"A Sacred Gear? You mean this?" Mika raised the spear he carried and swung it playfully. "So that's what it's called. I prefer to call it—[Radiant Spear]."

Given that it was crafted from [Noble Phantasms], imbued with the glory and heroism of countless legends, [Radiant Spear] was a fitting name.

"[Radiant Spear]? Never heard of it. But it doesn't matter." Yuuma summoned a spear of light.

"I'm so lucky!" she exclaimed, a cruel smile twisting her lips. "I was only tasked with eliminating one Sacred Gear wielder—Issei Hyoudou. But now there are—two. Azazel will be pleased."

With that, she charged, her light spear aimed at Mika.

He adopted a defensive stance.

Although he could easily defeat her, his objective wasn't to kill a high-ranking Fallen Angel.

He needed to maintain his cover.

Therefore, he decided to play the role of an ordinary human, albeit one with slightly enhanced physical abilities. Even so, his mastery of martial arts allowed him to see through her every move.

"Die!" She lunged, thrusting her light spear towards him.

Mika parried the blow, the tip of her spear sliding against the shaft of his [Radiant Spear]. He allowed himself to be pushed back, feigning weakness.

As he stumbled towards Issei, he kicked the boy away. "Get out of here, Issei!"

Using the momentum from the kick, he twisted his body mid-air, dodging Yuuma's attack as they passed each other.

Then, in a move that seemed almost accidental, the blade of his [Radiant Spear] grazed Yuuma's neck.

"Damn it—!" Seeing the blade so close, she flapped her wings and retreated.

Mika's restrained strength had allowed her to escape. If he had used even a fraction of his true speed, she would have been dead.

Of course, this near miss had been calculated.

"I was almost killed by a—human?" She touched her neck, a shiver running down her spine.

Looking at Mika's calm demeanor, she recalled the legends of humans wielding Sacred Gears, achieving extraordinary feats.

"He's a prime candidate for a Hero—I can't let him live!" She raised her hand, summoning more light to form a more powerful spear.

"It's over—" a voice called out, interrupting her.

A beautiful, crimson-haired woman emerged from the forest, followed by three others.

"It ends here, Fallen Angel. These two are students of Kuoh Academy. And Kuoh Academy is my territory. I won't allow you to harm anyone within it." A magic circle appeared in her hand, and crimson energy began to coalesce.

"Tsk. A Devil from the Gremory family—" Seeing her opponent, Yuuma ascended quickly. She was no match for a High-class Devil like Rias Gremory.

"I'll have to report this." Without hesitation, she flew higher and higher, disappearing into the night sky.

...

"She's finally gone." Mika turned to face Rias, a smile playing on his lips. "It seems you're not normal humans either, Gremory-senpai." He glanced at the three behind her: Akeno Himejima, Yuuto Kiba, and Koneko Toujou.

Rias smiled. "Perhaps you two would like to visit the Occult Research Club? I believe I can answer any questions you might have."

"Certainly," Mika replied.

Rias turned to Issei.

"I'll go," Issei said, his mind in turmoil.

He had just witnessed events that shattered his understanding of reality. But despite his confusion, he couldn't refuse Rias's invitation.

He needed answers. Why had Yuuma, his girlfriend, tried to kill him?

Mika, seeing Issei's conflicted expression, shook his head. Love—it can be a cruel mistress.

He knew how deeply Issei, who rarely received female attention, had fallen for Yuuma. He would have given her anything.

If her feelings had been genuine, it could have been a beautiful story. But it was all a lie, a means to an end. The confession was a way to confirm he possessed a Sacred Gear.

...

"Once he learns the truth—it will break his heart," Mika thought sadly.

"Then please, follow me." Rias, pleased with their agreement, led the way back to Kuoh Academy, her mind replaying Mika's earlier battle.

She had recognized his skill; Yuuma's observations had merely confirmed what she already suspected.

She had only one thought: she had to recruit him.

...

...

Within the Occult Research Club room at Kuoh Academy, Rias sat on a sofa, facing Mika and Issei. Her peerage—Akeno, Yuuto, and Koneko—stood behind her, observing them.

"Welcome to the Occult Research Club. I'm Rias Gremory, the president," she began. "If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'll do my best to answer them."

"Yuuma—what was she?" Issei asked immediately, his voice filled with confusion and hurt. "Why did she try to kill me?"

He had been struggling with these questions ever since the attack.

Rias took a sip of her tea. "Issei, your girlfriend was a Fallen Angel. She attacked you because you are a Sacred Gear wielder."

"A Sacred Gear wielder?"

"A Sacred Gear—is an extraordinary power residing within a chosen human. Many historical figures were said to be Sacred Gear wielders, achieving legendary feats thanks to their abilities," Yuuto explained.

"Even today, there are many people with Sacred Gears," Akeno added. "Many internationally renowned figures likely possess them. Most Sacred Gears only influence human society. However, some are powerful enough to threaten even Devils and Fallen Angels."

"Issei," Rias continued, "raise your left hand." Though confused, he complied.

"Close your eyes and imagine the strongest thing you can think of." She began guiding him towards awakening his Sacred Gear.

Mika watched with interest. Unlike Issei, his [Radiant Spear] was a creation, not a naturally awakened Sacred Gear. He was curious about the process.

A gauntlet materialized on Issei's left hand.

"This—what is this?!" He stared at it, a mix of fear and wonder in his eyes.

"That is your Sacred Gear. And it's the reason Yuuma approached you and tried to kill you," Rias explained. "Her confession was merely a means to confirm its existence."

"So that's what happened—" Issei looked at the gauntlet, his face falling.

He believed her; the Sacred Gear on his hand was undeniable proof of the supernatural. Besides, he wasn't delusional.

"Of course—why would a girl like her ever be interested in someone like me?" He slumped in his chair, dejected.

The others didn't interrupt; such matters had to be resolved personally.

After a moment of silence, Rias turned to Mika. "Do you have any questions?" she asked, though her mind was filled with questions of her own.

She had recognized both of them as Kuoh Academy students; she had seen Mika's photo in the student registry while investigating Issei.

However, she had asked Akeno to gather information on Mika, and surprisingly, there was nothing. It was as if he didn't exist.

This puzzled her.

Mika's potential was immense. With proper guidance, he could become a valuable asset. But his mysterious background made her hesitant.

Unlike other Devils, she treated her peerage as family. She preferred to know her companions well.

"Indeed, I do. I now know that Yuuma was a Fallen Angel, but you clearly outmatched her. You're not ordinary humans either, are you, Gremory-senpai?"

Rias smiled. "You're right. We're not." She stood up, and a pair of bat-like wings unfolded from her back.

"We are Devils." As her wings spread, Akeno, Yuuto, and Koneko's wings also appeared.

Issei's jaw dropped, while Mika simply nodded, as if expecting this.

"So, those who can fight Fallen Angels are either Angels or Devils. Then—Angels also exist?"

"Yes. They are our enemies," Rias confirmed.

"And—Gods? Do they exist as well?"

"Yes, the Gods from various mythologies are real."

Mika nodded, then fell silent.

"May I ask you a few questions?" Rias asked, a smile on her face, though her mind was filled with uncertainty.

"Please, go ahead."

"You clearly know something about this world. Have you encountered other supernatural beings before?"

"No."

"Then how is it that almost no one in this school has any memory of you?" This was what truly puzzled her.

"You mean—this?" As Rias and her peerage watched in disbelief, Mika's form shimmered and vanished before their eyes.

"What was that? Did you just turn invisible?" she asked as he reappeared.

"No, it's just martial arts," he replied calmly.

"I've been practicing martial arts since I was a child, constantly contemplating the relationship between humanity and nature. I've reached this state—a unity with nature. I call it—Circle (Enhanced Zetsu)."
