Game Over : Marvel Reboot

Chapter 2: Episode 2: "The Deal with The One"

The One leaned back, his golden aura shimmering softly as he hurried our conversation along. "Let's change the topic," he said, with his voice calm yet decisive. I think my guy loved to set the tone too much.

"I want to reincarnate you into a new world of my choosing—the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU, as you know it."

I blinked, caught a little bit off guard. "The MCU? Why?"

He chuckled, his eyes glinting with amusement.

"Why not? You're a fan, aren't you? I've seen you recently marathon all the Marvel movies. Besides, I'm curious to see what you'll do there. And, frankly, I'm a bit annoyed at how casually the MCU throws around godlike figures as if they're nothing special."

I nodded, understanding his disgruntled tone. Truth to be told, The MCU did have a consistent habit of introducing cosmic entities, deities and all sort of OP superpower folks, as if they were everyday occurrences. Added to the fact that the world seems to constantly on the edge of apocalypse. Still, it was undeniable to me that the chance to live there is really enticing, But then a thought struck me, and I raised an issue.

"The MCU is a tough place for a normal person. I mean, it's filled with superhumans, aliens, and world-ending threats. How am I supposed to survive there?"

The One smiled knowingly.

"You're right. The MCU is a dangerous world for any normal folks… But the one I'm sending you to will be… unique. Let's just say it's a version tailored for you."

I raised an eyebrow.

"Tailored for me? What does that mean?"

He waved a hand dismissively. I think this grandpa started to enjoy being cryptic.

"Hahaha! You'll see. But first, you'll need some help to get started. That's why, before you go to the MCU, I'm sending you to another world for five years—the world of Overlord."

I was taken aback.

"The Overlord world? Why?"

The One shrugged, his expression was a bit playful.

"Just because. And, well, I know you've always wanted to live in that world and try out the full-dive online game, Yggdrasil. Am I wrong?"

I couldn't help but laugh. As a guy who loved games in general, I do have a dream to at least play a full dive virtual reality game.

"No, you're not wrong. I've dreamed about it, honestly. And if I get the same opportunity as Momonga, the main character of Overlord, I might be able to empower myself before heading to the MCU."

The One's smile widened.

"Exactly. That's the plan. You'll spend five years in the Overlord world, playing Yggdrasil to gain power. Your in-game character's strength—your level, stats, abilities and all—will be transferred to your new body in the MCU."

I felt a surge of excitement but quickly tempered it with practicality.

"Wait, if I bring over my in-game character's full power, won't that make me too big of a target? I'd be targeted as soon as I arrive in that universe. And wouldn't my new body explode from the sheer power?"

The One nodded, his expression serious.

"You're right. There has to be a balance in this sort of things. Bringing over your full power would be absurd and dangerous. Your new body wouldn't be able to handle it, and you'd draw too much attention. So, we'll need to set some limits."

I crossed my arms, thinking. I can see immediately who's coming to find me if I come into the world with overpowered stats, heck a lot of people were hunted down just because they MIGHT be too powerful in the future.

"Alright, let's negotiate. What can I bring over, and what are the limitations?"

"Alright, let's talk". The One said.

After some back-and-forth, we agreed on seven key things:

Character Appearance, Level, and Stats: My in-game character's looks, level, and stats would be transferred to my new body in the MCU. However, there would be a limitation: The level would be unlocked slowly, but it should take days and perhaps some work over, for me to fully gain my full level again. This would prevent me from being too powerful too quickly, and thus killed myself in the process

In-Game Inventory: I requested that my in-game inventory be available to me in the MCU. This meant I could bring the in-game system with me, allowing me to access my items and equipment.

Job Skill: My character's primary job skill would be transferred. This was non-negotiable, as it was the core of my build. It was a no brainer move if I just brought the Job but nothing with it.

Four Selected Skills: I could choose four additional skills from my in-game character to bring over. The 4 chosen skills would be up to me to picked, no matter how strong or weak the skills is, I pick them, so The One kinda get what I am trying to do with these, so we limited it down to just 4 additional skills and that is it, Naturally I would have to carefully looked over all the skill that I would get and choose the best, if I got the chance to set my new life in a great way, I would definitely do it.

The One laughed as I laid out my requests.

"I knew you'd try to make this as advantageous for you as much as possible. But I'll allow it. It's within the acceptable scope of our agreement—and with the TOAA."

I raised an eyebrow.

"TOAA? You mean the One Above All? You've made a deal with him?"

The One smirked.

"Let's just say we've come to an understanding. He won't be interfering with what you do, or mess with you personally, but that doesn't mean others, meaning those that below him, won't. The MCU is a vast and unpredictable place…. You know how it is, right?"

I nodded, absorbing the information. Made sense, the big boss would take his hand off me, and not meddle with my stuff, but the other can join in, but at least this would make everything a little bit fair, if the big boss stays out of it, that would make everything a little bit manageable for me, that way I can deduct one thing that can kill me with just a single look.

"So, to summarize, I'll spend five years in the Overlord world, playing Yggdrasil to build up my character. When the server shuts down, I'll be transmigrated to the MCU with my in-game power and abilities, albeit with some limitations. Is that correct?"

The One smiled.

"Exactly. Consider it a tutorial phase. You'll have time to prepare and grow stronger before facing the challenges of the MCU."

I leaned back, feeling a mix of excitement and apprehension. What The One had offered me, I liked it a lot, and let just say, I am looking forward to it.

"And what if I go… I don't know, like become a genocidal maniac in the MCU? What happened then?"

Kinda wanted to gauge the vibe a little bit but, The One's expression didn't change.

"You're free to live as you please. The TOAA won't interfere, and neither will I. But remember, the MCU is filled with powerful beings who won't take kindly to you causing too much chaos. If you do crazy things, expect crazy consequences."

I chuckled. Make sense when he put it that way,

"Fair enough. I'll keep that in mind."

The One's gaze softened.

"This is your new life, Sai. A gift from me to you. Live it as you see fit. You've earned this."

I smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude.

"Thank you. I'll make the most of it."

We sat in silence for a moment, watching Earth spin slowly in the void. The whole thing were quite surreal for me, and let's be honest, getting this chance is kinda in my wish list, and The One has been very cool the whole time, he didn't force me into anything, he would share and told me about any pros and cons that comes with what I wanted, granted that the guy were clearly doing this on his own whim, mostly because he was visibly annoyed with the 'Kidnapped' souls that become the trend recently.

"Are you ready?"

The One finally broke the quiet. I took a deep breath, my resolve firmed and ready.

"Yes. I'm ready."

With a smile, I looked at The One, one last time saying my thanks to him genuinely as I can expressed at the moment, The One gave me his chill Zen grandpa smile and gently, tapped my back. Everything went black right at that instant.
