Dark Magus Returns

Chapter 1088: What Beats Time?

Being a high-star mage and the position Alen was in, he knew plenty of unique traits and how much they would vary from person to person.

It was one of the things that could even turn the tide in a fight, particularly if they were a lower star because of these unique traits.

However, due to their rarity, when a mage had one, they were often televised or heavily researched. So why would no one know of the Grand Magus's trait?

It was simple: because someone at that level of power didn't want them to know. It was something he could keep secret and use as he wished.

Because unlike many of the others with unique traits, Enaxx was already someone who was incredibly special and powerful in the world of magic.

"He can clone himself? How would that even work? Is it done with mana? What differentiates the clones from the real body? How can such a unique trait even exist?" Alen said to himself out loud.

What was even more shocking to him, though, was just as 'Jake' had said. If this fact were true, it had answered the questions he had to all of the situations he followed.

If a single individual could be in two places at once, and make sure that they had evidence that they were nowhere near the crime scene, then they would never be suspected of such a thing.

"You have a very wild imagination, I must say," Alen said perfectly.

"Imagination?" Raze replied. "I'm not in the same position as you, Alen. I have no idea what you saw, or what you know. I have only told you one thing, and that's it."

"Whether it was something I just made up, then it wouldn't matter to you, unless, like I said, it was the solution that would answer all the questions that you had running in your head. You chose to believe me, or not to believe me. In the first place, I don't expect you to do anything."

"The only thing I have ever said to you was to be careful when you were around him."

Alen nodded to himself, and now it was the moment of truth: whether Alen would accept this answer and hand him over whatever items it was that they needed.

"Follow me, let's head inside for a bit. I don't want you just standing around here," Alen suggested.

Raze figured this was his way of saying yes, and his way of saying no would have been a fight between the two of them.

Entering the manor through the back door, the two of them continued to walk until they had entered a grand reception room. There was a giant chandelier that was displayed on the top, with several pieces of furniture pointed towards the fireplace and a large magical display on top. Currently, Aurora had been watching the news channel, but it was hard to tell if she was really watching such a thing, since she had the volume at an extremely low level. Aurora was nervously playing with her fingers on her lap as she looked at the others who had just come in.

"Aurora, as I said, I would like to have a private conversation, so I want to make sure you stay in the right wing, at least," Alen stated. "As for you, take a seat… and what would you prefer me to call you?"

Raze sat on one of the larger sofas that could seat at least eleven people. It was a bit too spacious for his liking, in all honesty.

"Jake is fine; let's not make our relationship too complicated," Raze answered.

"Alright, Jake, just wait here. I think I have a few samples I can give you. Hopefully, they will have gone off and turn you into an ugly frog or something," Alen said, wandering off into the rest of the manor.

It certainly felt like Alen was a strange person. It was clear he had some sort of dislike for Raze, yet still decided to help him even now.

For some reason, Raze didn't hate that, though. He was a person who was more honest with his feelings, wearing them on the outside.

A little while later, and Alen had returned, with three strange sticks in his hand. They were around the same size and thickness as a hotdog, but flat, with a flat top like a whistle and a circular, strange energy running through the sea-through center.

Alen threw them in the air, and Raze caught them.

"Those are the only ones I have, three of them. Their use time halves each time you use them," Alen explained. "And each use time is different from person to person."

"You can force-use them as well, all three of them in one day if you want, but we've never tested the limit. Maybe it will make your heart go pop."

"Thanks," Raze said as he looked carefully at the items. He wished he could study such a thing, figure out how it was used, and then make several for himself. Maybe he could even get rid of whatever the side effects were.

"What, you don't trust me? They work just like I said. You can use one now if you want. I could get you more, but then you would have to wait, and it feels like you're in a bit of a rush with things," Alen said. "What are you going to use them for, anyway?"

Raze got up and quickly placed them on the inside of his Blazer, and stored the items away with its special trait.

"If I told you that…"

"Right, I wouldn't be alive… so do you have anything else you just want to use and abuse me for, young man?"

"Young?" Raze replied, but as he thought about it, there was perhaps one more thing he could ask.

"Time magic—you must have heard of it, or maybe even dealt with it. I was wondering, if you were to deal with a user that had time magic, how would you handle the situation?"

"A user with powerful time magic?" Alen replied. "Does that even exist? We would surely know about that as well… I guess we should have known about a lot of things."

"But isn't the answer obvious? The answer is Dark Magic."

This answer had surprised Raze completely, and he had no idea why Alen would say those words.
