now try to shape it. Don't just let it sit there - control its flow and keep the temperature stable."

Kaitou gritted his teeth, sweat forming on his brow as he directed the lava to stretch and move. It was slow and clumsy at first, but with each attempt, his control improved. Soon, he was able to create a thin stream of lava, guiding it in a circle around the rock.

Hashirama laughed, clapping his hands. "Fantastic! You've got a natural talent for this, Kaitou. Keep practicing, and soon you'll be able to use it in combat."

"Not bad," Tobirama admitted grudgingly. "But don't get ahead of yourself. Lava Release is one of the most destructive Kekkei Genkai. If you lose control, you'll hurt yourself and everyone around you. Precision is more important than power."

After an hour of practice with Lava Release, they moved on to Swamp Release. For this, Hashirama created a large pool of water while Tobirama softened the surrounding ground.

"Swamp Release requires a different approach," Tobirama explained. "Unlike Lava Release, which relies on intensity, this technique is about density and persistence. You'll need to combine earth and water to create a thick, mud-like substance. Start small, like before."

Kaitou crouched near the edge of the pool, dipping his hands into the water. This time, he focused on blending the fluidity of water with the stability of earth, channeling his chakra into the mixture. The water began to thicken, turning into a murky sludge that clung to his fingers.

"Good start," his mother said, her voice calm but encouraging. "Now, try to expand it. Imagine the swamp spreading outward, consuming everything in its path."

Kaitou took a deep breath and poured more chakra into the technique. The sludge grew thicker, spreading across the ground and forming a small, sticky patch of swamp. It wasn't perfect - there were inconsistencies in its texture - but it was a promising first attempt.

"You did a good job with that, for the next few sessions with your Kekkei Genkais we will mainly focus on building your foundation and understanding of them, before we move on to more complex things,"came the Voice of Tobirama who stood next to him after properly examining the little swamp formed.

"Yeah, and if you have any questions you can always just ask them," Hashirama injected from the other side.

With the offer now given, Kaitou wouldn't let it go so easy, he knew this was a good chance for him.

"Uncle, could you show me a few of your 'Wood Release' techniques?" Kaitou asked with sincerity in his voice.

"Hahaha, Sure sure," was the answer Kaitou received.

Then before Hashirama could fully start with his show, Kaitou started channeling his chakra into his eyes for the first time. The effect made him a bit nauseous, as he wasn't used to the 360* sight that came with his eyes.

He stumbled lightly before getting the hang of it. It still felt weird for him, but at least he wasn't feeling nauseous anymore. When he then focused on Hashirama showcasing his Wood Release he tried to look a bit deeper, and managed to get a look at his chakra network and how it formed the Jutsu.

"Wood Release: Wood Human Jutsu"

When Hashirama finished forming his seals and released the Jutsu, Kaitou was stunned, for two reasons though. First, it was amazing to see such a Jutsu being used up close and the second reason was something entirely different.

"Uncle… is this always how you use your Wood Release?" asked Kaitou in a weird tone.

Hashirama unsure of Kaitou's intentions answered freely, "Eh, yeah, that is how I normally use them. Was there something wrong with it?

"No no, nothing was wrong, it was just…," Kaitou wasn't sure how to really say it, but upon seeing the curious gazes of the three people around him, he just said it straight, "Uncle I don think your Wood Release is a Kekkei Genkai… it seems more like a Kekkei Tōta, if the Yang chakra you imbued in it counts."

When he finished there was a sudden silence and all gazes switched between him and Hashirama, even he himself looked at his hands in surprise.

"Are you sure? How do you even know that? I know, my Wood Release is a very weird Kekkei Genkai, but… it shouldn't be something like a Kekkei Tōta, right?" Hashirama finished, clearly flustered but also intrigued. His brows furrowed in thought as he stared at his hands, as if seeing them in a new light.

"I'm sure, Uncle," Kaitou said, his voice firm but hesitant as he tried to explain. "When I tried out my eyes just now, I could see how your chakra flowed and formed the Wood Release technique. It wasn't just Earth and Water chakra like I expected. There was a significant amount of Yang chakra mixed in - it's part of the foundation of the Jutsu itself."

Tobirama's eyes narrowed, his sharp mind immediately picking up on the implications. "Interesting... A Kekkei Tōta? That would mean it's more advanced than a Kekkei Genkai. Three chakra natures being combined instead of just two."

Hashirama blinked, his mouth opening and closing as he processed the information. "Wait, wait - so you're telling me my Wood Release… isn't just Earth and Water? There's Yang chakra involved? But how come no one's noticed this before?"

"Well," Kaitou said, shrugging slightly, "I don't really know about that, I just know that my eyes let me see your whole chakra networks and how they interacted during the Jutsu formation."

Tobirama crossed his arms, a contemplative expression settling on his face. "If this is true, it could explain why no one else has been able to replicate your Wood Release, despite numerous attempts. Combining two chakra natures is difficult enough, but adding a third - especially something as elusive as Yang chakra - makes it nearly impossible for anyone without your natural affinity."

Hashirama rubbed the back of his neck, laughing nervously. "Well, that would explain a lot, wouldn't it? I just thought it was, you know, a special talent. I never really questioned it!"

Kaitou couldn't help but shake his head. "Uncle, you've been using something like this the whole, and you didn't even realize it was a Kekkei Tōta? That's... kind of unbelievable."

Hashirama chuckled sheepishly, but his expression quickly turned serious. "This actually changes things. If my Wood Release really is a Kekkei Tōta, then I've been underestimating its complexity. I'll have to reevaluate how I teach and use it."

Tobirama nodded. "This revelation also highlights the importance of Kaitou's Dōjutsu, we all always wondered what it could do. Being able to analyze chakra networks and techniques at this level is invaluable. Kaitou, you might be able to help us uncover even more about our abilities - things we've overlooked or misunderstood. This could potentially elevate some of our techniques to a whole new level."

Kaitou felt a swell of pride at his uncle's words, but he quickly tempered it with humility. "I'll do my best to help, Uncle Tobirama. But I'm still getting used to these eyes. The 360-degree vision is... a lot to handle."

His mother, who had been quiet up until now, placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "You'll get used to it with time, Kaitou. Just don't rush. Learning to control your this will be just as important as mastering your Kekkei Genkai."

Hashirama clapped his hands together, his signature grin returning. "Alright then! Let's take this new information and use it to improve our training. Kaitou, your chakra should still be on the lower side right? Why don't you keep observing my chakra flow while I try a few other techniques then? Maybe you'll spot something else we've missed."

Kaitou nodded eagerly. "Of course, Uncle. Let's do it."

The rest of the session was spent experimenting with Hashirama's Wood Release while Kaitou carefully studied his chakra network, offering insights and observations that left even Tobirama impressed. By the end of the day, Kaitou felt exhausted but exhilarated.

Even if they spent quite some time going over his Uncles Wood Release, he still managed to make good Progress, both with his Kekkei Genkai and his Dōjutsu. He also found ways to grow even stronger and maybe fulfill his quest even faster than anticipated.
