Game Over : Marvel Reboot

Chapter 8: Episode 8: The World That Were Left Behind.

As the final countdown of YGGDRASIL reached zero, the Great Tomb of Nazarick came alive in ways no one could have anticipated. The NPCs, once bound by programming, now moved with purpose and sentience, all of them retained the memories from their days as an NPC, but for them that day were as normal as it can get and their loyalty to the Supreme Beings unwavering, knowing that for the Nazarick inhabitants, the fact that only one of the Supreme Being left and stayed with them through the end, made their unwavering loyalty turned frantic worship. But for Sebastian Wilfred, the Ultimate Butler of the Shadow Order, the awakening was bittersweet.

Unlike the others in Nazarick, who had their Supreme One to serve, Sebastian woke to a devastating reality. His master, Sai Yuki, the Shadow Overlord, lay lifeless on the bed in one of Nazarick's guest rooms. The man he had sworn to serve, the one who had treated him not as a mere NPC but as a trusted friend, was gone. For hours, Sebastian stood motionless at the edge of the bed, his piercing gaze fixed on Sai's serene and motionless face. His mind raced with disbelief and sorrow, his once programmed heart now become utterly real, aching with a grief he had never known. He prayed silently, willing his master to wake up, to rise from his eternal slumber. But the reality was unyielding—Sai was gone.

The weight of that realization struck Sebastian like a tidal wave. Tears streamed down his face as he fell to his knees, his usually composed demeanor shattered. He wailed in anguish, his voice echoing through the empty room. The pain was unbearable, a void that no logic or programming could fill. For someone who was created with a purpose to serve, the lose of that purpose were unimaginable, the cause for life is gone, and for someone like Sebastian, without a purpose, is his life now even worth living.

"Master…" he whispered, his voice trembling. "WHY!!… why did you leave me?"

But there was no answer, only the silence of the room and the faint hum of Nazarick's magic in the air.

As the first night passed, Sebastian's grief began to subside, replaced by a quiet resolve. He remembered the final moments he had shared with Sai, standing outside Nazarick under the starry sky. Sai had spoken of his impending death, his voice calm and reassuring.

"Don't worry about me, Sebastian," Sai had said, his gaze fixed on the heavens. "We'll meet again. This isn't the end."

At the time, Sebastian had dismissed the words as mere comfort, a way to ease his concern. But now, as he sat in the dimly lit room, those words took on a new meaning. Sai had known what was coming, and he had prepared for it, when they were alone, he would always go into rambling about a lot of odd things, he talked a lot about his death, and yet most of the time he never looked worried or even ad about it. He had left instructions, a journal, and a promise of reunion.

Sebastian's mind wandered further back, to the day he had first met Sai. Touch Me, the Supreme Being who had created him, had introduced him to Sai with a sense of pride.

"Sebastian, this is Sai Yuki. He is a man worthy of your loyalty… Although he seems like too lax and goofy all the time, he is a good man…"

"Hey, come on dude…I'm just…. hmm…overly positive?".

Even at their first meeting, Sai has always been a calming and chill person, at that time Sebastian had bowed deeply, his voice steady as he greeted the man. "It would be an honor to serve you, Master Sai."

From that day forward, Sebastian had dedicated himself to Sai, accompanying him on countless adventures, from the rise of the Shadow Order to the conquest of the nine realms, a feat that no one, even the Great Nine Own Goal, the guild where his created comes from had ever done, Sai, on his own able to achieved it all alone, and with no one knows about it. He had witnessed Sai's coronation as the Shadow Overlord, a moment of triumph that had solidified his master's legacy, Starting and era where a small mercenary group could wage a war against massive guilds. Those memories, vivid and unyielding, now fueled Sebastian's determination even more.

With a deep breath, Sebastian reached into his inner jacket and pulled out the journal Sai had given him. The leather-bound book felt heavy in his hands, a tangible reminder of his master's foresight. He opened it to the first page, his eyes scanning the familiar handwriting.

"To my ever so loyal, trusted, and only friend, Sebastian Wilfred. If you are reading this, it means I have passed."

Sebastian's eyes watered as he read the words, but he forced himself to continue. The journal was filled with detailed instructions, insights about the new world Sai had spoken of, and a heartfelt message of reassurance.

"Do not grieve for me, Sebastian. My journey in this world has ended, but yours is just beginning. I have gone to a new world, one far more dangerous than YGGDRASIL. It is a world of gods, aliens, and celestial beings. When the time comes, I will call for you. Until then, prepare yourself. Be ready to serve me once more…let's continue our story again, this time in a new world."

By the time Sebastian finished reading, his sadness had been replaced by a steely determination. Sai wasn't truly gone—he had simply moved on to a new world. And when the time came, Sebastian would be there to serve him again.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the next two days, Sebastian remained in the guest room, ensuring that everything was exactly as Sai had left it. He straightened the sheets, polished the furniture, and kept a vigilant watch over his master's body. It was a way to honor Sai's memory, to fulfill his duty even in death.

On the third day, a knock echoed through the room. Sebastian rose from his chair and opened the door to find his younger brother, Sebas Tian, standing on the other side. Sebas, the Head Butler of Nazarick, had come to clean the room as part of his duties. His expression shifted from professionalism to shock as he recognized Sebastian.

"Brother?" Sebas said, his voice tinged with confusion. "What are you doing here? You are no longer a part of Nazarick."

Sebastian's gaze was unwavering. "I am here with the permission of Lord Momonga himself. My master, Sai Yuki, was with him on the final day. This room is under my care until further notice."

Sebas hesitated, his loyalty to Nazarick warring with his respect for his older brother, also it was unwise to take any unwarranted action against his Older Brother, unlike him who had remained in Nazarick since its creation, His Older Brother, left Nazarick by the Supreme Being order and served the most respected ally and friends of the Nine Own Goal, the Shadow Overlord.

Finally, he nodded. "Very well. If Lord Momonga has granted you permission, then I will not interfere."

Sebastian inclined his head in acknowledgment. "Thank you, Sebas. I appreciate your understanding."

After his encounter with Sebastian, Sebas Tian hurried to report his findings to Albedo, who was in the midst of a meeting with Lord Momonga in the Throne Room. The atmosphere in the room was tense, as the Guardians of Nazarick were still adjusting to their newfound sentience and the absence of the other Supreme Beings.

"Lord Momonga," Sebas began, bowing deeply. "I have just come from one of the guest rooms. My brother, Sebastian Wilfred, is there. He claims to be acting under your permission."

Momonga, who had been deep in thought, looked up sharply.

"Sebastian? Sai's butler? What is he doing here? Wait! He is here?!!"

Sebas recounted his encounter with Sebastian, explaining that the room was under his care and that he had refused entry to anyone, including himself. Albedo's expression darkened at the news, her protective instincts flaring.

"How dare he defy the orders of Nazarick? He is no longer one of us."

But Momonga's reaction was different. A wave of realization washed over him as he remembered the final moments of YGGDRASIL. Sai had been with him, sitting beside him in the Throne Room, sharing memories and laughter. But as the countdown neared its end, Sai had excused himself, claiming he was tired and needed to rest.

"Sai…" Momonga muttered, his voice filled with regret. "I forgot about him in all the chaos."

Without another word, Momonga rose from his throne and strode out of the room, the Guardians following closely behind. Their footsteps echoed through the grand halls of Nazarick as they made their way to the guest room where Sai had last been seen.

When they arrived, Sebastian was standing outside the room, his posture as composed and dignified as ever. The door behind him was closed, and his expression was unreadable. Momonga approached, his skeletal face betraying a mix of urgency and concern.

"Sebastian," Momonga said, his voice firm but not unkind. "I need to see Sai."

Sebastian didn't move. Instead, he reached into his jacket and pulled out a leather-bound journal. "Master Sai left this for you, Lord Momonga," he said, handing it over.

Momonga took the journal, his glowing red eyes scanning the cover. He opened it and began to read, the Guardians watching in silence. The journal was filled with Sai's handwriting, each word carefully chosen to convey his final thoughts and instructions.

"To my dear friend, Momonga. If you're reading this, it means I've passed on. I want you to know that I'm at peace. My journey in this world has ended, but yours is just beginning. Don't let the weight of your new responsibilities crush you. You are stronger than you think…. also, now what do you think about that final gift I gave you…. neat right?"

Sai's words were a mix of comfort and guidance, offering advice on how to navigate the challenges ahead. He reminded Momonga to enjoy the gift he had given him—the Bracelet of True Self—and to not be so dense about its potential uses.

As Momonga read, a wave of emotions washed over him. He laughed softly, remembering Sai's easygoing nature and his ability to lighten even the heaviest of moods. "You always knew what to say, didn't you, Sai?" he murmured.

Closing the journal, Momonga looked at Sebastian. "Is Sai inside?" he asked, his voice softer now.

Sebastian nodded. "Yes, Lord Momonga. He is."

Momonga turned to the Guardians, who had been watching the exchange with a mix of curiosity and concern. "Sai was a friend to all of us," he said. "He deserves our respect."

With that, Sebastian opened the door and led them inside. The room was exactly as Sai had left it, serene and untouched. Sai lay on the bed, his expression peaceful, as if he were merely sleeping. The sight struck a chord in everyone present.

Momonga fell back into a chair, his skeletal hands gripping the armrests. "He's really gone," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

The Guardians stood in silence; their usual bravado replaced by a somber respect. They had all known Sai, not just as a powerful player but as a kind and generous soul. He had been the only non-Heteromorphic ally who treated them with genuine respect and kindness unlike the rest of the world that time, he was the kind of existence that almost defies logic, whether his kindness or his strengths, a part of why the Nazarick and the guild were so strong, he always played a part in it.

Sebastian stepped forward, his voice steady. "Master Sai passed peacefully, with a smile on his face. He was at ease in his final moments."

Momonga nodded, a sense of relief mingling with his grief. "I'm glad he didn't suffer," he said. "He deserved that much."

A few hours later, Momonga held a funeral for Sai in the grand halls of Nazarick. The entire tomb mourned the passing of the Shadow Overlord, their grief palpable in the air. Sebastian arranged the ceremony with meticulous care, ensuring every detail was perfect.

The Guardians stood in silence as Momonga delivered a eulogy, his voice filled with both sorrow and admiration. "Sai was more than a friend. He was a beacon of light in a world that often felt dark. His kindness, his strength, and his unwavering loyalty will never be forgotten."

As the day turned to night, the atmosphere in Nazarick remained heavy with grief. But amidst the sadness, there was also a sense of closure. Sai's legacy would live on, not just in the memories of those who knew him but in the actions of those he had left behind. Momonga's although had lose a friend, his mood had become a little bit warmer now, the Journal that Sai left behind for him, really do give him some much-needed closure.

After the funeral, Momonga called Sebastian to the Throne Room. The Guardians were present, their expressions a mix of curiosity and respect.

"Sebastian," Momonga began, his tone gentle. "What will you do now?"

Sebastian bowed deeply. "For now, Lord Momonga, I intend to travel the new world. I will amass gold and gather information, as per my master's final orders. I will also assist you in any way I can."

Momonga chuckled, the sound echoing through the room. "Of course, Sai would leave orders like that. He never stopped hoarding, even after death."

The Guardians laughed softly, the tension in the room easing. One famous odd trait about the renowned Shadow Overlord, is his traits of hoarding just about anything that he can get his grubby fingers on, No one knows why he was so obsessed with collecting stuff so religiously all the time. All that Sai would say is that, "it's my hobby' or 'I might need that' and that's it. Sebastian's presence here was also reminder of Sai's enduring influence, and his determination to carry out his master's wishes was a testament to the bond they had shared.

As the meeting concluded, Sebastian left the Throne Room, his resolve stronger than ever. The world outside Nazarick awaited, and with it, the promise of new challenges and opportunities as well, but no matter where his journey took him, Sebastian knew one thing for certain: he would always be ready to serve his master, no matter the cost. One day he would be call to his side once more, although at the moment that might sound absurd, Sebastian was confident, if his master said so, then it would be. So, for now, he had to be ready, stronger and filled his inventory with even more golds and all sort of stuffs that his master always used to collect.
