Dark Magus Returns

Chapter 1087: The Connection That Makes It All Fit

The large curiosity that had been digging at the back of Alen's mind for the longest time could be answered. At first, he wasn't even interested in looking at matters revolving around Enaxx.

Although they weren't exactly close, Enaxx had somewhat taken Alen under his wing, teaching him how to use the fire element at a more advanced level, also bringing him a large number of spells. Alen had felt this type of treatment before—people trying to gain favor with him because of his skills and talents.

It felt less like he was being used when it was one of the Grand Magus. After all, what could he gain from Alen being on his side, a person who had everything?

It was until the recent interview with Enaxx that curiosity had reappeared in Alen's mind: the death of the famous reporter. Many felt like it was Enaxx's doing.

There were a large number of people even blaming him, until evidence came out claiming that it was impossible for him to do such a thing.

This event had reminded him of the words that were spoken so long ago. Yet the further he dived in, the more he didn't understand.

With his position, he was able to get access to all of the missions that Enaxx had been a part of. He could even ask for favors from police forces and more on different events that had occurred involving Enaxx.

It was the same pattern that was appearing again and again: large war crimes, cruelty beyond what a normal person was capable of; the death of those that had wronged Enaxx in the smallest ways; and sometimes, deaths of those that could only benefit Enaxx.

Seeing all of the reports on a single individual, never had Alen seen things pointed at one person more than any other. Each time, though, there was evidence that had cleared Enaxx, that showed that it was impossible that it couldn't have been Enaxx's doing. For Alen, though, even this was suspicious. All of the evidence that made it so Enaxx was cleared—it was too clean.

The evidence that it couldn't be him: Enaxx was at a grand event. There was filming, multiple witnesses, in a large, crowded place.

Every single time when he was the main suspect, it was decided that it couldn't have been him. The matter was driving Alen mad, and if he dived too far, he thought he would get caught up in all of this.

He might even be selected as a target, which was why he had spoken those words the first time he had met 'Jake'.

Looking at Raze, Alen quickly lifted his hands and flicked his fingers. Two small, bullet-sized fireballs shot out in the air and swirled right towards Raze.

They were incredibly fast that Raze didn't even have time to react, and instead, his Blazer had reacted instead. The barrier activated, stopping the attack.

"That's quite the powerful magical blazer you have. It's not something a normal person can get their hands on," Alen commented.

"What is this? Have you decided to fight me instead? You want me to force the information out of you?" Raze replied, as he needed to be ready to use whatever it was that he needed.

"I just wanted to make sure you were skilled enough to at least block that," Alen answered. "I still have no idea who you really are. I'm wondering how someone that I've never heard of can even obtain such sensitive information that's not available to someone like me."

"And I said before, if you know this information, then how are you alive?"

Raze was a bit stumped with the situation he was in. After all, what was he meant to say that cleared him? Alen wouldn't let him go with a half-answer.

Still, Raze had eventually figured out something that might work.

"You looked into all of the cases involving Enaxx. There should have been one that stood out. It would have been from a while ago now, but you should know the name I'm using right now. The name of Jake is not my real name. The name Jake Dove is the name of someone who is quite dear to me."

"Jake Dove?" It took a while as Alen went through his memory bank of all of the cases, and it finally hit him.

'That talented mage researcher! There was an incident where he had publicly met Enaxx face to face, and not long after, his entire family had perished, with himself breaking out and perishing himself after as well.'

'It was one of the incidents that Enaxx was cleared of being a suspect. Many online thought that he was a possible suspect. Why is he using his name, though… wait! I seem to recall that Jake had a son.'

'It was reported that the son died, but is that really the case? Or maybe Jake had more than one child that was unknown, a secret affair. He would be around this age.'

'A revenge story for his father, and a talented mage—that makes sense.'

Raze had no idea what was swirling through Alen's mind right now, whether his plan was working or not, or the grand made-up story he had made.

Perhaps through too much research, Alen was trying to find threads with everything now, making him try and make this connection as well.

"Very well, I will give you what you asked for in exchange for information on the Grand Magus. So tell me, what is the answer that will solve all of this?"

Raze answered as he thought back to the multiple times he had fought against Enaxx, even successfully killing him a few times. That was right, Raze had succeeded in his task, or at least he thought.

"Enaxx has a special trait, which makes him quite the dangerous Grand Magus, a unique trait to just him. Enaxx has the magical ability to clone his body… and he can do so more than just once," Raze answered.
