Chapter 219: Plan for the enemy to be as strong as possible
The Star Alliance troops sent to solve the war issues in the Middle East are actually the Army from Country C. C's Army had already trained a considerable number of troops who became true Earth Defense Force members. Wearing Saber-toothed Tiger Power Armor and possessing various superior vehicles along with more diverse and efficient striking methods, these new troops would not fall behind even when facing the Teizene people.
Xu Yunlai and Yang Tao, sitting in the cargo hold of a Yun-20, were no longer anxious about the upcoming battle. Nearly half a year ago, they had participated in combat on the Northern Continent of Emerald Sea Star. After returning to their country and continuing their training, they had joined the noisy landing operations two weeks ago and briefly stationed at Edo Narita Airport for a week.
As the Star Alliance resolved to eliminate all warfare conflicts on Earth, they were redeployed as experienced mobile infantry to specifically target terrorists.
The force sent to this battlefield was not very large, totaling less than a thousand men—an enhanced battalion's level. However, these few hundred people were acknowledged by Iridium Star instructors as qualified mobile infantry.
The command of this operation was assigned to a quite young officer from Country C named Sun Cheng. Being able to command such a battle as a major was a clear indication of high expectations from his superiors. His advisor, Sergeant Major Wang Dong, from the Orbital Paratroopers, was also aboard his spacecraft carrier.
Sun Cheng dared not relax even for a moment, feeling significant pressure from independently commanding such a battle. In the command room specifically designed for his carrier, Sun Cheng stared at all the holographic screens and auxiliary tools in front of him, pondering over the next operations.
"Striking a group of terrorists could bear some resemblance to our prior battle on the Northern Continent of the Emerald Sea Star. The opponent won't present a complete organizational formation to directly confront us, nor do they possess weapons that could threaten us. So, the real issue lies in accurately locating them. Once we've identified and pinpointed them, the rest is just a matter of striking," Sun Cheng analyzed to the Sergeant Major.
Wang Dong chuckled and responded, "You're the commander, and I'm just advising. If that's what you think, then go ahead and take a shot at it. The power we hold in our hands is still very formidable."
Sun Cheng also displayed a confident smile. Beyond the nearly thousand mobile infantrymen, Sun Cheng's command system included 16 J-20evo fighter jets and a squadron of aerospace spaceships used as fire delivery tools. Combined with over five thousand Dragonfly Drones, this Middle East Expeditionary Force could easily unleash tremendous firepower.
Sun Cheng was extremely cautious. His intelligence had already identified over a hundred armed terrorist strongholds. By dispatching space-air warships, he could strike these hundred-plus targets in one fell swoop. However, before executing, Sun Cheng reassessed the targets using the Dragonflies to confirm they weren't erroneous or potentially harmful to nearby civilians.
"Performing a precision bombardment on several hundred targets at once could throw the IS forces into chaos. At that point, we can send the mobile infantry to aggressively attack and secure the primary targets," summed up Sun Cheng.

They were informed from above that no terrorist was to be left alive given that their continued existence could pose a greater threat. It was necessary to eradicate the evil thoroughly, so Sun Cheng had to annihilate all the terrorists.
"Dragonfly Drones can silently infiltrate near the enemy, serving as excellent guiders. With enough firepower platforms in the sky, as soon as the targets are confirmed, a single massive fire deployment can essentially obliterate all the terrorists," declared the young major, filled with pride. This model of warfare was quite different than before, yet he preferred it, feeling a masterful control over the battlefield.
Sergeant Major shook his head and sighed, "You're dealing with a group of terrorists now, but in the future, you'll face the Teizene with significant military power. They might not have Dragonfly Drones, but they have a huge force of recon and fighter jets manned by their troops. They might not possess AI-driven strike weapons, but the firepower delivered from their warships in planetary orbit will be even mightier than the firepower you command now."
Sun Cheng nodded, acknowledging the lesson, and curiously asked, "How would a war with the Teizene unfold? We're newbies just beginning to handle interstellar warfare, and we hardly have a clue. Sergeant Major, with your rich experience, could you speculate on how the war might proceed? Will we engage in full-scale war with the Teizene?"
The Sergeant Major sprawled back in his chair, casually saying, "We don't know much, but given the scale of Teizene Civilization, they're sufficiently capable of launching a full-scale war against us. Yet, the likelihood of engaging us in a total war is slim. In the Galaxy, it's rare for two civilizations to wage an all-out war without considering consequences. The Galaxy is too vast, with a diameter of a hundred thousand light-years, containing hundreds of billions of stars, possibly trillions of planets. Even after encountering another civilization, there's no need to fight them to the death."
Sun Cheng then added, "I'm curious, based on common logic, even meeting an emerging civilization, if given time, they might surpass us, right? So, if we discover such a civilization, should we snuff them out in their early stages?"
Sergeant Major chuckled, "You are talking about the Dark Forest Theory, an inference derived from cosmological civilization studies on Earth. Every inference in cosmic civilization studies needs presuppositions. The two main assumptions of the Dark Forest Theory are that the material resources in the universe are finite—if you take some, there's none left for me—and civilizations cannot travel faster than the speed of light. Both are incorrect in reality and hence, have no referential value."
Most developed interstellar civilizations possess their own civilization confidence. Unless struck by misfortune, it's unlikely for an emerging civilization to overtake and prevail over those that developed earlier. And, given the vastness of the Galaxy, the growth of civilizations actually faces development bottlenecks, making it challenging to break through the Galaxy's supply limits for energy and materials demands."
In reality, the sole driving force for any civilization's existence is the continuation and advancement of the civilization. War is clearly a means to continue and progress—capable of plundering resources, population, and living space. However, this double-edged sword could also serve to destruct the prosperity and propagation of civilizations, similar to the term 'militarism' on Earth. From the perspective of a rational civilization, they could dislike the Iridium Star Civilization intensely, but if war with the Iridium Star Civilization wouldn't result in significant success with minimal losses, then a protracted and unlimited war could lead to the decline or even destruction of a civilization."
We've observed that the Teizene civilization is indeed a powerful one, possessing dozens of Administrative Stars, numerous vassal civilizations, and a formidable fleet of ten thousand warships. However, the Teizene are not benevolent, and they probably have a bad reputation throughout the Galaxy. Yet, they have not been annihilated simply because eliminating Teizene would cost too much energy, making it not worth it for other civilizations, as long as Teizene's actions are restricted and do not interfere with the interests of other civilizations—allowing Teizene to exist peacefully."
From another perspective, the view of Teizene towards us is the same. The information Harass transmitted to their home planet indicates that Earth is a planet abundant in resources and population, the Danlu Interstellar Cloud holds enormous value, and the Iridium Star people appear weak but possess extremely advanced technology. The Teizene civilization believes that it is worth exchanging something to gain these rewards. However, if a Teizene Expeditionary Fleet is defeated once, twice, or thrice, then they would need to reconsider."
Sun Cheng couldn't help but exclaim, "This truly is a complicated issue."
He thought for a moment and then asked, "So, do you think that our Earth Defense Force will engage in direct combat with Teizene forces?"
The Sergeant Major replied, "The likelihood is quite high. The Teizene's first Expeditionary Fleet alone has a thousand ships, and they are capable of deploying their troops separately. Within the Danlu Interstellar Cloud, there are dozens of stellar systems we haven't fully explored yet. If the Teizene secure a foothold on one or multiple planets, even establishing defensive facilities, the difficulty of defeating them would increase, and at that point, the Earth Defense Force will inevitably have to participate in combating Teizene forces on these planets, and the hardships may well rival those faced by the Universe Army against the Teizene Fleet."
Sun Cheng's expression turned grave as he said, "I originally thought this war might not involve us, but now I realize it was naive to think so."
Wang Dong commented, "In your Earth's World War I, the main participating countries thought they could quickly resolve it, but it ended up dragging on for years, costing millions of lives. One should never take war lightly—anticipating the enemy generously and preparing for the worst are good practices."
He pointed to the system in front of Sun Cheng and said, "At least, you still have some tutorial tasks for now. Learn and practice more. The rest, neither training nor academies can teach; it can only be experienced on the true battlefield."
Sun Cheng nodded and set aside other thoughts, beginning the operation.
With thousands of targets locked simultaneously, Sun Cheng simply notified all operational units, "Prepare to commence a comprehensive strike on enemy targets."
He merely pressed a red launch button on the glass display, and a myriad of weapons systems began their devastating assault on terrorist targets on the ground.
Then, the airborne infantry on standby also began their final preparations. After the bombardment concluded, they would descend to the ground to sweep the remaining terrorists.
When Xu Yunlai, Yang Tao, and others landed, the terrorists with their beards didn't even have the energy to shout their intimidating slogans. The intense and diligent strikes, very different from the half-hearted efforts of the Lighthouse Country or the feeling of battling the Syrian government forces, were overwhelming.
They felt as if their God had abandoned them at that moment, and the opponent was the true master of their fates.
