Chapter 266: The Void Secret Gateways

The labyrinth loomed ominously behind them, a structure of vast mystery and peril. The others were occupied preparing for their departure, ensuring that Alera was safe and stable now after her near-death battle with the guardian.

Pyris, however, slipped away, his footsteps barely audible as he ventured deeper into the labyrinth's inner layers.

There was something he needed to do—something vital that he had promised to Mira and his mother before setting foot in this forsaken place.

Something sinister no one will see coming.

The air grew heavier as he moved further into the labyrinth. The walls, jagged and ancient, seemed to press in on him, alive with latent energy. The faint whispers of power hummed around him, yet Pyris strode confidently, his steps unwavering.

Reaching a secluded corner, where the energy of the labyrinth felt calmer, he stopped.

Closing his eyes, Pyris focused. His hands lifted, and slowly, tendrils of pure Void energy began to manifest, swirling and coiling like ethereal smoke around his fingertips.

The power was dark, enigmatic, yet uniquely his own.

"Let's get to work," Pyris murmured to himself, his voice low and resolute.

With a deep breath, Pyris pushed his mana into the Void element. The first step was shaping the Void—a delicate process that required precision. The swirling tendrils of energy began to stabilize, forming faintly glowing orbs, barely the size of his palm.

These orbs pulsed gently, and Pyris guided them with care, embedding his unique mana signature into each one.

His mana was the key—like a stamp of ownership—marking these Void pockets as his and his alone.

This way even if another void element user used the signature with his void mana, no one will realize if that person using his signature was either Song or Mira.

Sweat began to bead on his brow. The process wasn't simple. The labyrinth resisted his efforts, its natural defenses pushing back against his Void energy. But Pyris' determination was unshakable.

Slowly, one by one, the Void pockets began to stabilize, anchored firmly in the labyrinth's layers.

The Void was a tricky element. Unlike fire or lightning, which could be brute-forced, the Void demanded finesse. Pyris manipulated the energy like a master artisan, weaving the pockets into existence with an elegant precision.

As the final pocket took shape, he exhaled deeply, lowering his hands. Around him floated faintly glowing spheres of Void energy, nestled inconspicuously in the labyrinth's environment.

Why? Why was Pyris doing this?

Phantoms.

The thought of the mysterious beings spurred Pyris on, his mind drifting to the conversation he'd had with Mira and his mother, Emberly, before entering the labyrinth.

When researching the labyrinth, Pyris had quickly realized how little information existed about it. The deeper and inner layers of the labyrinth were shrouded in near-complete mystery. Why? Pyris had asked his mother. Why hadn't the powerful Phantoms, who had explored countless realms and who could conquer countless foes, ventured into the labyrinth?

Why hadn't she ordered them to map and plunder its depths?

It was Mira who answered, her tone laced with frustration and regret. "For years, we've tried. But the labyrinth doesn't allow Phantoms to enter—not directly."

Pyris frowned at her explanation, confusion flickering across his face.

"Why not? They're Phantoms. They can traverse dimensions, bend the rules of reality itself."

Mira had sighed. "That's true. But the labyrinth… It's not like other places. Its laws are unique, ancient. They reject the presence of Phantoms outright. It's as if the labyrinth is alive, and it knows."

"But…" Pyris pressed on, his brow furrowed in thought. "There has to be a way. If they can't enter directly, can't we create a means for them to bypass the labyrinth's rules?"

It was Emberly who spoke then, her voice laced with revelation. "There is a way. If a gateway is created inside the labyrinth—no matter how small—the Phantoms could enter through it. But…"

Her voice trailed off, her expression darkening. Pyris caught the unspoken words.

"…but it needs to be a Void gateway," he finished for her.

Mira nodded. "Exactly. Only a Void gateway can connect the labyrinth to the Phantoms' realm. And here's the problem: Void gateways are directly tied to the mana signature of their creator. Phantoms can create Void gateways, but since they can't enter the labyrinth themselves, they can't create one inside nor can a void less awakened carry the void pockets around. It's impossible. And any Void pockets created outside and brought in…"

"…would carry Phantom mana signatures, and the labyrinth would reject them," Pyris concluded, realization dawning on him.

Emberly nodded. "I tried. Over the years, I had Phantoms create countless Void pockets. We smuggled them into the labyrinth through every means imaginable. But none of them worked. The labyrinth rejected every single one."

Pyris had smirked then, a confident gleam in his eyes. "Worry not, Mother. Your handsome son will get it done."

Now standing in the quiet corner of the labyrinth, Pyris looked at the glowing Void pockets around him. These weren't ordinary gateways. They bore his unique mana signature, created from within the labyrinth itself.

"Mother's plans failed because she couldn't use the Void element herself," Pyris muttered. "But I can. And these pockets… they'll work."

He flexed his fingers, his body humming with satisfaction. Each pocket would act as a tiny gateway, allowing the Phantoms to bypass the labyrinth's restrictions. With these in place, the labyrinth's inner and deeper layers would would be for Phantoms to explore, for labyrinth to be plundered.

Pyris grinned, his expression filled with mischief and pride. "Mother, Mira… your plundering plans are about to get a whole lot easier."

He tapped the final Void pocket, watching it shimmer faintly before blending seamlessly into the environment. The labyrinth itself seemed to quiver in subtle protest, but it could do nothing to stop him now.

"Done," Pyris said with a final exhale. He turned on his heel, heading back to the group.

His task was complete, and he was eager to see the look on his mother's face when she realized he had accomplished what even she could not.

The labyrinth had resisted for centuries, but now, its secrets would finally be laid bare.

Pyris and his mother, with the help of Mira and the eager Phantoms will unravel all the secrets in the Abyssal Labyrinth.

For all the years, the labyrinth's refusal to let them in, had become a slump in their throats, so the Phantoms getting the opportunity to enter inside will turn it inside down.
