Eternal Myth of Arcana

Chapter 6: First Hunt

"What?! Is there a problem with that?" I asked with a confused expression.

"You sure are right in the head, brat? If you do not know, then let me say this...forget about becoming a Deviant! The moment you use lightning outside, the entire House Nerona will be after you. I can't tell you the reason, and nor am I interested in your family ancestry matters. Just don't use lightning if you don't want to die sooner," Fernandez stated as he looked at me with a serious face.

'The fuck?! They already sent someone to kill me even though I didn't awaken at that time so the reason is something else, here'

"I have fire Affinity too. Will that work?" I asked as I decided to reveal about my fire affinity.

"Oh, dual affinity? Now, that's unexpected, especially from a greenhorn brat like you, but yeah, it will work. Although lightning affinity is more powerful in its lethality, fire is also one of the strongest. You should be more precious to you than flaunting some ass affinity." Fernandez said and then took a set of casual-looking baggy clothes and threw them at me.

"Dad! They are mine!!!" Sarah protested, then she looked at my tattered and shabby clothes with blood stains all over them clothes. She sighed and decided to compromise for once.

"Wear them, kid. They are special enchanted clothes that won't be damaged even if you use your powers." Fernandez said to me as I caught clothes and held them in my hands.

"Thanks...old man" I thanked the man. It was a desolate and empty space with nothing but rubble and destruction. So I just went a little sideways to change my clothes.

I was about to remove my shirt when I noticed that they both were still looking at me. The old man is alright because I don't care if he sees me naked or not but Sarah, I can't just do something like shamelessly, now can I?

"Ahem...uh...can you turn around?"

"..." Sarah looked at me with a strange face but turned around. Fernandez on the other hand, didn't seem to care.

I removed my pants and wore the baggy jeans. My underwear was also a mess, but where would I find underwear in a damn dungeon? Then I removed the shirt. I noticed that most of my injuries were healed, but I could still feel an intense pain in my back as if needles pierced me on the back.

'So the injury from back then hasn't healed?'

I wondered and then put on a white baggy T-shirt. The shoes that the old man gave me seemed a little tight for my feet. It was not like I had any choice here.

Once I was done, I turned toward the father-daughter duo. I know that they saw that huge ass tattoo engraved on my back by that lunatic, but they tacitly didn't ask for some reason.

"Well...now that you are done, let's start with the basics. Sarah, show him how to manifest your affinity first" he said asking Sarah

"Hmm," She nodded and then raised her.

*crack*crack*crack*crack*

Slowly, five sharp ice lances manifested around her as she looked at me and then shot her ice lances far away in the distance.

"Now, you can also do something similar. To that, you need to feel your affinity from your soul. Try to feel like drawing a drop of water from a vast ocean and convey that feeling to your palms. No need to worry about doing anything special. Mana is bound to your spirit, mind, and body. It will naturally react to what you think about it. All you need to do is hone your ability to think and manipulate it. The higher your rank, the more easier and efficient it will be to use your mana according to your will. Now try doing it by yourself"

Fernandez instructed and I have to say, this man made it sound so much easier than what I learned about such things at school.

"Hmm," I nodded and then extended my hand.

*Bzzt*Bzzt*Bzzt*

A fireball, the size of a football, appeared on my palm. I felt a little excited to see myself doing something this amazing. Why wouldn't I feel excited? It's my first time using supernatural powers!

I could also feel a strong and heavy flow of energy from deep within me, flowing towards my palm. This strange flow is what made the manifestation of this fireball possible. I naturally began to receive mysterious knowledge and epiphany about the power and how to use it. It felt...natural. as I already knew about it from years of experience.

I halted, focusing on the fireball, and the strange flow of energy stopped, and the fireball disappeared into nothingness.

"..."

"..."

"...what? Did I do something wrong? This is my first time, so can you tell me if there is something wrong with it?" I asked as I noticed their silent faces and weird gazes at me.

"Damn you kid...You are making me feel jealous here. Are you sure this is not your first time being deviant? Do you have any idea the degree of control you have over your mana? It is beyond what a normal newbie tier 1 deviant should have!

Sigh...usually, Tier 1 Devaints, when using their affinity powers, waste a lot of mana. Only a small amount of mana manifests as a spell. For example, if a deviant used a fire spell and put 10 mana points into that spell, almost 6 points would be wasted due to lack of control and focus, and only 4 points would be put into that spell, decreasing its lethality and efficiency, but you...you wasted zero percent mana in your spell. Either you are an absolute genius who subconsciously achieved something like that, or you are one of those old-generation monsters pretending to be a brat. I believe the former case, though..." Fernandez said and then stood up.

He stored all the stuff in his ring and then put out the fire.

Then, he tossed a candy-like thing at me and Sarah and kept one for himself.

"Eat that. It will complete all your nutritional needs for the day. We don't have to waste time eating or anything. Kid, show me what you got...After all, practical lessons work the best!"

Suddenly, he moved lightning-fast as he threw me down the building like a rag doll. I was falling down as I felt the rushing air against my body.

"What are you doing, idiot?! You have a fire affinity, so use your fire to balance your fall. You can even fly if you use fire properly"

Suddenly, I heard Sarah's voice I saw her riding a skateboard made of ice as an ice slide manifested under her skateboard.

'You can do stuff like that too?! How cool!'

I genuinely felt surprised and excited to see that. No wonder nerds on Earth used to read such fantasy stories.

Then, I focused my attention on her words of advice as an idea flashed into my mind. I focused the flow of mana into my hands and then feet. Then, I adjusted the amount of flow into the hands and feet at different percentages.

Now, instead of falling down, I felt more like jumping down. I could control the speed at which I would fall as I used the fire around my feet to resist the fall to a certain degree.

*BOOM*

I succeeded in making a landing unscathed!

"Damnit! How can you be so damn good with your powers? You just awakened one day ago, for god's sake!" Sarah screamed in annoyance as he gazed into the distance where strange dog-like creatures were rushing towards us.

I ignored her envy because I knew she didn't mean anything bad. She just felt surprised, and even I had no idea. All I could think of was the system. Maybe, the system processes things based on my thought process, and thanks to this, efficiency is always guaranteed in what I do with mana.

I also shifted my gaze back to the dog-like creatures as I found them familiar as I once learned about them in the monster encyclopedia in the school library.

These creatures are called Palghar, tier 2 monsters, and are known for their precious and mindless nature. They just attack...as simple as that. Other than their own kind, everything other living this is an enemy to them. Although they are one of the weakest Tier 2 monsters, the worst part about them is their nature to attack in horde. They use numbers to overwhelm their enemy and crush them.

"Only four Palghars...they are scouts rushing to search for their prey. We will then kill them, and Dad will take care of the main force. Now support me from behind for now and try to injure them one way or another. I will take of the rest" Sarah said as he walked towards the monsters. This time, along with ten ice lances, two oce swords manifested into her both hands as she exuded a cold and chilly air around her.

I nodded because I was not the one to go overconfident just because I learned something amazing. I am new to this power, especially when it comes to combat with these powers. It is better for her, the experienced one, to take the lead in the attack, and I learn how to use my powers by supporting her from behind.

I raised my hand and focused the mana to form a bullet...a damn big bullet before my palm. It put all my focus into making the bullet rotate at extreme speed clockwise and then shoot it towards the monster in the center.

*peirce*

The bullet was so fast, even to my surprise, as it traveled at lightning speed and pierced right through the eye of a three-meter tall man who, stunned for a second, failed to understand what happened to it.

*kacha*

The gap was enough for Sarah as she jumped above the stunned monster and pierced its massive head with her ice sword. Ice began to form at the massive wound on its skull as it dropped lifeless.

"Good work. Now let's take care of the rest"

Once again, I wasted no time and manifested several bullets and shot them at the other three monsters, but unfortunately, it only managed to leave minor scratches that didn't even bother them. I realized that I overestimated myself. But thanks to their diverted attention towards me for the annoyance I caused with my bullets, Sarah eliminated another one of the monsters with a few clean hits.
