Awakening Of The Forgotten World

Chapter 21: The Road to the Unknown

The dirt road stretched before Dain, winding through dense woodlands and rolling hills. The village of Eldrin's Hollow was now a distant memory, a speck on the horizon behind him.

For the first time in his life, he was alone.

No village walls.

No militia.

No safety net.

Just him, Silverlight, and the open road.

A system notification appeared.

[Quest Progress: The Path of the Explorer - 5%]

• Objective: Locate an unexplored dungeon.

• Reward: ???

Dain exhaled.

This was it.

His real journey was about to begin.

As night fell, Dain found himself moving deeper into the wilderness.

The road had grown narrower, the trees towering overhead, their gnarled branches blocking out the moonlight.

His Dungeon Sense (Lv.1) hummed faintly in the back of his mind—not detecting danger, but aware.

He wasn't alone.

He had sensed it for hours.

The feeling of being watched.

A notification appeared.

[Unknown Entity Observing You]

• Threat Level: ???

Dain stopped walking.

His hand rested on Silverlight's hilt.

The woods were too quiet.

Not even the rustle of small animals.

That was when he heard it—

A low growl.

From above.

Dain's instincts screamed.

He rolled forward just as something lunged from the trees.

The creature landed where he had just stood, its claws digging into the dirt.

Dain spun, raising Silverlight.

A notification flashed.

[Enemy Identified: Shadowfang Wolf (Lv.11)]

• Health: 170/170

• Threat Level: Moderate

A wolf. But not a normal one.

Its fur was pitch-black, its eyes glowing amber, and its body shimmered with a faint mist, making it almost blend into the darkness.

A stealth predator.

Dain's mind raced.

It had tried to ambush him.

That meant one thing—

It wasn't alone.

Another notification appeared.

[Additional Enemies Detected: Shadowfang Pack]

• Estimated Numbers: 4-6

Dain's grip tightened.

This wasn't just a random encounter.

They were hunting him.

And now—the hunt had begun.

The first wolf lunged.

Dain sidestepped, slashing Silverlight in a wide arc.

The blade glowed faintly, cutting through the wolf's side.

[Hit Registered! 42 Damage Dealt]

The creature yelped, staggering back.

But the others moved in.

Dain barely had time to react before a second wolf leapt at him from behind.

He turned just in time, raising his sword—but the impact sent him skidding backward.

[Health: 85/120]

Too many. Too fast.

They weren't attacking wildly.

They were coordinated.

Dain gritted his teeth.

He had to think.

If he stayed defensive, they'd wear him down.

He had to strike first.

A third wolf lunged from the side.

Dain didn't dodge.

Instead—he stepped into the attack.

He let the wolf come to him.

Then—he struck.

Silverlight pierced through its skull.

The wolf collapsed instantly.

[Enemy Defeated: Shadowfang Wolf]

+150 Experience Gained

But he didn't stop.

Dain twisted around, slashing at the second wolf.

The blade tore through its chest, leaving a deep wound.

The wolf snarled, stumbling backward.

[Hit Registered! 57 Damage Dealt]

But the last wolf was still moving.

And this one—was bigger.

A final notification flashed.

[Alpha Detected: Shadowfang Pack Leader (Lv.13)]

• Health: 250/250

• Threat Level: High

Dain's heart pounded.

This was the real fight.

The Alpha vs. Silverlight

The Shadowfang Alpha was larger than the others, its black fur bristling, its amber eyes burning with intelligence.

It watched Dain. Studied him.

Then, it howled.

The remaining wolves rallied, circling Dain once more.

A notification appeared.

[New Combat Phase: Pack Coordination Activated]

• Enemies now fight as a unit.

Dain exhaled slowly.

He had to end this quickly.

The Alpha charged first.

Its speed was incredible.

Dain barely had time to react before it was on him.

Claws swiped.

Dain dodged left—

Only to have a second wolf lunge from the right.

A feint!

Dain twisted his body, using Silverlight to deflect the attack.

But the Alpha was already striking again.

Its teeth clamped around Dain's left arm.

Pain flared.

[Health: 50/120]

Damn it.

Dain had no choice.

He activated his skill.

[Skill Activated: Executioner's Strike (Lv.1)]

• Delivers a high-damage finishing blow to a weakened enemy.

Dain ignored the pain.

He gripped Silverlight with his free hand.

Then, he drove the blade straight through the Alpha's throat.

The wolf gurgled, its body jerking violently.

Then—it collapsed.

[Enemy Defeated: Shadowfang Alpha]

+250 Experience Gained

The remaining wolves hesitated.

Then—they ran.

Dain stood there, panting.

Blood dripped from his arm.

But he had won.

A final notification appeared.

[Quest Updated: The Path of the Explorer - 15%]

• Objective: Locate an unexplored dungeon.

• Additional Objective Complete: Defeated the Shadowfang Pack.

Dain exhaled.

But then—another message flashed.

[Dungeon Detected: Ruins of Black Hollow - 1 Mile Ahead]

Dain froze.

He had been heading in the right direction all along.

And now—he had found his next destination.

He tightened his grip on Silverlight.

The journey had just begun.

And now—the real adventure awaited.
