Chapter 7:
Chapter 7: He Had Neglected Her This Much
Seeing everyone’s silence, Su Yu could hardly believe it.
“You… none of you know where Bai Ying usually likes to go?”
They shook their heads.
“Senior Brother, you don’t know either, do you?”
Su Yu’s brows furrowed tightly. He felt a chill creep into his heart. No matter how hard he tried to think, he couldn’t figure out where Bai Ying might have gone. It dawned on him—he hadn’t paid attention to her in a very long time.
Sometimes, when Bai Ying came to find them, he’d even find her annoying. In the end, he started pretending not to be around—closing his door and refusing to see anyone.
Now, when he actually needed to find her, he couldn’t think of anywhere she might be, except her old residence.
“I’ll check her place first. You all go look elsewhere. No matter what, find Bai Ying.”
With that, Su Yu hurriedly flew off toward her residence.
From a distance, he spotted a figure standing outside the courtyard. His tense heart finally relaxed.
Looks like Junior Sister Bai Ying had come back.
Thank goodness.
Su Yu walked toward the figure, but as the figure drew closer, he realized it wasn’t Bai Ying—it was Ruan Xinrou.
“Junior Sister? What are you doing here?”
Su Yu stepped into the house, glancing around, trying to spot Bai Ying. But then he heard Ruan Xinrou say,
“Why wouldn’t I be here? This is my residence.”
Su Yu froze.
Wasn’t this Bai Ying’s place?
How could it be Ruan Xinrou’s?
His fingers clenched tightly. Then he remembered—some time ago, Ruan Xinrou had complained that the spiritual energy in her courtyard was too weak. So he had found her a new place.
Back then, he’d noticed Bai Ying’s place had the richest spiritual energy, so he asked her to move out and let Ruan Xinrou have it.
Su Yu stood there, completely stunned.
How… how could he have done that? And even worse—how could he have forgotten?
“Then where is Bai Ying living now? Is she in that smaller courtyard next door?”
He started walking in that direction, but Ruan Xinrou looked embarrassed.
“That courtyard? Senior Brother, you gave that to me too, remember?”
Su Yu paused.
Now that she mentioned it, he did remember—when Bai Ying tried to move into the small courtyard next door, he had rejected her. Because Ruan Xinrou liked flowers, he had given that place to her as well, for planting.
“Then where is Bai Ying staying now? Your old place?”
Ruan Xinrou shook her head.
“Sixth Senior Brother took that place to use as a storage room.”
Su Yu was stunned.
“Then where’s Bai Ying?”
“I… I don’t know.”
Ruan Xinrou frowned. She had thought Su Yu had come looking for her. Why was he looking for Bai Ying?
Trying to distract him, she leaned closer, using her powers to influence his emotions.
Inside her spiritual sense, she commanded the system:
“Make Senior Brother forget about Bai Ying.”
Then she pulled out a small embroidered pouch from her sleeve and smiled at him.
“Senior Brother, I made this the other day. Isn’t it pretty—”
Before she could finish, Su Yu scolded her sharply:
“Don’t be ridiculous. Fifth Junior Sister is missing—how could I possibly care about some pouch right now?”
With that, Su Yu turned and left. Ruan Xinrou was stunned.
Did the system malfunction? Why was Su Yu still thinking about Bai Ying?
Su Yu didn’t even look back. He clenched his fist tightly and pulled out his communication talisman, contacting every other junior brother as he walked.
One by one, he asked them—none of them knew anything.
How could this be?
Su Yu felt it was all utterly absurd.
He didn’t have Bai Ying’s communication talisman.
He didn’t know where she liked to go.
Now he didn’t even know where she lived.
What kind of Senior Brother was he?
He went around the entire sect asking for her residence, but no one could tell him.
Finally, an old servant in the sect told him—Bai Ying now lived at the back mountain.
Su Yu immediately flew there.
The back mountain was barren of spiritual energy, shrouded in thick trees and perpetual gloom, rarely seeing sunlight.
Normally, no one would come here unless absolutely necessary.
After walking just a few steps, Su Yu saw a run-down little shack. It looked newly built, but it was clearly crude.
Su Yu’s breathing became uneven. He couldn’t believe this was where Bai Ying was living.
He hoped he was wrong.
“Maybe someone built this for fun…”
With a sliver of hope, he opened the door—then froze.
Inside, there was only a furnace used for artifact refining—a furnace Bai Ying often used.
Other than that, just a simple table and a mat spread on the floor for sleeping.
This was… really her home?
Compared to Ruan Xinrou’s residence, which he had just visited—lush with spiritual energy, full of blooming flowers, elegant decorations, and furniture carefully chosen by everyone…
This place looked like a servant’s quarters.
No—worse than that. Even servants lived better than this.
Su Yu stared at the scene before him, and his chest tightened painfully.
His Fifth Junior Sister had been living in such a place, and he hadn’t known.
He had neglected her to this extent…
No wonder she had chosen to cultivate the Emotionless Path!
Su Yu’s face was filled with anguish.
Just then, he noticed a small box on the table. Inside were leftover materials from a past forging.
Su Yu recognized them instantly—it was the fang of that Ghost Shark.
These were the leftover materials from the artifact Bai Ying had been crafting for him.
With trembling hands, Su Yu picked up the pieces.
Next to them was a small notebook.
Flipping through it, he saw scribbles and notes—every line was about how to forge that artifact.
Bai Ying had wanted to create the best artifact possible for Su Yu, so she had been keeping detailed records from the very start of the process.
At the front of the notebook, he saw a line written in her childish, hopeful handwriting:“I must make the best artifact ever! That way, Senior Brother won’t be sad anymore! Keep going! Keep going! Keep going!”
Su Yu’s lips trembled. He could almost picture the little girl working day and night, pouring her heart into her work.
The notebook was filled with testing notes—material ratios, quenching times.
She had done so many experiments.
And then, right as she was close to finalizing the artifact, she wrote:
“I brought the nearly finished artifact to show Senior Brother. I thought he’d be happy…
But why didn’t he want to see me?
I really wanted to show him—it’s an amazing artifact. It was made just for him…”
Su Yu remembered that day.
Bai Ying had come to see him. He’d found her annoying and told someone to turn her away.
So… she had come that day with the artifact, just to show it to him.
Su Yu desperately wanted to try that personalized artifact.
But…
He knew he never would.
Because Bai Ying had destroyed it with her own hands.
His heart suddenly ached as if it had been ripped apart.
Su Yu couldn’t believe… just what had he done?
