Chapter 85: Chapter 81:Sacramental Seal

Rather he could directly join the classes in the department whose lord invited him. Still, those things were beyond him, and then he focused on making the imitation blades he planned to sell if he needed extra money. His rushing but sturdy rhythm was disrupted when one day Rin suddenly appeared at his door, her appearance was presentable to normal people but he who had seen her for years noticed how haggard she looked. Her eyes had deep bags that were covered by makeup, and her twin tails flowed smoothly like always but were rather twisted and haphazard looking.

As they looked into each other`s eyes for a long moment she said

"She is dead! Shirou."

As tears leaked from her eyes like a river she wrapped him in a tight hug and the boy closed the door of emiya residence.

Dressed in a black suit fit for a funeral he stood in the tohsaka mansion. There were barely any people, nobody from Rin`s maternal family attended the funeral. This was common practice in magus families, to them the children without circuits were like goods that were sold in the form of marriages and then they forgot about them.

So when both Rin and shirou waited for the funeral to proceed, the sound of footsteps echoed and the rhythm made a chill creep up his spine. As the echoes got closer his senses proved correct because he was a tall, slender man with short spiky black hair wearing leather shoes walk into the family graveyard area of the tohsaka mansion. He was wearing a simple black dress with a black overcoat along with a prominent golden cross necklace around his neck and a blue priest cassock wrapped around his shoulders.

This was Kotomine Kirei, and looking at him, the boy's first reaction was to unsheath phosphoric fang, but as his thoughts caught up, his eyes glinted. His face went into the same neutral look with the slight smile that unnerved observant people in a similar way to the slight condescending smirk of the priest looking at them. As the priest walked towards them, he offered a priestly smile to the taiga, who eagerly greeted him, and then he introduced himself as Rin's current guardian.

After learning about taiga he looked over to Rin who said in a barbed tone

"This is my classmate shirou and his sister."

Then the priest turned around and went to perform his duties, he left a sharp comment to the girl as he walked away by saying

"Teacher would have expected better from you. Your father must be disappointed in you as his heir."

After the funeral was over Shirou's palms and shole were already laced with sweat as he was fighting off the instincts to attack the priest every second. Being in the same place as someone who is responsible for your brutal murder in future is a weird experience, to say the least. Still, after the shady priest introduced himself as the legal guardian of Rin he felt like an ice spike was stabbed into his heart, he feared that this unstable psychopath would attack or worse injure Rin any second.

After escaping the funeral scene, shirou felt better with each breath he took away from the priest. Looking at the backs of the pair Kirei`s eyes focused on shirou as he commented

"Interesting! It seems my judgment of her choice of company was too poor."

With a sly grin, he walked away, feeling a mix of amusement and satisfaction as he noticed Rin's downcast expression and slumped posture. As he tidied up the area, he couldn't help but revel in the moment, although he knew he would soon have to move on.

While the priest revelled in his short bout of happiness, a war raged in Shirou's mind. The presence of Kirei beside Rin was a constant worry for him, he made various plans how to distance them without breaking into a fight. While he wanted to jump behind the priest and stab his blade through the man`s heart, he knew that it would be impossible.

The combat ability of the priest was higher than his and he was likely a lot more experienced too. His current trump card and his father`s remaining origin bullets would be ineffective against the priest as proven by the preceding examples. These were the last gifts of kiritsugu to him, which he found out about in a note from him. There was a box containing 20 origin bullets, the Thompson contender mystic code, and some of Rin`s processed crystals containing mana from kiritsugu.

Finally, shirou made a decision and contacted Melvin. After they talked the request out he offered 2 of his forged cursed blades to Melvin as payment, who was not that enthusiastic about it. He was doubtful of the boy`s capability, as the emiya family didn't have any history of creation-focused feats and their magecraft was based on time manipulation. Still, if he took a loss he would not be Melvin, so accepted the deal with plans to sell the blades for an inflated price. What he was looking forward to was actually what type of chaos shirou would bring to the clock tower.

After a few days, he asked Rin to come meet him in their regular sparing ground. As she walked into the clearing in a red-themed outfit shirou looked at her with a strange determination burning in his eyes. Breaking the anticipated flow of events she looked at him and said

"I have already made my decessions, emiya-kun."

"I am not going to the clock tower with you. I have a responsibility to be here as the last remaining tohsaka. I am the second owner of this city so I have to continue my father`s legacy by staying here–"

"Tohsaka! Listen to me 1st, then you can answer –" interrupted shirou but he was pressed under the rising sound of Rin`s voice as she continued

"There is no need to try to convince me otherwise Emiya-kun, I have already made my decision and there is nothing that can convince me otherwise. I have some responsibility passed onto my shoulder from the 1st of my ancestors, I have to represent the tohsaka family as its master " (A/N: those are some bold words rin, remember never say never in your universe. There is always an exception to every absolute rule in your verse.)

"If you care so much about this city and your role then listen to me, for a single damned minute!" shouted shirou with frustration overtaking his veins, as thoughts about Rin`s gruesome deaths filled his mind he continued like in an trance

"That was a poor wordplay tohsaka, if you want to participate in the holy grail war then it's more important that you listen to me."

As soon as shirou uttered the word "holy grail war" her pupils constricted, her fists constricted and she unconsciously widened her legs, Shirou continued.

"You don't have to think too much about it, I never had any ulterior motives in approaching you, but rather it was you who came after me 1st."

She was not an idiot and quickly connected the dots and reflexively asked

"some master in the previous war had hired Kiritsugu-san as a help in the war and later died during the war making him unable to go back and report, hence you settled here ?"

This sudden outlandish chain of imagination left shirou perplexed for some time but he calmly looked at her and said while releasing a sigh

"Don't imagine things and listen to me. I used to think Dad was the only participant of the 4th who survived it, that was until recently when I was proven wrong."

This time rin wasn't sidetracked and quickly caught onto the meat of the conversation and asked

"What do you mean by the only survivor? And who is the other master you saw?"

Locking eyes with her he said

"Well, I have seen all the other masters except my dad being killed in the last war. The other that is alive even after witnessing his supposed death is kotomine kirei."

(A/N: the anticipated name drop has occurred and now it's time to air the dirty laundry of the Timmy-keeping priest. for those that will question what shirou is yapping about, you should remember that when he saw the end of the 4th grail war his vision was focused on his father and him destroying the grail, so the last time he saw Kirei was when he fell into the pit of sizzling grail mud that was melting things coming into contact with it.

So, he assumed that the priest was dead as he didn't see his reincarnation and him bumping into Gill again. This is also why he was surprised when he learnt that Gil was surviving the 4th war but all masters he knew of were dead. Then he was like the deaths with the priests were either voided as the priest was already dead or it was someone else.

In reality, in some corner of his mind, he didn't believe most of the visions as he had never actually seen anything related to them for real at the time.
