Chapter 25: Chapter 25: The Ritz Bar
Mann looked at Qiwei, who was waiting outside to hack into the system, with an ugly expression. "What? Someone beat us to it?"
"Mann, maybe you should ask Qiwei to check the surveillance footage of the Whole Foods factory. There should be a video left," Dorio suggested.
"No need. Even if we find out who made the first move, it won't matter. I think they've already left with everything," Mann replied.
He scanned the body of a Maelstrom Gang member lying on the ground and noticed he had been dead for nearly three hours. With that time frame, the gang could easily have walked back to Heywood for a job.
"Well, Jack, you did a good job this time. I've notified the employer, and I'll pay you now."
Outside a stadium of the Heywood Valentino Gang, Father Sebastian looked at Peter and the others with great satisfaction.
"Hey, Father, we were only able to rescue this kid because of Peter. He's the leader of our team," Jack said, scratching his head. He wasn't one to take credit for himself, but he knew the biggest challenge with the Maelstrom Gang was dealing with their vast number of thugs.
"Oh? Is that so? It seems Jack has found himself a good leader," Father Sebastian said, raising an eyebrow.
The priest was a good judge of character. Though Jack could be a bit loose with his tongue, he was trustworthy when it mattered.
"Hi, I'm Sebastian. You can call me Father. Since Jack has joined your team, I'll be in touch with you in the future. Here's my contact information."
After speaking, Father Sebastian's eyes lit up, and Peter received both the priest's contact details and the payment for the job.
"No problem. If you ever need anything in the future, just reach out to us," Peter said with a nod.
The relationship between the priest and the street kid, V, in the game was solid, even if V was homeless here. Peter had hoped their friendship could start off better, but circumstances weren't ideal.
Coffee Shop
"This time, we earned a total of 85,000 Euros. Each of us gets 21,250 Euros," Peter said, preparing to transfer the funds when he noticed Lucy raising her hand to stop him.
"What's the matter, Lucy?" Peter asked.
"No, I just wanted to remind you, Peter, to deduct the money for the chip I asked you to buy for me first and send it to me," Lucy replied, shaking her head. She was the type who clearly separated business from personal matters. Although Peter might not mind the money, Lucy didn't like owing people anything.
"Okay, I'll deduct the 5,000 Euros for the chip and transfer 16,250 Euros to you," Peter said. He didn't mind Lucy's request. Though he wasn't concerned about the 5,000 Euros, he understood her desire to settle things fairly.
"Thank you, Peter," Lucy said, her eyes lighting up with excitement. After all, if she had to steal chips and sell them, it would take her much longer to earn 16,000 Euros.
"Anytime. We're a team," Peter replied with a wave of his hand. Money wasn't an issue for him—after all, he was Superman. Even if things got tight, he could always 'borrow' a hefty sum from Saburo Arata for some friendly financial exchange.
"Hey, the money's so good! Peter, should we go have a little fun?" Jack asked, his voice full of excitement. Since meeting Peter, he had earned nearly 100,000 Euros—something he never imagined.
In Night City, 100 Euros was often a month's or even two months' worth of food for many people. Now, Jack had over 60,000 Euros left after buying his favorite motorcycle for 25,000 Euros. He was doing pretty well.
The first thing to do with money, of course, was to enjoy it.
Peter, hearing Jack's suggestion, glanced at V beside him, then his eyes wandered slightly.
"Peter, just go with Jack. Lucy and I can just go shopping at the mall," V said, catching Peter's drift. V gave him a teasing look, but still, agreed with Peter's plan.
Sure enough, it seemed like every woman in any world had the urge to shop, even in a place like Cyberpunk Kerry.
With that, Peter followed Jack.
Ritz Bar
"Hey, Jack! It's been a while since you've come here for a drink with us! And who's this handsome guy next to you? I don't think I've seen him before."
At the door of the Ritz Bar, a pink-haired lady with a baseball bat and two ball-shaped buns in her hair greeted them. She glanced at Jack first, a bit provocatively, before her eyes landed on Peter.
"Chica (sister), I've been making money and haven't had time to drink with you. This is my partner Peter. He's really skilled," Jack said, grinning as he put a hand on the girl's shoulder.
"F**k you, Jack. Go inside and drink. Little handsome guy, if you come here on your own next time, I'll treat you well," the pink-haired lady said, hitting Jack's chest lightly with her baseball bat. She looked Peter up and down with somewhat suggestive eyes.
In this world, where it was normal to install prostheses, men who looked as good as Peter and were entirely "original" were rare. His handsome appearance was certainly eye-catching.
Peter, in turn, took a good look at the young lady—someone he had seen often in the game. Unlike her in-game appearance, where her skin was rough and dotted with freckles, this lady had smooth, fair skin. Although her heavy makeup wasn't to his taste, Peter could see she was a beautiful woman.
