Chapter 20: Leaving Eldrin’s Hollow
Dain stood at the edge of the village, staring at the winding dirt road that stretched beyond the hills.
For years, this had been home.
Now, it was a place he had to leave behind.
The sky was painted in hues of orange and purple as the sun set over Eldrin's Hollow. Behind him, the villagers watched in silence, some with hope, others with uncertainty.
They had seen the battle.
They had seen what he could do.
And now, they were seeing him go.
A system notification appeared.
[Quest Progress: The Path of the Explorer - 0%]
• Objective: Leave Eldrin's Hollow and find new dungeons.
• Reward: ???
Dain exhaled, gripping Silverlight tightly at his side.
It was time.
Edric was the first to step forward.
"You sure about this?" the older warrior asked. "Once you leave, there's no telling what you'll run into."
Dain nodded. "That's the point."
Torren, the blacksmith, let out a gruff sigh. "Damn fool's heading off alone. Just like the warriors of old."
Dain smirked. "I'll take that as a compliment."
Torren grumbled but handed him a small satchel.
"Rations. A whetstone. And a bit of coin," he said. "Not much, but it's all we can spare."
Dain accepted it gratefully. "Thank you."
The blacksmith snorted. "Don't die."
Then Maelin approached. The healer's face was carefully neutral, but her eyes betrayed her worry.
"You don't have to do this alone," she said.
Dain's smile was faint. "I do."
Maelin sighed. "Then at least take this."
She pressed a small vial into his palm. The liquid inside glowed faintly.
[Item Acquired: Lesser Healing Potion]
• Restores 30 HP upon use.
• Can only be used outside of combat.
Dain raised an eyebrow. "Didn't know you could make potions."
Maelin smirked. "You never asked."
Dain chuckled, tucking the vial into his pouch.
Finally, he turned to Rowan.
The young man had recovered from his near-death experience, but his expression was serious.
"You saved my life," Rowan said. "I won't forget that."
Dain shook his head. "Just keep the village safe while I'm gone."
Rowan nodded firmly.
Then—it was time.
Dain turned toward the road, took a deep breath—
And stepped forward.
The road was quiet.
Dain walked for several miles, the weight of the moment slowly settling in.
For the first time, he was truly alone.
No village.
No militia.
Just him and the system.
A notification appeared.
[New Objective: Locate an unexplored dungeon.]
Dain nodded to himself.
That's the plan.
The system had given him a class, a path, a purpose.
And now, it was time to see just how far he could go.
The wind whispered through the trees, the night growing darker.
And ahead of him—
A new adventure awaited.
